Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

wrong. as much as winning against other developing and INCONSISTENT teams may be good, you have to be competitive against the better teams as well for a good season IMO, because that is where you want to be heading, to be one of the better teams in the comp. WHile North certainly have the potential, i havent seen any real talent in NOrths forward line, certainly not to the extent of their midfield (apart from o'keefe up forward) this is an area they really need to address

I know whats "WRONG" tanking for years and then telling everyone how it should be done.
Comeback when you have won something that means you can even hold a candle to us
How many of your supporters have even seen Melbourne win anything that matters?
You have got a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGway to go to be even thought to be as half as good as the Kangas have been over the last 40 years

*sigh*
again... did i ever compare melbourne to north in my post??? no.
i would have thought that if you really wanted to improve you would want to play well against the best teams in the competition i.e. geelong and saints (maybe freo as well now) , isnt that obvious?? since that is the kind of team you need to become....

put on some ****ing glasses

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

My point being that we have been competitive for a VERY VERY long time unlike your team and yes we havent played well against the better teams this year but we have a new coach and a young team and have still won 4 games up to this round more than yours won with a new coach and a young team for a whole year for quite a few years in a row
When we need the opinion of a team that has built a reputation on tanking for years (something we have never ever done and aren't likely to need to) to try and get themselves up the ladder then we will ask but until then ............................

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

This sort of thread is just "pissing in the wind". Every team in the league have been where North are at now "performance wise" in the last few years. The question is will North come good once their young players get more experienced? Nobody on this board has a clue as to the answer to this question, regardless of the horseshit that they might try to pass as intelligent comment here. Fairly recent history (last 30 years) suggests North will come good. But who the hell knows = maybe they won't. I hope they do but I would say that. Most other team's supporter hope the don't = but then they would say that as well. The only thing that is certain is that everything written here) including this) is blah, blah, blah.... but we all know that, don't we?

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

There are worse teams in the league for sure and North can be decent on their day but I've never seen a team run the white flag up the pole quicker than that mob.

Ever since the 2007 finals series where they sandwiched a great win over Hawthorn with two very piss weak efforts against Geelong and Port. They consistently stick the cue in the rack and get throttled.

It has now spanned two coaches so I can't figure it out myself.

Pretty fair comment. I think their list is ok and has some real promise. But they get badly hammered too often. Coach inexperienced and looking like it as well. Will be a looong year.

no you dont understand! this isnt my opinion of what melbourne have done!! my opinion isnt related to MELBOURNE at all??? i wasnt bagging North, i said that you had good potential didnt i? except for your forward line ATM... i dont see why you are dragging MY team into this??? i wasnt even offering any advice on how to develop players or teams! all i said was it makes sense for a season to be successful by a young team who are aspiring to be top 4 (like the Roos, Melbourne, Richmond and WCE... maybe even carlton and essendon) need to be competitive against good teams, because that is what they are aspiring to be! i have no doubt that in 3 years north will be a good team! HOW good could depend on their ability to step up in big matches.... hence them wanting to step up this year or next year against better teams

and how have we been tanking for years??? last time i remember finishing last was in 2008, 2009.... that can hardly countenance a reputation spanning years

also just because you see a post which you think says that north isnt as well positioned to develop as some you think... doesnt mean it is automatically wrong...

are you serious?? i definately hope north come good and become a good team, capable of challenging for Premierships... the same way i HOPE melbourne and richmond do... there is nothing like seeing a team rise from the bottom and become a force....

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

I think originally PuppetMaster made some fair points before an Essendon fan jumped in and had a go at Melbourne's recent history. Not sure why the anger?

I was speaking in general terms, not specifically about you. I was referring to the whole thrust of the thread.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Well Done North.

Gutsy win in the end this week and a nice little recovery from the two embarrassments of the last couple of weeks... but probably shouldn't concede 44 point margins too often, especially against good opposition... which fortunately for the Roos that the Lions definitely aren't... :)

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Good win and good way to win with Bastinac, Cunnington and Greenwood all involved in the lead up and execution of the winning goal, and good to see Brad Scott put the acid on the serial passengers in the last, Hale, Hamish, Harvey and Wells.

Will you concede Bombers aren't either when we beat you later on in the year or is that a foregone conclusion already? :p

I think North is the barometer, anyone remotely close to us either on the scoreboard or the ladder are pretty much a write-off this year. :p

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

I think with B Scott in charge in the next few years Nth will be fighting for top 4 spots (assuming the decline of Geel, St Kil, Dogs and Syd), but atm even though they seem to have a reasonable core group of players imho opinion they seem to be lacking the Carey/Archer/Simpson type of players to win a flag... having said that I have only watched them a cpl of times this year, so I may be missing something?

That's a big call.

Their midfield has a fair amount of potential, their backline is among the best and they have a decent ruck set up. I can see them being a top 8 side in the near future but if they want to be a serious contender, they need to find a 60+ goal a year forward.

Nice summation Jack.
Petrie could be a 50-60 goal a year forward for the next 3 years, then hopefully a couple of our young KPF's come through (Tarrant, Black, O'Keefe, Warren).........and we get rid of David Hale.

Our forward line is our weakest area-but we have Black, Warren, O'Keefe coming through.

One swallow doesn't make a summer. If your players have the same smug attitude that a majority of North supporters do when it comes to Essendon later in the year, they will certainly lose. I doubt many teams will be shaking in their boots with the prospect of playing North to be perfectly honest.

I still think you're beyond average and surprised you won a game last night, it just so happens that your opponent last night could even be in slightly worse form having lost 6 of their past 7 games...

Still amazes me also how a team could nearly concede a 44-point lead to a team with so many underdone players... not to mention being 54-points in front of the Crows the other week and nearly letting that one slip as well...

A fair bit of work to do - on and off the field... another insipid crowd last night as well although a majority of them found their voice in the second half when the Lions were making their charge :)

congrats to a gutsy win... much improved performances on the last couple of weeks, and now you have beaten a top 8 contender

Check me if I'm wrong here Sandy, we won both of those, yeah?

And even more of them found their voice when we were pumping them in the first half.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

The problem is their coach.

He has claimed all year that they are aiming for top 4 and recently said they are expecting to play DEEP into this years finals?

Their losses have been massive and their wins have been very very lucky in the end against non contenders.

Their % tells the story 75.79.

He is too rigid in his ways and won't change, hence why teams have been steam rolling them late in games.

Yeah, could learn some humility from Essendon fans. Do you have a picture of Etihad Stadium from Level 3 at 5.43pm last night?
