Re: 21K at the MCG today??

Seriously, I was there and it was the worst atmosphere I have ever experienced at a game. The Port turnout actually wasn't bad, and they made more noise than the 15,000 Hawks that decided to turn up.

I have been buying a Hawks membership since 1996 - and despite their great membership numbers at the moment I fear the huge bandwagoner element that is exposed when they play interstate teams puts them at risk. A buddy knee injury could see their membeship numbers instantly cut in half.

But when you hear that even the supposedly passinate bigfooty supporters will not go because it is too cold, and then to see the trickle that do turn up cannot even make noise to help out their boys - maybe I will not renew my Hawks membership next year. Why should I carry their club? I was the loudest supporter there.

You have been found out as a shit talker.

You were not at the game at all.

You do not have a Hawthorn membership. (Why would a North supporter that hates Hawthorn buy a Hawks membership).

From watching the Hawks vs Port game on television, the 21,000 crowd was almost all Hawthorn supporters. There were only about 1,000 port supporters to 20,000 Hawks supporters.

That's because out of all the interstate teams, Port and Fremantle have the least supporters in Melbourne (practically none). On the other hand, the Brisbane Lions have a decent following in Melbourne. And from watching the North vs Lions game on t.v, there were about 8,000 Lions supporters to 11,000 North supporters.

I must say, you are a good troll and did a good job of deflecting attention from North's poor crowds.

Re: 21K at the MCG today??

Oh the irony. Hahaha.

North fans are using this as a deflection for their poor crowds.

Others supporters need to understand bad crowds occur every now and then to all teams.

But hey, North supporters, who you trying to kid.

NM supporters are a bitter bunch.

It must be the small d**k syndrome.

Re: 21K at the MCG today??

Saw some of it on TV yesterday...not only was it suprisingly small it was such a lifeless crowd....the most dull game I've seen in a while. No doubt Hawks fans should be ashamed of themselves for not turning up but they would not have been watching much of a game.

I don't understand the idea that 21,000 represented a notably small crowd for Hawthorn in 11th V Port. They drew exactly the same the last time they were mid ladder and at the G VS Port in 2003.

The combination of The flag and Buddy in recent years pumped Hawk attendances but the "par" attendance at Hawthorn would be more or less what they got in that game. When not in the top 4 or when not going well Hawthorn are not a big draw. This has always been and is now the case.

If they don't get back to top 5 or 6 regularly then Hawks attendances will drop back as they did V Port.

Re: 21K at the MCG today??

Or maybe the 2nd highest crowd for round 10- being Fremantle & North Melbourne a sign less people are going to the footy in general?

With even less bf'ers acknowledging the fact.
As you pointed out earlier ace, North dont have the support, when there is a weekend with more at a NM game than 6 other games it's ignored. Double standards, particularly from the 1 premiership in 50 year'ers :)

Re: 21K at the MCG today??

I've added the position of the Victorian team when they played - out of those 9 games, 7 of them the home Victorian team has been 10th or lower on the ladder. I would think that their relative poor form would also be a factor.

Edit: Why didn't you go back further?
2004: v Melbourne 20096, v Coll 27226, v Haw 11,682

You are right though. Essendon when finalling regularly broke 30,000 V you. Richmond in our only home game V you at the G when in the top 8 broke 30,000. Of course the form of the home team matters. When Hawks drew 30,000 V you they had the flag. Perhaps that made an impact !!!! Only quoting figures when your team is up and running distorts reality.

You are so full of it.

SLF and Zebra are the two worst Trolls on BF.

But here is an article for you. Maybe you should just buy more North Memberships.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/where-are-all-the-kangaroos-fans/story-e6frf9jf-1225876702513
Membership since the Brayshaw era began has taken a rollercoaster ride from 22,372 in 2007 to 34,342 in 2008 and back down to 28,682 at last count - the lowest of the 16 clubs.

Debt has edged up to $4.5 million and the "white knight" businessmen Brayshaw hoped would pour $10 million into the club's coffers have not come forward, a failure he blames on the global financial crisis.

I don't know who is the bigger troll, SLF, Zebra or Brayshaw.
They all seem to lie out their ass.

Hard for the mentally challenged to put a negative spin on maybe ?

You keep repeating yourself big guy. But I don't mind being put in the company of Brayshaw and SLF - they are quality North men.

I actually took a photo at the ground. If someone can tell me how to upload it, I will. It shows a section of the G with about 7 Hawks fans and 3 Port which is a fair representation of the crowd breakdown from the day. Although judging by the noise that Port were making, you could be forgiven for thinking it was closer to 50/50.

What's Going On With North's Crowds? The AFL Must Act!

I was at the game last night and I swear that of the 43k plus, the vast majority were North supporters!

It would appear that if North are given Friday night fixtures - which we invented - we can draw a more than decent crowd.

And with a young exciting developing side, the TV ratings will be very high too.

The AFL must act on the North Melbourne situation.

And give us more of our Friday night games.

Re: What's Going On With North's Crowds? The AFL Must Act!

35,000 if you subtract all the North supporters that scanned their memberships twice.

There is a crowds thread now.

Must have been the reason behind the woeful TV ratings then. All those hordes of North fans were at the game.

Re: What's Going On With North's Crowds? The AFL Must Act!

I want to like North Melbourne, I really do. But when you have supporters like SLF making sarcastic threads on a regular basis it makes it very hard

To be honest, i agree! I think its a disgrace that North, the pioneers of friday footy are given 1 out of 44 spots to the likes of carlton etc. I think North should be guaranteed at leat 4 friday night games a year.

Im sure any fair minded reader/ posters would realise this sarcasm isnt point at them. From your post its doesnt appear directed at the likes of your good self.

I know right, so sad that they have to try and fudge attendance figures.

Thought doesn't help when Carlton played like crap either lol

Why do you need Friday night games to draw a decent crowd?

Is there some reason why North supporters can get to games on Friday night but not those on Saturday or Sunday?

(I don't have an issue with North getting more Friday night games by the way, I simply don't understand your reasoning).

Re: What's Going On With North's Crowds? The AFL Must Act!

Perhaps we should let North play all 11 home games at Etihad Stadium on a Friday night covered live on Fox Sports, whilst the rest of us can carry on life as normal and watch the big games on Friday night from the MCG, AAMI or Subiaco on Channel 7.

Seems like a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Seeing as Hawthorn served up another sh*tful game in Launceston today, I can't wait to see them more on Fox myself.

I can't see the footy public of Tassie putting up with the dribble served up today.

Even a starving bloke gets sick of plain rice.

Re: What's Going On With North's Crowds? The AFL Must Act!

HELLO.

Anyone home?

Port played tonight, and just barely cracked the 20k mark (20,106) yet no one has had a go at them now.

Surely this club has to be considered a basket case now, especially when the crowds are only going to get smaller now that their season is effectively over.

Poor crowd, poor club, both on and off the ground.
