Didn't watch much of yesterday's play, but just enough to see Warner & Hughes show how NOT to run between wickets.

Hughes' footwork seemed much more assured as well.

Interesting discussion on 3LO last night about Watson. It went like this: his reputation far exceeds his output, especially for someone who is considered a top four player. He averages a tad under 37 with 2 centuries from 36 tests. In short, his record suggests he's not a top 4 player by any stretch of the imagination.

It's so true. His output really doesn't justify the price-tag, nor the reputatio. I think the fact that he is an allrounder and we have had a fascination with an allrounder ever since Andy Flintoff tore us a new one in the 2005 Ashes series. He has done well, but really, his figures dont justify the hype around him. He had 2 good years of cricket, honestly didnt cash in enough at that time, and has been living off it since

In my opinion he is very lucky that Australian cricket as it stands is devoid of any young batsman, or else Watson would be out of the side.

Can anyone see this ending up anything other than a draw?

$3.30 on offer according to Boonie which is good value if Hilf can't bowl.

Whats the story with Hilf since he missed half of the first innings? Can he bowl from the get go in the second or does he have to do his time at fine leg first?

So Clarke is injured. And Bad Haddin is in the frame to be picked as a batsman.

Idiocy

Looking ahead to the future aren't they!

.....Haven't seen much of this test, but on the snippets of the highlights I caught last night, the pitch is going to make the Aussies push for victory relatively straight forward, even a bowler down.

Haddin is being picked for his leadership apparently.

Mike Hussey says hi.

They should win today. Straight and full. Terry Alderman would love to bowl on this pitch.

So that means the skipper of my local district club is in the frame for selection because he's a terrific leader. That's just insulting.

Look as a anti-Haddin guy... Brad has been in form over the last few months at state level. He's 2nd or 3rd on the runs made charts, however I also see it as a step backwards. We need to blood the young cricketers to ensure we are well placed for the future.

Brad's penchant for hitting out in dire circumstances continues, and at state level he is able to pull it off, but if we're 4-50 at test level, the last person I'd trust to DIG us out is Brad Haddin.

Khawaja
Fergusson(meh)
Cosgrove ;)
Doolan
Quiney

The truth is our batting stocks at shield level are bare

You're being kind, djboonie. Haddin has the batting version of Tourette's.

This is the series to try things out.

The thought of Cosgrove almost brings a tear to my eye. Been a big fan of his talent for ages... he should have over 4,000 test runs at an average in the 40's to his name. What a waste!

And so Wade bowls...

A great performance by Siddle.

Gee Starc really stepped up too. I loved it when he started bowling over the wicket and using the natural angle too. When he hit the right length he looked an absolute handful. Kind of wonder why he doesn't bowl like this more often. Nice to finally chalk up a win.

I can understand your ambivalence toward Ferguson, but he's been in better form than anyone else on your list.

Our batting stocks are as bad, if not worse, than the period between 1977 & 1979 when we gave such stars as David Ogilvie, Paul Hibbert, Craig Sergeant & Jeff Moss a go & all our established players were with Packer. Even so, to pick Haddin is an enormous leap backwards.

Fergusson... my only slight on him is that he's been missing for about 5 years. Sometimes once swallow doesn't make a summer (although it did make my summer all those years ago.... ;))

Yeah. For a guy with his talent and technique he has never made enough runs, especially as he plays in Adelaide. His knee injury seemed to set him back a long way.

Khawaja is on standby for boxing day test. Bird also called into the squad. Apparently not the quickest bowler but tall and a wicket taking machine at test level. He should get a gig ahead of Johnson as we know what MJ offers . . .
Watched the wrap of the test last night on Fox Sports News. They moved to an analysis of the Melb squad. Couldn't believe they were amazed at Bird's selection claiming he'd come out of left field.... Completely ignoring that he's the leading wicket taker in domestic cricket two years running. Complete nuff nuffs. I think it's 87 wickets in 14 first class games.
