Jacques Kallis would have to be getting close to greatest all rounder of all time, the bloke is a rock.
This Kleinfeldt or whatever must be the most out of shape bowler since Merv Hughes, the guy has ****.

So I hope Australia finally looks at run ups and make fast bowlers step back 30 cms, bloody costing us in the last 12 months. I also would like a Royal Inquiry in why the heck umpires miss all these no balls, takes away from the spectacle imo.

Watching WIvBangladesh on http://cricmelive.com/.

Two of my favourite players at the crease the next BC Lara in Darren Bravo and Mr Cool Marlon Samuels at the crease.

Question:

If on review like the Patto to Alma delivery, its found that the bowler has overstepped the line and the player is called back....do they also add a run to the batting team and an extra delivery in the over?

No it isn't. I don't know what sort of cricket people have played on here, but hitting a ball in the air to a fielder has always been regarded as a bad shot, irrespective of how well you hit the ball.

I don't think there's no such thing as 'good' shot or 'bad' shot, if the ball hits the middle. Only reasonable or not reasonable.

If getting caught is playing a bad shot, 6 batsmen play bad shots in every single innings of every single game then, so I don't see the angst if Quiney has suddenly also joined their ranks

As I said, it's philosophical, so, hypothetically speaking, what if Quiney's shot went 5 meters wide of the fielder, and went for 6. Does it then become a good shot, or is it still a bad shot that he shouldn't have played?

Unless one says "Gee, that's a bad shot" as soon as it leaves the bat, one can't suddenly decide it was a bad shot 2 seconds later, when it gets caught. That seems an anomaly to me. Calling it a bad shot only after looking at whether it went out or not is like the MRP decided an action is illegal only after seeing whether when someone was hurt or not.

People get caught trying to defend, people get caught trying to attack, it is part of the game

It was either a 'reasonable' shot to play, or not. My stance, obviously, it that it was reasonable in the circumstances. Others disagree.

The argument may been that Quiney should have been more circumspect, and that's a fairer debate. As I said, if we were 8 wickets down, trying to save a draw, and he did that shot, I would be the first to call his actions unreasonable and illogical

And I've played cricket for three clubs. I don't recall any of my coaches or captains telling me "Bad shot, you shouldn't have done it" when I got caught playing a shot that was there, only when I flashed at a wide one, or tried to hit across the line of a ball that was on the stumps. If you middle one, and it happens to go to a fielder, the main comment is "stiff" If you continually do it, of course, it's a technical issue, but other than that, getting caught playing shots is part of the game.

If the shot is there, you do it. Occasionally, it won't come off. But you have to play the shot the ball demands, unless you're fighting to save a match, which we weren't.

Well well well what would that extra day have done to the dynamics of this match?

Batting
SA
Their top order is sensational, and relatively solid, but can be unhinged by good bowling.
Petersen isn't a average of 50+ player.
Smith is susceptible to the ball going across him and the LBW. I expect our bowlers will target areas that will get him caught in slips and gully with the occasional inswinger.
Kallis doesn't love the short bowling that much, but bowl short too often and he gets used to it.
Amla is pretty impenetrable, but every batsman has a weakness, perhaps bowling to his strengths and placing fielders in that area will force him out of his shell.
De Villiers has come on leaps and bounds since dropping down the order.
Rudolph is the weakness in the top order, replace him with Prince and it's weak link for weak link.

AUS
Warner is flaky. 18 innings, 4 innings over 40... Don't see him as a long term test prospect, and whilst he;s there, our batting line-up is exposed.
Cowan, great knock. Showed he has more shots in his catalogue than previously thought. I had massive question marks over him prior to this test. Now I think he could be a viable option, but my enthusiasm is tempered until he repeats the result.
Quiney first class records over the last 2 seasons suggest he may bloom late and have an opportunity to contribute to the Test side. Would still prefer to see Khawaja in there, but Bob looked okay out there and appears to have an instant bond with the team.
Ponting 1 summer too many? Apart from his Indian series last year, there are massive gaps in his performances. Same glaring weakness of searching for the ball early in his innings.
Clarke. Nothing to add here, skipper is in the zone! Didn't have a great tour of WI but back on home soil and he's the rock again.
Hussey I also have massive doubts over Huss to continue in the team. His average is dropping away slowly and has scored just under 700 runs since the last time we played SA, at an average of 36.
Wade. Has been good. Albeit we only saw him briefly with the bat, he has shown he is good enough with the gloves for the time being, and his batting is solid enough for this level. Whether he remains to be the test gloveman long term is really up to his performances. Let a few bye's go this test, but needs to be more realistic with the DRS reviews.

I think it would, it'd be recorded as the umpires' (between all 13 of them) final decision - a no ball.

Don't think there's any change we should make in the top 7. Very very very worried that Haddin hit a ton yestie, with only two dropped catches, against Vic's 2nd stringers. Very very very worried. If he drops about 8 catches he'll be into the test team like a shot.

Hussey & Ponting are series by series. But let's be realistic. Hussey tonned up this test, Ponting last test & the one before that. They are still producing.

Plenty of time for Khawaja et al to push through, they just need to consistently put together innings.

I see what you are saying about them still contributing, however their respective averages during that time are not that exciting...

Hussey Since the start of the last SA tour (avg 36.57)

1, 0, 20, 39, 15, 8, 0, 0, 89, 150*, 14, 25, 15, 48, 32, 73, 24, 10, 32, 100

Punter Since the start of the last SA tour (avg 45.21)

8, 0, 0, 62, 78, 5, 16, 62, 60, 134, 7, 221, 60*, 4, 14, 7, 41, 23, 57, 0

I always take out their best and worst score.

Mr C @ 30.28

Punter @ 37.53

Whats Warner avg over the same period using my method Boons?

Is that a killer, though? Only Clarke averages more than 45. Cowan Watson & Warner high 30s, Quiney obviously not much so far. Hughes 34, Khawaja 30.

I would be very hesitant to make the call on either, to keep a Quiney or Cowan etc (who are 30 themselves) in the side.

Overall a pretty good test. Australia probably 'won' all bar the first day, fought it out really well. Clarke continues a long line of Australian captains... underbowled (a la Waugh & Border before him). Should've brought himself on on the last day, can bowl.

Warner (avg 39.6) Debuted vs NZ after the SA Series, 31.6 using your theory of best and worst removed

3, 12*, 15, 123*, 37, 5, 8, 180, 8, 28, 42, 22, 29, 17, 50, 11, 4

The thing is there really 'aint anyone else waiting in the wings.

There's been one player who's averaging around 50 in first class cricket who should be getting an opportunity, but there's prejudicial reasons why he will never get a crack

So what changes do we see for Adelaide? Showed we really missed Watson's bowling. One guy that can swing it consistantly.

Not sold on Lyon but they will persist with him. Milf is on notice.

So Watson for Quiney if passed fit

If Stark performs against the Vic's, I'd expect he'd take Hilf's place. Aside from that, no change.

Just on mrC, his last 12 innings have been pretty consistent. Would have to string a few single figures together and have someone banging the door down not to see out the series.

England up against it on a turner in Ahmedabad. If the Indians could actually field it would be over by now.

And Watson is ruled out of Adelaide. what would be truly news is him being named in a home test.

You'd think he'd need a first class game under his belt to at least prove his fitness, if not form?

Give him a T20 game in Dhaka or some such place.
