So who makes way for Warner?..... Hope it's not Rogers

Ill get howled down for this but Rogers goes for mine. I love the way the guy goes about it. His atttitude and everything is how you would want every batsman to value his wicket. However, this series is cooked and Rogers won't be part of the future... Warner is on the other hand so if we are going to lose, we might as well play the younger crowd* and see which ones can/can't play.

*This excludes djboonie mate the Big Show. I don't care how many runs he makes in South Africa.. if he plays another Test I'll give the game away.

I agree with what you are saying, however if it a choice between Watson and Rogers, I would much rather see Watson go. Watson isn't exactly part of our long term plans either, so I would much rather the younger members of the side learning from Rogers (time in the middle, attitude, how to make hundreds) than from Watson.

The choice might be easier if Clarke fails to get up

South Africa series does give me some hope. in that, their reserves might be as raw (and that's a euphemism) as ours. I mean, Maxwell hitting 155 odd at number six...

This might be a little crazy, but is Cosgrove still pretty much frozen out?

Don't know about frozen out, but he's probably somewhere close to the fridge...

Pitch sounds like a road too.

About the size of one too.

In all seriousness, he is in a way similar to Boof. Wasn't Boof on the outer in his younger days. Always had the talent, but not the discipline.

I'm a massive fan of Cosgrove's ability. I have no doubt he had plenty of test runs in him and could well still be able to cut it. Just can't see it happening. He'd need to rattle off Bradmanesque figures at the start of the Shield season to be considered again.

Cowan saying he'd prefer having the week off instead of playing speaks volumes.
What on earth has he done since the India tour? Two tour games and a test match in which he spent about 30 mins batting isn't so demanding that he would need a rest . . . especially with the opportunity to dislodge Rogers/Watson.

I'm feeling that's about as far as my interest extends. I'm sure I'll get sucked in when play gets underway. Could end up with the attention span of a 5 year old if things go as I expect.

You would think Warner for rooters back Smith is a given.

Whether its Starc or Lyon for Patto's spot depends on the pitch.
Yeah I am expecting Warner to play in place of smith, and I think they will go with Lyon given the pitch is apparently dry and will turn.

Twatson to provide the other seamer

Two spinners didn't work in India. I see no need to pick 2 here. Only ever pick 2 spinners if at least 1 is world class.

Bird for Patto. Warner for Smith. Lyon for Agar (if they feel Lyon is the spinner they want).

Starc, Lyon and Warner in

We won the toss and are batting first

Hughes injured? Interesting call if not. Batted well first Test. Perhaps they wanted to keep Smith in as the 2nd spinner so Hughes is the one to make way for Warner.

I guess that is the line of thinking they have gone with.

Surely if we lose this test (*when we do), we go down the youth path and get rid of watson (preferably) or Rogers and bring in Hughes.

Batting first. Muggy conditions apparently. How many down by lunch?
