Just watching Kohli play last night, and even though it was smash & bat format, his sheer artistry and skill shone through. His precision and ability to work that field around his amazing.
Great player. Pity he is such an obnoxious arsewipe.

He certainly gets away with a bit more then everyone else but I actually don’t mind him.

My mates working at the SCG at the minute , reckons during every break of the tour game Kohli is hitting the nets or getting extra throw downs on the ground .
Only guy doing it too .

I respect Kohli. I like how he gives it back. And his batting craft is impeccable.

Pitty that Shaw has gone down. Unbelievable talent. You seen the footage from the tour match vs Engalnd A? I've never seen such dejected and despondent bowlers before. They just know they have utterly no hope.

No I haven’t . Only seen footage of him in his test debut and in the latest tour game .

Looks so well organised but has a real flair to his batting also. Plays all around the wicket . Basically ticks every box.
Can see why everyone is so excited about him.
Test cricket needs players like him coming through .

Very hard to like. Remember him carrying on like an absolute prat when he caught some Bangladeshi batsman out a few years ago.

Absolutely unecessary...

Apart from being a blinder of a catch by Khuwaja, it was a pretty ambitious shot by Kholi. Play so far from the body and the risk increases exponentially. Maybe a touch of arrogance?

Is this the worst Australian batting line-up - on paper at least - for many, many years? That's balanced, to a certain extent, by having four very fine bowlers in the team.

Probably since World Series Cricket.

Though I do remember sitting at the SCG in 1986 watching India pile on 4/600. That was a couple of hard days at the cricket.

The WSC years at least had Graeme Yallop. He is one of my favourite batsmen to watch, along with David Gower and Mark Waugh and possibly Greg Chappell. Beautiful stroke-makers.

For sure , it’s the way he plays and he had a few mates in that top order playing loose shots.
It’s a by product of playing mostly on slow and low decks where you protect your stumps and pads.
I think people underestimate how tough it can be to adjust

Australia bowled beautifully to them but they will need to keep that up all series

Very very thin. They made the right move playing the extra bat .

I think that’s why India will always feel in the game against us . We need 1-2 guys to have breakout series .

Yes without a doubt in my lifetime, but I can only remember as far back as the summer of 92/93. But we have only 1 legitimate quality batsmen in our line up.

Absolutely , would still be light on with Smith and Warner in TBH

I just watched a one day game between two unnamed local clubs. I watched a number 3 take 35 overs to hit 12. The captain didn;t pull him, the coach didn't pull him. While the batsman was a junior playing mens, it was absolutely shocking cricket.
This guy's name wasn't Khawaja, was it?

Might have been... I note that this particular batting exploit has been doing the rounds too.

I still maintain Finch is not a test batsman.
Unfortunately our lack of batting stocks has seen Finch along with a few others get games

Not his fault but his technique just is nowhere near test standard , Victoria bat him in the middle order for a reason

Pretty poor, isn't it? No one really did anything today except, of all people, Head, who I don't have much time for.

Maddinson has currently on a big undefeated hundred. Be good if he gets more consistent. I think he has a bit of talent. Renshaw just posted a triple century, too. Pucovski is back playing although was out early. Singha and Edwards look good also. I think there is some talent there, but just not yet. Desperately need Smith and Warner, but I am really not sure whether I want to see either of them play again, particularly Warner.

Gonna be a tough summer cricket-wise.

If you’ve seen the main cricket thread our current batting issues were forseen by quite a few people who are or have been involved in high level cricket as far as 15-20 years back, myself included.
So it isn’t a huge surprise from that respect

There is some talent there but those guys have a fair way to go . Huge step up from grade to shield cricket to test level.
And most guys aren’t shooting the lights out at Shield level anyway.
We have what we have.

250 is a competitive score agai st us with decent bowling , which India now have

I really get annoyed when I hear this. "Gives it back"!! Kohli's not giving it back to anyone, he's an antagonistic little shit who will dish it out whether he cops it or not. He's in his element right now. He knows the Aussies are hamstrung and he can say and do whatever he pleases. His behaviour goes well beyond being competitive, and it's only the power of India in world cricket that prevents officials from stepping in.

I like how Kohli isn't the meek little indian guy. Been like that his whole career. And I like it that he dishes it out whether he cops it or not. He's combative. And a character. And he backs it up with the most sublime skill. Very much like SK Warne.

What are you thoughts on the pathways programs and army of coaches seemingly in place from under 12 right through? What I'm seeing is a generation of bowling-machine fed bastmen, who are taught to react not to think. The sameness in technique and reliance on belligerent batting is a concern to me.

I've long been keeping an eye on Sangha. While he's rrelatively recently entered the pathways system he did start out playing against men from a young age and have to work stuff out by himself etc. I think batsmen who have to struggle and work stuff out is a good thing.
