Siddle did an excellent job.

Siddle did an excellent job.
Not trying to diminish from what he did. His batting has come a very long way. It's just that I really rate Pattinson with the bat. Technically excellent in attack and defense with a good head on his shoulders and has a good range of shots. Paired with a batsman, he's capable of more than just just holding up an end. I think he's played the spinners well.

Agreed. He should have been in at 8.

Good move here to take off Lyon. Wasn't bowling well.

That ball from Siddle seemed to tail in. Reverse swinging already??
Lyon was a bit off. Rather him full than short though.

High performance manager must have dictated that Pattinson can only bowl 3 overs an hour.

Nothing surprises me with how we 'manage' our bowlers. Clarke is too astute a captain for this just to be an oversight.

Yep, the situation was crying out for the guy who's ripped out two wickets in three overs. Clearly under instruction on workload.

And another 3 over spell, which snared a wicket, then off again. You reckon he'll get another 3 over burst before stumps?

Reminds me of how Rodney Hogg used to be handled (how many Rodney decided to bowl in any given spell).

I don't have a problem with 3 over spells.... But one a session????
Take it it's full extension and he'll be bowling 9 overs a day. That is just a massive sports science con job.

Hogg was amazing. He just used to walk off the ground and his captain didn't even know he was gone. I would have liked to see him pull that crap under Ian Chappell :)

Yep, they convince the bowler he can only bowl so many overs a day and anything more will cause him to break down. Not good to have those thoughts in a bowler's mind. It's like how the AFL fitness "experts" have convinced footballers that they cannot play a full game.

All this is a load of nonsense, I'm hearing young bowlers in local cricket these days talking about red zones etc. I feel like booting them up the backside and saying "just get out there and bowl son".

Well, our worst fears with Lyon happened yesterday. Didn't look like getting a wicket. Bowling too straight. Never worked the crease. Never changed the angle he bowled all. But no great surprise for me really.

The field placings for Lyon were a disgrace. Long on went straight back. Given his deficiencies I listed above, he needs to buy a wicket ala Krazy on the last tour there. Hard to do that went the batsman are knocking singles to long on....

If these are the pitches that are going to be dished up (and they will continue to do so and knew that from the start), then I can't see us getting 20 wickets in any test.

Also, given the two chaps at the crease now are 50 not, I would have given Warner a bowl. Give him 2 overs and then he is off.

Didn't mix up his pace too much either. Seemed to be solely focused on bowling a full length.

Nah, reckon we'll end up giving them a small chase. Sewag will knock it over inside 10 overs though.
MS has just been at his belligerent best.

Ashwin to Watson, OUT, Ashwin gets Watson with the last ball before lunch. The crowd erupts too. This is what offspinners should be bowling on this pitch. Flighted, slower through the air, wider outside off, and then it dips. Watson, who wants to play a forward-defensive, discovers he is not close to the pitch of the ball, and the ball turns and bounces to go off the glove or the shoulder of the bat for an easy catch to slip

Bet it wasn't bowled at 94kph either Lyon you clown..... Couldnt even get numbers 10 and 11 out FFS.
