Making Starc 12th man is surprising for mine. We look completely out-gunned.

Yes, we gambled on the toss by naming Lyon and it backfired. I only watched 30 minutes at lunch and saw Peterson commit suicide, but apart from that I don't think I've seen two batsmen look so comfortable against what looked a very popgun attack. Having to bowl Lyon for 12 overs on day 1 is a luxury we can't afford.

I fear a genuine thrashing in this series, hope I'm wrong.

Naming the spinner was the correct move imo. That was a flat a Brisbane Day 1 pitch I have ever seen. Im suprised the Saffers named 4 quicks plus Kallis. I would have played the leggie for sure.

Oh, I'd cut my left arm off to have a half decent leggie. Yet the Saffers have one and don't play him.. Go figure...

Agree, we definately made the right call in playing Lyon. Will be very important, particularly in the second innings.

I probably would have played Starc over Hilfy, just to get some variation in the attack. No twatson hurts a little with our bowling

Maybe they are worried he'll get called for Chucking. Been under investigation apparently.

Shite day for us though. Siddsy bowled well but cost himself two wickets, half chances not taken, to predictable.

Disappointing, frustrating.......when does footy start again??

I only caught snippets of it today but two things I noticed.

1. Generally, the bowling didn't look as disciplined as last year.

2. Specifically, Hilfenhaus looked very round arm and dropped away on delivery, plus his pace looked down.

It will be a slaughter. Did any of our bowlers get any sustained pace going today?

Thought exactly the same. Very similar to that fourth day against England two years ago. Moments where we threatened, but mostly they looked to be very comfortable in the middle.

Patto had some heat going at times, but yeah, some pretty pedestrian bowling for the large part. A lot like the Ashes a couple of years back. They need to go back and look at some tapes from last year and replicate that.

Wicket looks quite placid, so we'll have to toil for our wickets, which is why we have to be disciplined

It did look placid. But Steyn and co will make it look like a green strip out of the 70s

And the respective ease with which Amla and Kallis faced the bowling was a tad too easy. Kallis just seemed to prop on the front foot; Amla on the back!

I saw a little bit of Peterson and thought how we bowled to him was awful. The guy has no offside game in front of point, so we basically fed the legside...

Going to be a long summer

But...we had a dossier!

Why are people on Channel 9 saying we haven't lost at the Gabba for 28 years? We lost there in 1984, 1985, 1986 & 1988.

Have the laws of subtraction changed during the past week?

Did you factor in Duckworth Lewis?

Saffies are really grinding the Aussies out of the game, Kallis and DeVilliers look capable of making anything. Our bowlers look pedestrian but you can bet Steyn makes it look like a minefield when he bowls ... much later today. Still has me stuffed why people feel playing a finger spinner on the Gabba is a good decision.

Id go one step further and bring in a rule in shield crucket where each side needs to play a leggie. Im not interested in finger spinners... they are a waste of time for mine.

Good idea Hank, will give me a break between deliveries. Any offies fancy a trundle at HenryJr?

Got me a new table radio, does DAB+, streaming, etc.

I say this because I have come to the realisation that my relationship with the channel 9 commentary team is dead. As Latin. Ian Healy is awful beyond words.

Now given where I live a digital radio signal is very hard to get, so I stream from the intertronz. How big a delay would I get?

Let's figure it out. Firstly, has the match started according to the radio? ;)

Yep. Get go hawks!!! to send down the nude offies Simon... They will get dispatched along with your offerings.

Slim skuif weerkaats Steyn, vale Siddle wanneer hy kry 'n kans om te kolf.

My disillusion with Australian cricket sent me Afrikaans.

I don't imagine there's all that much Afrikaans love poetry.

Hahaha how feeble.

I'll go even a further step, bring in rule banning left arm orthodox bowlers from 1st class cricket. They truly ARE a waste of time. THere was a time, only a few years ago when Warne was still playing Tests, that not one state team had a leggie in their team. That's why we are struggling now.

Quiney .. at least your green baggy cap won't get shabby.
