Oh hahahahaaha they are gong to rest Patinson for the second test as he exceeded 3 overs in a given hour!!

AUSTRALIA'S lone danger man in the first Test, James Pattinson, could be rested from the second leg of the series in Hyderabad, with team hierarchy desperate not to risk the fast bowler breaking down again.

They're making this crap up as they go.... bowls 6 overs across 2 sessions on day two when he could have changed the course of the game if he'd been allowed to continue his devastating start. Ends up bowling 30 overs in that innings and 33 for the match. Under bowl him when it matters and then over bowl him so he can't play the next game.

It's absurd.

At least if we bring in another spinner we can bring in a batsman that can actually play spin . . .

And who might that be? :D Outside of Clarke, the rest of the main batsmen struggle to do it.

My point isn't that we don't need 2 spinners though. It would be great if we could. I just don't see the point in playing 2 poor ones who will cause India no issue. 2 spinners might be perform slightly better than 3 quicks plus 1, but I don't see them performing well enough to still bowl us to a victory. I think our only hope of a victory is to throw caution to the wind with the quicks and hope they tear through India in 1 or 2 tests. They might not - but I can't see the spinners doing it either and any pitch that allows our spinners to give their bats any trouble at all is going to see us absolutely murdered by their spinners.

But if they want to play 2 spinners then I agree that Maxwell or Smith may as well come in to add extra depth to the batting order.

As for resting Patto - fug me

Firstly, the resting of Pattinson is a joke. Our only threatening bowler and he's potentially going to get rested. I mean heck me, we have a series to win, focus on that. He only bowled so many overs cause the others were crap and he was the only threatening bowler. Focus should be put on the guys that failed, not looking to rest our best bowler.

Secondly, on the wickets and second spinner. I think the fact that our quicks didn't bowl well is a major contributing factor to our poor performance. starc and siddle were rarely threatening, bowled too short on that sort of wicket, which put more pressure on Lyon and Patto.

In terms of spinner to come in, do we take a risk and play, gulp, Steve Smith?? At least he adds strength to the batting.

Out: Lyon, Starc and Warne
In: Maxwell, Dog and Haydos

Me and another unnamed post have loaded up on India. Unaustralian yes but very profitable exercise.

And what I like about playing in India, you can pitch it outside legstump and still get out.

Hey djboonie, hows the TAB going today? :)

Quality shot by our no4 bat......

Thet haven't learned the lessons from the first test. Patience, you gotta have patience. And you can't take the conditions for granted/make assumptions in India.

Vice captain too Langers
Someone has to set the example.

Typical Watson innings. Get yourself in and look good playing solid shots. Think you're dominating and start playing like it's last half dozen in the nets.

Hughes is playing well.... Might have learnt those lessons. All the others have got themselves out with poor cricket shots.

With Doherty and Maxwell in the team, we're going to need 600.

Maxwell's certainly got the footwork... pity it's backing away to give himself room.

Yeah, I can't see how this spin attack is an improvement on anything. But time will tell.

Im confused. We are not using DRS for this series correct.

Yet, the central umpire went to the third umpire for a close in catch and fair enough. However, I would have thought the video ump can only check to see if the catch is taken.... not whether the batsman hit the ball or not.

Im confused.... o_O

I'm confused too, then. I thought assessing edges was the realm of the DRS.

Under the player management policy will they rest Clarke for spending too much time in the middle ?

Under the same system, Ed Cowan, Dave Warner and Shane Watson get top marks for constantly conserving energy.

I'm struggling to see how the words "spin" or "attack" comply with Maxwell's profile.

Agreed... should bat four.

Cowan is now averaging 32 halfway through his 14th test. When do they make a call on him? After this series?

And when will they finally concede that they have to play 6 batsmen. Not bits and pieces players. Just six batsmen.

Seems this tour is raising more questions than answers re selections. I cannot fathom the selection committee for the last 2 years. Given back to back ashes are ahead surely they would be looking ahead. Inveratity & co should go!!!!
