I think the way Clarke carried himself through the passing of Phil Hughes raised his level of esteem for most people. Shame it took so long and for such a sad situation to bring it about.

Kholi has been very impressive and so far it seems a great choice as captain.
Off to the test this week Brishawk ?

Sadly no. I usually go for the first 4 days but this year it was not going to fit in with the chaos that is my life right now. My wife just gave birth to a little baby boy who was 11 weeks early so in hindsight it was an especially good decision to forgo the test match!

Cool. Another Hawk. Congratulations.

Cheers :thumbsu:

Grandma already knitted him a scarf, beanie and booties in hawks colours. I sung the song to him many times in the womb and we have already found it works to calm him down. Indoctrination has thus far been successful!

Was about to give some praise to Rogers for saving his spot, but he got out as I was writing. Good thing I checked before I posted.

Not sure he is the answer. Also not sure who else we have.

Gee Hazlewood showed a lot. Good pace and when he gets it in the right zone, a real handful. Really liked what I saw.

How fast was he bowling? The one concern with him I had was his pace. Seemed a little too slow for test cricket in the one dayers last summer.

Geez, we are really light on for quality batsmen these days. Warner and Smith can't do it all. Hate to think what we would score if both failed in the same innings.

Used to be that several tons in Shield cricket were required to get a gig in the test team. These days a couple of run-a-ball 40s will do the trick.

Watson is a large part of that. continually gets a score of 15-40

Rogers is on his last legs.

Mitch marsh has been reasonable with the bat so far.
Haddin needs a big knock here with Smith

That is Brad Haddin's form since the last Ashes series. His keeping has been the best it has been since he began playing cricket - genuinely reliable (unlike before he was dropped for Wade). But can he really remain in the side if his batting is this bad?

Tend to agree, but Mitch Marsh is living on potential. Only has two first class centuries to his name and an average of 29.6. I think we need to persevere with him but he really does need some experienced heads around him.

Hes averaging 40 in Test cricket so far which is a good sign, especially debuting in a tough series where Australia got smashed.

His body holding up is a bit question mark however.

Hopefully we can sneak a score around 350 here...

All going well I would like to see this as our test team in the next couple of years:

Maddinson
Warner
Burns
Smith
Clarke
M.Marsh
Carters (will accept Nevile who seems a little bit better keeper but not the same quality of batsman. Carters is probably talented enough to make it as a pure batsman. Last FC innings was 198!).
Johnson
Pattinson
Cummings
Hazelwood
Lyon

Rogers looks like his time has come. S.Marsh is never going to be. Watson is a one day player.

I think the trick will be to transition them out slowly. S.Marsh can go out straight away. Watson and Rogers will depend on the form of who is to come in to replace them.

I dont rate Carters at all...

I am hoping Pete Handscomb will make it into the test side. Started the year in fantastic form with the bat before a broken finger a couple of weeks ago at training. Unfortunately he doesnt keep for Victoria (kept throughout junior cricket when I played with him) since Wade does.

Agree with Maddinson and Burns who look the two most likely types to take over a batting spot in the side. Keen to see Pattinson back into the side!

Not sure if you knew, but that is 12 in the side you picked. Obviously a rotation of Johnson, Pattinson, Cummins and Hazelwood would work. Possibly need another stock bowler type - not sure who is out there?

I like carters because I don't think there are any great keepers out there and so might as well pick the best batsman. Handscomb does look promising too of course.

Yeah I picked 12 as basically you need to rotate pace bowlers and sometimes it is horses for courses. I reckon we have missed Pattinson. Siddle is the best of the charge in and bowl all day but has fallen away in the last 12 months. I think with marsh he is less required. Especially is smith keeps bowling.

I am a massive Maddison fan. The kid has it!

It's only hit & giggle, but Maddinson is playing a nice innings tonight. a baggy green isn't too far off.

You beauty! Now to get Maddison in as opener and I almost have my team in
Can't wait for Cummins to make his way back into the team. Listening to Junior commentating last night, he'll be touring.
