yea this is on our batsmen. We just needed one of our 4 "starts" to go on and we make 250-300 and it's at least a contest. Also fielding has been fairly poor too
Sharma won them the game , got in and tonned up .
We had two starts but neither Labs/Smith could turn it into a big one.

Unless we do itll be more the same the remaining 3 tests

Geez, the Indians really have the Aussies spooked. Team selection is really strange. Three specialist spinners plus Marnus and Smith who are reasonably competent. One fast bowler. And then along comes Shami with 4 wickets.

Who are our f&*king selectors?

The first test did the trick , we hit the panic button and went away from the plan .
We then hit the 2nd test with more changes and an unsettled lineup .

Recipe for disaster in India . You need to have a clear decisive plan and see it through .
Ours lasted until we saw the first deck .

I honestly thought this Australian team was too good to lose a series 4 zip, but it's looking like all but certain it'll happen here.
Really? I have the complete opposite view. I don't think this team is anywhere near as good as we have sent for many, many years. The fact that Renshaw and Hanscomb are even in India is a testament to the lack of depth. That, couple with a few injuries here and there, has left us exposed and we will continue to struggle. We have 4 quality batsmen in the side - Usman, Smith, Marnus and Head. We need all of them to produce in the same match to have a chance of winning. But if the pitch is good enough for them to succeed, we won't have the bowling firepower to win.

4 best batsman there
Ussie - average against spin at best
Smith - big rep against spin but it gets him out often
Marnus - looks the safest against spin currently but cant convert starts
Head - poor against spin

Renshaw isnt everyones cup of tea but we have torched him .
Gets flown over on a red eye after sandpaper gate , gets a few tests then dropped.
Gets taken on this tour and batted mid order , drop after 1 test then catapulted back in as a sub.

We havent been prepared to do the yards with our young bats and we are/will pay a price

I agree.

TBH, I fear Test cricket is dying. Players are more into the big money that comes with T20. I don't bother watching BBL at all. The T20 urgency for scoring denies players the opportunity to develop skills required at test level. How many batsmen got out playing a cross-bat shot in the second test?

You would think that bowlers would learn to be tighter and more dangerous, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

There is a reason Indians hardly seep over there , yet we decided to use it as a gameplan . Baffling .

While India are strong which most likely continues Test cricket will survive .

The greater issue here is batting development and a lack of good basic fundemental coaching due to T20 cricket .
I was asked by a mate to help give his rep side a few batting sessions .
I was staggered at that lack of basic technique most kids had .
Was all bottom hand , working ball off the stumps , ramps etc all done not overly well .
No leaving balls , working into a session and the like .
Its just an issue across the board but starting at the grass roots

I mean a month ago the Australian team was a top 5 averaging 45 + in test cricket, Cam green as an all rounder and 4 bowlers that have 1100 test wickets between them.

We have been exposed ( no suprise to me ) as a good Test team who are flat trackers at home .
Most teams are now too .

Lets see how we fare against England there . They are choc full of confidence while we may be pretty flat with no real settled lineup .
Last campaign we retained the Ashes but it needed Steve Smith being Bradman to draw the series .

FFS all the talk of the crap (non) review which it was, what about the incompetence of the umpire not giving it out?
2 incorrect decisions by a test ump in one over isnt great going
Everyone makes errors but that was poor

29 minutes those six took...yikes!
But hey, at least we go into the second innings with a lead.
Lyon and Khunemann are bowling a beautiful line. And they are being rewarded.

And trying to watch the test and the trial game is doing my head in.
