We're guaranteed $100K even if 3 people show up.

No you're not.

The new deal was that every club that plays a home game there will get $100K *more* per game than they did last year, so while a 30K loss will become a 70K profit, attendance still matters.

1:10pm on a sunday. Not to mention shocking weather.

After having a big night was pretty reluctant to go to a 1:10 pm game just to early. Even when i was walking to the train station almost turned back cause it was pissing down rain. Then train was delayed 20 minutes almost turned around then to.

31K mostly Richmond supporters made it to the G the previous week under similar conditions. ( less chance of rain, but it was outdoors ).

That amounts to more than $100,000 extra per club for each home game, the same gain the AFL extracted from the MCC in a similar deal governing MCG games three weeks ago.

That means clubs playing their 11 home games in Melbourne will pick up at least an extra $1.1 million each year.

100k EXTRA per game, not minimum.

Barely rained in melbourne yesterday after midday. Had a total of 2.2mm yesterday most of which came between 10 and 11, well before most people have to leave for the game.

Venue also has a ROOF and the minimum yesterday was 12.3degrees which is actually pretty good.

lol cant believe you actually went to the effort of looking up the weather report. sorry all, i didnt realise the western bulldogs have never pulled a poor crowd before.

still cant undertand why other club supporters and ****** journalists brings this up all the time. what the **** does our crowd numbers mean to your club ? answer .. nothing!. So moan all you like just find something new to have a go at us about because this is getting old.

To the richmond bloke who said about them getting 31k to there game in same conditions, mate we know and you sure do that richmond have way more supporters then us, been around longer therefore only natural to have a bigger supporter base. So we go from playing a melbourne club (Carlton) with 43k in attendance to playing a dud port adelaide outfit and getting 15k now sure more would be great but under the circumstanes 15k was ok.

Seriously fellas i know this is a "discussion board" and we all are entitled to opinions but seriously get over our crowd numbers it has nothing to do with you ... NOTHING!

So based on this thinking a North supporter isn't allowed to talk about whether or not G Ablett goes to the Gold Coast or not. Absolute rubbish mate - people can talk about whatever they want.

like i said mate everyone is entitled to an opinion. But stop acting like sheep and following the leader like everyone else bickering about out crowd figures i could not give a **** what happens with ablett i hate him plain and simple. All im saying is this "why cant north get a good crowd" etc bullshit is getting old , have a dig at us go for it but find something new mate !

I dare say that post might be out of frustration mate, and much like the GC/Ablett thing, it's topic that has been flogged like a dead horse and people bleat shit like they actually know something when they know sweet FA.

Both topics are also where people can easily hide behind their agendas - pretty sad that the general public and most sections of the media dont have the mental capacity to talk about an actual game of football.

After reading that North thread about multiple supporters walking through two, three or sometimes 4 times it does make you wonder more about the North crowds. Just wow.

Our schedule this season is unimaginably bad. If there's any justice, given what Scott and the kids have shown this year, we'll get a better run next season.

It's funny how North fans measure their schedule. Most fans look at the fixture and determine how good or bad it is based on the strength of teams they play. In North's case, you'd look at it and say that they have a huge amount of games with home ground advantage - the most of any Victorian club. This advantage has clearly given them a big benefit on the ladder, with an 80% win ratio of these games to date, compared to just 33% for their other games - including a 2-3 record against other Melbourne clubs in Melbourne.

Yet they determine how good their draw is based on how many fans the opposition will bring with them - which is going to negatively relate to the home ground advantage they get. Despite home games against other Melbourne clubs being obviously a lot harder to win, i'd guess that if they played all 9 Victorian sides at home they'd consider it a great draw.

Then they get on here and complain that crowds don't matter - it's all about wins.

incubi needs to get out more.

What the hell...im a small player in this thread with like 3 posts in the last month...maybe its a personal attack cos all my posts have been based on fact and they cant dispute those...
Oh and the irony of a post like that from someone who averages nearly 10 posts a day over the last 5 years to someone who averages less than 1

You really want to support North with all it's history and success over the years. Based on that alone you really want them to get back and becoming a formidable and strong club again.

But the North people on this board are making it really hard for us to care about with this kind of insecure attitude.

Re: 21K at the MCG today??

Seriously, I was thereand it was the worst atmosphere I have ever experienced at a game. The Port turnout actually wasn't bad, and they made more noise than the 15,000 Hawks that decided to turn up.

I have been buying a Hawks membership since 1996 - and despite their great membership numbers at the moment I fear the huge bandwagoner element that is exposed when they play interstate teams puts them at risk. A buddy knee injury could see their membeship numbers instantly cut in half.

But when you hear that even the supposedly passinate bigfooty supporters will not go because it is too cold, and then to see the trickle that do turn up cannot even make noise to help out their boys - maybe I will not renew my Hawks membership next year. Why should I carry their club? I was the loudest supporter there.

You were not at the Hawthorn game at all. There would not have been 5-6K Port supporters at a game in Melbourne when they even struggle to pull a crowd at home.

You do not have a Hawthorn membership but IMHO instead have several North memberships that you scan whenever you go to North games.

Generally I don't mind North and I want them to do well on and off field. But the bitter North trolls on Big Footy really make it hard for me to like them.

I'm sure there are some North supporters who buy multiple memberships, to show their support for their club and make a donation that way.

Dozens? Probably.

Hundreds? I doubt it, but let's say maybe.

Thousands? Highly unlikely.

I go to every North home game, I'm yet to see anyone scanning several cards through the gate.

Sounds like the problem is that there are just too many other things North 'supporters' would rather do than turn up and watch their team play.

- Big night beforehand
- shocking weather (the game is played in the winter. yep, winter)
- game starting 60 minutes earlier than you'd like
- Train delayed (welcome to Melbourne)

Yes I like to go out on a saturday night and have a social life. By the way the weather is a problem, Not everyone is 18+ and has a license to drive in to the game or drive to the train station.

I don't see how there not legit reasons for someone like me or anyone really, But hey thanks for the judgement ;)

You are right. I suspect this is a bit of an urban myth. There may be a few doing it but it is not prevalent. Indeed if it is possible that North fans do it then it is highly possible others do as well.

The point is a red herring.

The gullibility of some. I mean really.

15k was still a good atmosphere. Lot's of echo with well placed supporter's. Easy to access toilet's, exit's etc....

I was at the Game Yesterday and the crowd was appualing. At 10:30am when the ticket gates opened there wasnt a soul to be seen, usually when the ticket window opens its fairly busy even when a Victorian team vs a Interstate team.

If there was another game in Melbourne yesterday you wouldnt of got all the naturals that turned up (AFL Area almost sold out) and while working i asked the customer what team they supported because they warnt wearing North or Ports Colours and they said neither.

Worrying sign for North Melbourne. They cant blame the weather because it stop raining after 11:30am and it was INDOORS.

The expected crowd was only 16,000 estimated by the AFL anyways so they were under the expected crowd, what a poor effort. Level 3 was closed because with the less staff working at Etihad the more money North Melbourne recieve so they closed level 3. Level 2 was even selling at Level 3 when the GA area in Level 1 sold out.

As i said in the opening paragraph if there was another game in Melbourne, this game wouldve lucky to have 8,000 to 10,000.

Source: I work at Etihad Stadium.

Considering the gates didn't open till 11 you failed at your first hurdle.

this makes me laugh. how many of those 43k were kangas fans? maybe the same 15k that turned up against port?
