In the shield this year, only four batsman have scored 2 centuries.

Pointing
Haddin
Burns
Rogers

3 of those would be deemed to be too old. I don't know why you can pick a batsman to play in a one off series... eg. Haddin in India or Rogers in England.

The selectors have been rolling out the same bullshit lines for years. We must rebuild blah blah blah. No point rebuilding with guys that are averaging 35 at shield level.

The sooner Free Agency comes into Test Cricket the better!
Hughes also has 2 centuries at SS level. I'd most favour rogers of that bunch. No qualms about dropping non-performers but I'd stick with Hughes. If that stuff about denying him specialist training ahead of this tour is true then I only have to ask again where are the priorities??

Agree, we finally have a guy that wants to try and get himself ready and it gets denied. You have to question, why isn't the national coach working on this sort of stuff?? Since McDermott has left, our quicks have got worse, our spin bowling coach is a keeper and I have no idea who the hell the national batting coach is, and what the hell is doing to prepare our guys.

The whole thing reeks of mismanagement

Not sure where you get your stats but Hughes scored 158 and 120 both against Victoria (one in SA and one in VIC).

I was only talking about four day shield cricket. Got the above figures off the Cricket Australia website.

No wonder our national team is in such disarray, CA can't even get their stats right! Cricinfo is the only place you can trust ;)

The sooner Free Agency comes into Test Cricket the better!
A recent Greg Baum article mentioned one of the Argus report findings that hasn't been implemented which for the life of me I don't understand why. Not quite free agency, but a system focused on developing emerging talent. Seems like a loan system similar to soccer. It was highlighted in the context of a young Vic leggie (can't remember his name) who with the emergence of Fawar, has dropped down the pecking order. SA are right into him, but the Vics signed him up on a contract to make sure they didn't lose him. Now he's not getting a game with Rose being picked before him. He might not be ready, but you think a system that would allow a kid like that to gain experience and fast track his development it exactly what we need. The incentive for the home state is that if he develops as hoped, they don't miss the long term benefits of having a class player in the squad.

Perhaps some parochialism is standing in the way or some good average players seeing a career threatened. Either way, the powers need to make these things happen straight away because we need to best young talent getting experience at first class level rather then being held back for lack of opportunity.

I couldn't believe what I was reading when I saw Arthur's comments on this. I guess it really highlights the difference between ODI and T20 form and what's required in test cricket.

Read the same article Langers, and thought the idea was a great one. Would be a great for teams like NSW who seem to be the breedng ground of australian talent at the moment. Ensures that the best talent gets chances that they should. No brainer for mine
No brainer is exactly right. How long ago was the Argus report handed down? Is it something they're going to do but haven't got around to it yet, or has it been shuffled off to the too hard basket?

Ah fcuking great...

Australia's troubled tour of India is headed for meltdown as Shane Watson, James Pattinson, Usman Khawaja and Mitchell Johnson have been axed for the third Test in Mohali after breaching team protocol.

Available players: Michael Clarke (capt), David Warner, Ed Cowan, Phillip Hughes, Moises Henriques, Glenn Maxwell, Steven Smith, Peter Siddle, Mitchell Starc, Xavier Doherty, Nathan Lyon, Brad Haddin (wk)
Doubtful: Matthew Wade (wk)
Out: Shane Watson, James Pattinson, Mitchell Johnson, Usman Khawaja

Now Hughes gets a game not because he is good enough, but because we have no-one else.

I was ready for the story of late night boozing and instead they didn't do their bloody homework. Micky Arthur and the coaching panel should be shot. This is the line in the sand? Give me a break. What odds are the poms for a 10-0 super white wash ?

Terrific example set by our vice captain too.

My theory, easier to trot this crap out than saying we are resting Patto, Watson is dropped cause he's crap and Midge and Ussie aren't good enough and shouldn't even be in the squad.........though it doesn't justify Steve Smith's selection..........

Patto, should be excused purely cause of performance. What points could he give when he's been our best bowler on tour??
Watson, should be whacked as he's the VC and should lead by example.
Midge, not sure he's smart enough to 1) count to 3 and 2) explain and techinical, or mental deficiencies, and he's not even in the team
And Ussie, well this bloke needs a farken massive boot up the a$$. Can't get in the side, looks like he might get in, then stuffs up again. Already knocks a plenty on this guy for his game smarts, fielding, lethargy when batting/fielding, this guy needed to do what he was asked, and he didn't. Dumb

I thought this was a joke when I heard it, however there it was later on ABC Radio at 8pm ! I can neither bat or bowl and my presentation skills are OK if we're using MS Paint. I wish to be considered for the 3rd Test !

It's amazing. Seemingly such a minor thing for people to do.

Speaks of something. Either of slackness and unprofessionalism, or there's something more to it. Either way, it's pathetic.

It's like at work, when things aren't going well, we have more and more meetings. Don't actually let us get out there and actually DO some work, no, we get dragged into a meeting room to ask why we are doing this and that.

This is why Boof Lehmann is the man to lead us forward. He's a stats freak, a cricket tragic, but the thing he believes in most is net work, and actual time in the middle.

Yeah, all that's fine. And we all agree endless meetings are crap. But self reflection and self assessment are an important part of all professional sports. After a loss like that, it's exactly the time you'd be doing it. Writing down three things, in your own time, is hardly that taxing. It's such a weak, pathetic effort, much like how they performed in the last two tests.

That they chose such a harsh and public punishment points to something more. Make an example and hope the message gets through to everyone. Not sure it's going to improve selection decisions.
