I remember Feb 1969, and Bill Lawry made a double century at the G. It was bloody hot, and I got married that day. Bill's 200 nearly lasted as long as my marriage.:)

Curse Sutherland and Foxtel for putting cricket behind a paywall.

Ah. the predictable Mitch Marsh selection (aka the perennial search for an all-rounder)... you replace a guy in Handscombe who can't bat, with a guy in Marsh, who can't bat and bowl.

Problem is there are too many can'ts in Australian cricket. Bring back Scott Miller.

Wrong thread, though.;)

Fixed! I guess I was watching it though.

That’s the annoying part , everyone knew what would happen.
I liked how they picked on form for the first few tests yet have backflipped on that already .

It’s like Freddy Flintoff is still in the heads at CA and we have to find/play that elusive all rounder that can bat 6 , bowl 140kph and win games.

It seems pretty simple to me: our batting is so very weak before having a half-baked all-rounder at number 6....

India look like they will get 5-600 but it will take them the best part of 3 days. Aussies not capable of scoring that much.
Honestly, this is boring as batshit. I have reduced my interest to checking in every hour or two.

It sure is dull. The wicket is just so, so flat and slow. And India are trying to grind Australia out of the test and (practically) out of the series too. After last year's snooze-fest at the 'G you'd think they would have actually got a bit more life into the pitch.... but no. I have this kind of bad feeling that it will be a road for much of the match then it will deterioriate preternaturally fast.

Harris has now been hit on the helmet by bouncers in consecutive tests. He'll have to sort that out.

Both openers out. Flaws in technique once again. We could be all out for under 200.

Handscom goes nuts getting 70 in BB. Then come the calls that he is showing what the selectors are missing out on. Since when did slogging 70 equate to Test Match capability. Pretty much all BB batsmen are capable of slogging a quick 50 but very few worthy of Test selection. Since when does it mean 'a rich vein of form' or anything remotely translatable to Test cricket.
Herein is the essence of why we are failing at top level. All the potentially good young players are getting drafted in to BB and learning to slog over technique.
Some concern for the future of guys like Sangha.

Sangha and Petrovski are the future for mine. I would still like them to have more Shield innings (and runs) under their belt before they are selected for test cricket though. In saying that, though, not sure there is much merit in giving flawed batsmen in their mid twentieswho average mid thirties test caps though.... Guys like Finch, Handscombe, Harris etc are not test batsmen in my opinion.

Agreed. Sangha and Pucovski are the two to nurture into the next generation test stars. The ranga Pope might develop if he continues learning his craft. The other ranga Edwards might also develop, but here is one that BB is not being kind to.

Yep, my bad on Will.

Pope is so young. Needs time and will get belted by good batsmen for a few years.

I quite like the look of Edwards. I watched him a bit at under age cricket and he's always been able to dominate due to his size and physicality. His technique is relatively straight forward and effective for mine. But like with all of the kids, time will tell, especially in long-form cricket.

Very good pressure bowling from India with good set fields and plans and some very ordinary batting from the Aussie’s and that’s being kind .

They’ve watched two of the best put on a clinic on how to bat on this deck yet it looks like we didn’t take notice

Agree most of our batting lineup aren’t test standard

Question is how long do we persist with the current crop before we risk throwing the talented youngsters in ?

Sangha not only looks a huge talent but also looks a smart player and thinker
Exactly what we will need

If India had enforced the follow on, I still think the match would have been over by lunch tomorrow. Must be the heat is getting a bit too much and the bowlers need a rest. They certainly don't need a bigger lead.

Sangha can play with a straight bat off the back foot, which is disturbingly rare these days. Has a lovely technique and has had to think and learn his own way from a young age. I really rate him.

The really sad thing about test cricket is thinking back on guys like Stuart Law, Martin Love, Greg Blewett, Brad Hodge and even Jamie Siddons, who never really played the amount of test cricket they deserved. Nowadays, we are giving away test spots to guys who can barely play at Shield level.
