Missed chance against top 4 = 50 runs
Missed chance against middle order = 30 runs
Missed chance against lower order = 15 runs

Is Wade in positive or negative territory this summer.

With our top order we need a guy that can bat as glove man. I've seen Wade in the past run out guys from good distances by taking one glove off, I think he's putting a massive amount of pressure on himself and is now brain farting!

Any dropped or fluffed chance is a negative. He's fluffed four off Lyon alone. I wonder what that's doing to Lyon's confidence?

His glovework has been sub par, but, it's not like the selectors have picked him on his wicketkeeping alone. Or gone in with their eyes shut. The knocks on his keeping have been all through his career. But, he's a very good batsman and could become the complete package if his keeping improves. Time will tell.

Gilchrist ended his career as a good keeper. And quite possibly as one of Australia's finest all-time cricketers, so I'm sure that technique and confidence improves as you play at the top level.

Is Paine just another pigeon-holed player (i.e. unlike Tait, he is earmarked for cricket in all forms)? His stats have never been that impressive. Does he have a better record keeping to spin? I am not sure what the obsession is with him.

I'm only going off what I've been told by a few people, including a former state captain. Paine is very highly rated by the selectors - was in the Hilditch era, is still today. He's had terrible luck with injury, which has made it very hard for him. Yes, he's a better keeper than Wade; better against the spinners too. His batting is very good. And he is apparently a very fine leader too. As posted yesterday, I was told that if he had been fit he would have replaced Haddin much sooner. He's on the comeback trail now, but I think he'd have to string together some extraordinary performances over a decent period of time, and Wade would have to really flounder to tip him out. Don't get me wrong, Wade is well and truly ensconced in the test side, and could become a very fine player if he sorts his keeping out.

Amazing this DRS. Jayawardene was claiming a catch off the glove ... and gets an LBW :)

Yes you make a good point. He WENT to the central umpire and made a point that they were appealing the bat pad catch.

Smart idea delaying the tea break. In all honesty, the Lankens don't deserve another free feed given what they've "dished up" this series

Its taken for the final day of the Tests for some Spud Gold!

They broke the mould with Hussey, he's been great. In many respects, he's going to be harder to replace than Ponting, McGrath, Gilchrist or even Warne. We may never again see the likes of the unique qualities Michael Hussey brings to the team. A good old fashioned player who just gets the job done.

Its only fitting that @Messenger's batting alrounder hits the winning runs. The selectors were justified in their decision now...

Faux all rounder. ABC were talking about Hussey "protecting" All Rounder Mitch from Herath. At number 7. Jesus Wept.

haha he is a flat track bully. Ok when he is free to tee off on a pitch with true bounce. But not good enough to be an all rounder. Good number 8.

He's a baseballer. Good eye and can smack it over midwicket. Probably make a decent pitcher too.

Can't wait for Pattinson to come back. He's a much better bat. Decent technique and a better range of shots.

Langers, did you catch Cowan batting to the spinners today?

Samuels didn't cover himself in glory, but if any other player than Warne carried on to an umpire about a wide call like that they'd be in trouble. Still a prick.

No I didn't. heart in the mouth stuff?

Clarke and Hussey are the only really good players of spin in the side. How did Hughes handle them?

Cowan looked very ordinary. His feet were that far apart he looked like he was straddling a log. Bat waving high in the air.

Didn't look like he could move late or make any decisive decisions with his footwork.

Either went the huge forward lunge - and you know with Cowan he just tend to plonk the foot not very precisely - or the bludgeon cut shot.

He looked like he'd worked out an all-encompassing method to play spin. Very ordinary. The Indian spinners could take him apart.

As for Hughes, I didn't see much of him bat to the spinners. But again, constant cutting with the variable bounce in India, might be something he has to watch.

He fluffed a few sweep shots too (from what I saw). But in saying that, he played a magnificient sweep in the first innings, just when O'Keefe was saying he needed a sweep shot so as not to be tied down by the spinners.

Overall, I like the modifications Hughes has made to his game. And, most importantly, he seems to be calm and in a good head space.

With the obvious exception of Clark and the now retired Hussey, Warner and Hughes have developed this summer.

Yeah Hughes looks like he feels like he belongs. Always likely when they picked him IN FORM this time. I have big concerns about our ability to hold out spinners. Cowan looked bad. Not sure on Warner. Watson never thrills me against spin. Hughes was ok but I'd like to see him use his feet more. Was sweating on the cut shot a lot as his best scoring shot.

Anyone know how Maxwell, Kawahja, Ferguson etc. go against spin?

Yes, the last time they picked Hughes was an astonishingly bad selection move. Especially after the Ashes tour and the 'rumoured' back-room issues.

I'm not sure about Warner facing spinners, but on the face of things he has two things going is his favour: the potential to scatter the field and throw a spinner off their game with a flurry of devastating shot-making; and secondly, he's quite nimble, decisive and, dare I say, correct, with how he bats.

I think the spinners in India will give us a real working over.
