Deano, time to give it up. You're painful at the bet of time, but this article is kind of out there.

"I AM going to make a big statement here. This South African team, which plays Australia next week in the first Test at the Gabba, has the greatest top six batting line-up this country has seen.
I am showing no disrespect here to the great West Indian team of the 1980s. West Indian fans might reject my call, but even their great averages and runs scored do not come close to this South African team."

The best top six this country has ever seen... the best top six... Kallis a better player than Sobers... the lad is drinking Polish wedding toast vodka by the stein.

I thought Cowan missed a CA contract but that still makes him available for Test selection ?

I'd be very surprised if Cowan is in the test side by the end of the summer. Unless, of course, he really takes it up a notch. He's playing a short-term role/warming a seat, in my opinion.

Now Watson pings a calf. WTF is going on seriously. No other team in the world has players injured as much as we do.

Can't be the shoes since players from every nation where the same ones.

Any ideas? (cue Simon_Nesbit)

Crickets shitting me to tears any sport where they'd risk the injuries of a player in games like 20/20 and not to save them for a test can go get ****ed.
Cummins and Watson two that come to mind.

I've been away since Thursday & we break through for our first win in 20 games!

Sayers & Richardson - SA players flying the flag for SA!

Good to see Travis Head make double figures - a very handy 75.

Bob Quiney on standby for the perennially injured Watson
He's been one of the few batsmen in form this season. He deserves to be there.

Just to add to the Cummings debarcle...

After scans revealed the extent of his injury, Cummins wondered whether he had fallen into bad habits with his action while playing so much short-form cricket, instead of bowling in the same manner he would when trying to swing a red ball. Lee had a number of injury troubles early in his career and he said he would be happy to pass on some advice to Cummins regarding the best way to bowl at express pace without damaging the back.

Don't fcuking play it then!

I do hope we have some of these clowns on performance based contracts.

Australia's team performance manager Pat Howard has expressed his disappointment at the Sydney Sixers Twenty20 team not passing on information about Pat Cummins' condition before he was diagnosed with a back stress fracture.

Was the Sydney Sixers the same side that cracked it when CA pulled Watson early in the tournament?

The very same, Henry.

I'd struggle to find 3 people who give a pinch of shit about these 20/20 teams.

You really have to wonder about the programs CA have these guys on, or their ability to monitor and manage the programs. All this crap about investing in a new program and planning workloads. FFS, Watson pinged his calf in the first over and Cummins reportedly had soreness early in the tournament but didn't think it worth flagging. CA and their High Performance team should have been all over them. Looks like it's all been window dressing with the same dysfunctional organisation still running the show.

Rapt to see Quiney get a shot at the big time. Good player who has continued to improve his game over the past few years, learning and developing and being a key part to a strong Vics side. Hope he does well.
He's come a long way. I remember when he first made the State side thinking he looked a bit out of his depth. But you're right, has kept developing his game and improving. Great example of hard work paying off.

I think this, like Cowan, is on of those great stories that we need more of. He's not some junior prodigy who is massaged into the side like it's a right not a privilege, or he's entertained crowds in T20 and can switch hit so we'll shoe-horn him in. Here is a guy that struggled for a while, lost his spot a few times, fought back, and has made a very good top order bat of himself and now gets the ultimate reward. I thought he probalby should have been considered more for the OD squad, but to see him get a Baggy Green is great.

He was probably drunk.

Would have thought the Indian one a few years ago with Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman was fairly handy.

Maybe he is just pumping up the series.

Dean Jones will eventually take the mantle from Neil Harvey as the cantankerous bastard decrying the state of such and such and whatever. Rent a sensational quote.

He's a shocker. That article is just dumb.

Yep. I thought Jeff Thompson was going to have that spot sewed up but Jonesy is making a late run and, i think, has taken the lead. Though in saying that, Thommo is more likely to go on a vitriolic rant than Jones.

At least Thommo is vaguely eccentric. Jones is about as engaging as a Sulo Bin.

Dean Jones... the man who found more ways to get himself than Mark Waugh.

Saffers fav @ $2.10 for the series win. I reckon our batsman will crumble like a deck of cards when their bowlers apply the blowtorch.

I think their bowling lineup is better and their batting lineup (thanks Deano) is better as well. The old question of whether they can perform on our shores is not is the X Factor for mine.

Agree, it's going to take a couple of very special efforts from our bowlers to get us into winning positions. Honestly think we are going to struggle unless Ponting Clarke and Hussey have big series and our bowlers have a couple of really good innings.
