Agree I’ve got a feeling we may have been 3-4 down .
I think they are playing the long game a little , trying to keep their bowlers fresh as possible for next test and forcing work into ours

I’ve really liked his ability to read the game and bat accordingly for a guy so young
He will have his challenges but so far I think we have a very good one coming through .......hopefully we don’t stuff him up

What an abject batting performance. Way too many technical and mindset issues with the top six. Head looks ok in patches but has a disturbing lack of footwork. Finch is just not up to test standard. Mitch Marsh, seemingly, can't hold a place in ther top six - averaging 25-ish after 30 tests and playing in the top order is not a good thing.... I have doubts about Harris' technique too. The sad thing is that these guys are apparently the best we have right now.

But out of all of that gloom is Patrick Cummins. What a star. Has huge pride, skill and application. Maybe being injured for all opf these years was possibly beneficial to him in that it kept him away from the 'development and coaching' that has nurtured all of his playing contemporaries.

The ‘batsman’ could do far worse than look at his approach to batting . Keeps it simple has 2-3 go to shots, solid defence, happy to leave the ball and 9 times out of 10 makes the bowler get him out .
Most of our dismissals have been abysmal this test

M.Marsh is an easy target but his selection this test on no form at all is a concern .
I think Head and Harris are fighters but they already have a ‘ nice 20-30’ feel about them

I remember my dear old mum telling me that Test Cricket (and the captaincy) destroyed Ian Craig who is? the youngest player to score a first class double century and the youngest Australian captain. Once hailed as the next Bradman, he was gone after only 11 tests with an average under 20. There is much to be said for maturity and working on your game.
As for our current side, I am leaning towards replacing Finch with Renshaw, and MMarsh with Stoinis. Not convinced either change would work out, but we could probably safely bet on the result not being any worse.
Another thing, our bowlers failed miserably in the first innings by not putting together 100-150 runs as they normally do. If they had have pulled their weight, we would currently be within 40-50 runs of victory. They need to lift their game.

I'm not sure that the young Queenslander is the answer to replace Mitch Marsh. His numbers aren't great - with bat and ball - and he hasn't - played fpr a month. I wish him all the best but don't have much confidence he'll offer much more than Mitch Marsh. In the absence of a genuine all-rounder, the number six position must be a batsman, especially when we're hitting the field with the weakest batting line-up we've ever fielded. And a part-time spinner against the Indian batsmen 'aint going to end well me thinks.

I don’t get it . We have a weak batting lineup yet keep wanting to go down the all rounder averaging 20ish route at 6
I wonder what the plan will be against Sri Lanka , do we go rebuild and put the longer term talent in and back them or keep persisting with the underperforming older brigade ?

It's totally baffling... weakening an already fragile batting line-up with playing someone who can't really bat or bowl.
If we were a little stronger in the top six, you'd be parking Travis Head at six to learn his test craft. Or if he didn't to slink back to Shield cricket.

Certainly still seems to be the boys club or favourites vibe with some selection still going on .
At the minute it just seems like we are wall papering cracks ( very poorly as well ) and hoping Smith and Warner return and average 60 and 50 to steady the ship.

It does seem like that, yes. I can't see any real turn-around happening in Sydney. We just dont have the cattle. The first Ashes test is onlt 3 tests away - reckon we have to start planning for that now.

I hope so because to be somewhat competitive we need too.
I would like us to select Worrall in the squad if fit . Bowls an English length and pace and moves the ball both ways .
I know Glouster were impressed until he got injured last season with them.

Re Renshaw.
We all know that he has not scored runs in the 'mini' Sheffield Shield which now appears to be nothing more than a warm up for the Hit and Hope stuff. We also know that he was having concussion problems. Which may have affected his batting during the Sheffield Shield games.
When the 'mini' series was over he went back to grade cricket and hit a big 300 which is the highest score ever in Brisbane grade cricket. I know that it is only grade but to score over 300 on the Brisbane grade wickets is no mean feat.
What it does indicate is that he is back in form and an in form Renshaw is much better than our two current openers.
I just hope that he is brought back for the two Sri Lankan matches. We need him and a couple more class bats to be tried before the Ashes tests. Somehow I can't help thinking that it wont happen and the Australian White stick brigade (AKA selectors) will persevere with what we know are players that just aren't up to test standard.

I'm a Renshaw fan and he really is the exact type of bat that we need in the side . Issue is when the spot has been there to take he has failed pretty poorly both times. Whether it was not being able to perform with the pressure of getting the spot back or just form who knows .
If we get rolled in this test I would have him back in for the Sri Lanka tests and we need to persist with him longer term. His county form was excellent last season so you would think with an Ashes campaign on the horizon that would hold some weight for him.
We are better off with a 80-100 ball 20-30 from him then the quick fire , look like getting out at any moment innings we are currently getting .

Ian Craig contracted hepatitis in 1958 which ruled him out of the 58-9 series & Richie Benaud took over. He got married & devoted his time to his pharmaceutical goods business. Had he not got sick, he would have lead the Australian team against the Poms as he was undefeated in 5 tests against South Africa.
