Amazing day's play. Got on a plane and England were cruising, get off and they were smashed. Get off a plane again and we're cruising at stumps.

Clarke's been brilliant, I think. Just took the game on and attacked.

Good to see him get his ton, after a poor first innings. I'd love to see a bit on consistency rather than SFA/100+ but it's better than 2 SFA's I guess.

Strategy wise, I imagine as there's no danger to running out of time, we'll simply bat until we're all out and make as large a score as possible then do what we can to bowl the POMs out for less than that?

Would be a pleasant start to win the first one.

What do people think about Bailey in the test side?

Looks very limited for mine. I just can't see him playing many tests.

I know he offers leadership and the like but I'm of the thinking it would be more beneficial to have someone else in at 6.

Yeah BAiley just looks like he will nick them all the time. Not too bad in OD cricket when there aren't as many slips etc, but will be his downfall in tests. Even today's knock, was a knock you'd be rapt with if Siddle or Harris made it, but this guy is our number 6. Happy to give him a couple more tests to find his feet, but hasn't impressed to date

His footwork is fairly much non-existent for mine. Doesn't appear to have many shots on the off side either.

Just doesn;t look to have the game for test level. Which is probably reflected in his first class average for that matter.

Happy to arrange more flights for you Grizz;)

Whether people want to hear this or not, I'm afraid it's the way it is. Australia's obsession with the truncated form of the game has destroyed batsmanship at Test level. Our guys seem to think they have to play at every ball, a neurotic compulsion developed from the likes of 20/20.

FFS guys, you ARE allowed to let balls go outside the off stump. Broad must have thought it was his birthday yesterday, just hang one out there and wait for the batsman to chase it.

What baffles me is we keep picking 20/20 and ODI players in the test team, not blokes necessarily that look and play like test players.

Was joking with my mate that this was virtually a one day batting line up. Clarke and warner are the only ones up to test level (warner needs more consistency but he is up to the level). Smith might get there. The rest are bidding time until our youth can come good.

I agree that there are few batsmen around of Test quality, but I don't blame that on ODIs and T-20s. All other Test playing nations have as many ODIs and T-20s as we do. I think there are other problems, such as quality of club wickets, not having top players playing shield cricket ( this year is a bit better), drop in wickets.

Now whilst I don't want to necessarily play old blokes, you cannot overlook the form of North and White.

All options must be considered if we are serious about winning this series.

Adelaide oval will be road-like, so strengthening the bowling may be important also, but having a good strong performance with the bat might be the best way to play the Adelaide test, i.e. Put the game in our favour with the bat, or make it a choice of Draw or Win for us.

What we do know about the Poms is they love to bat all day and bat slowly. Cook, Trott, Bell, Root, all possess the ability to bat for long period of time. BUT the 1-0 test scoreboard will mean they will want to force the issue a bit.

I don't expect Tremlett to get another crack until Perth when they might use his height.

Will they bring in Panessar for Adelaide?

Every Australian cricket fan should chip in a dollar and pay the fine for Clarke.

Michael Clarke, the Australia captain, is expected to be charged by the ICC and fined 20% of his match fee for his sledge against James Anderson during the dying stages of Australia's win in the first Ashes Test in Brisbane.
Clarke is believed to have been cited for a level one Code of Conduct offence over the exchange in which he said Anderson, who was batting at the time, should "get ready for a broken f***ing arm". The stump microphone picked up Clarke's words.
It is expected that Clarke will be charged under section 2.1.4 of the ICC's Code of Conduct, which relates to the use of "language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an international match".

Getting a bit hot in the kitchen for some...

Jonathan Trott, the England batsman, has left the Ashes tour with a stress-related illness and will not return for the remainder of the series following the visitors' 381-run defeat in the first Test at the Gabba. Trott departed Brisbane on Monday after falling for low scores to the short-pitched bowling of Mitchell Johnson in both innings of the match.
England team management have been aware for some time that Trott was not feeling his best, and the team director Andy Flower and ECB managing director Hugh Morris spoke to him during the Brisbane Test, after which time the decision was made. England are not ruling out Trott's return to international cricket at a later date, as he is known to have battled other bouts of stress during a Test career that began with a century against Australia at the Oval in 2009.

That's a turn up.

Quite the contrast really: in recent times we've been sending players home for not doing their homework.

Ripping partnership thus far from Clarke and Haddin. 200 from 305 and counting.
Clarke backing up his big 113 from the first test is great to see - 148 and counting
Haddin batting consistently which is pleasing (94 & 53 first test) and currently on 86. Hopefully he can reach the ton.

Would love to see the team make it to 600 with the view to declaring and potentially snaring an early wicket or two before days end.

That was some sort of ball from Mitch.
