Re: 21K at the MCG today??

The crowd was a little dissapointing.

I was suprised at the 49k at the Carlton-Melbourne game yesterday. That's a pretty high number for such a crappy Melbourne day.

Re: 21K at the MCG today??

we got 11k against port in the dark days of 04-05.

Has anyone consierd the AFL did themselves out of 5k or so because of the crap rubbing out of Buddy ?

The other thing I would like to say is between the rserves of AFL, MCC and hwathorn everyone sits up top on a day with 21k - surely they can redeploy seats when the crowd is going to be low ?

Re: 21K at the MCG today??

Dont Hawthorn have 50,000 members... wtf? Happens everytime they play an interstate side.. if it was in adelaide there would of been 25k in a good day even if we are shithouse.

We have members who live in Tasmania, Perth and wait for it--- adelaide !

Re: 21K at the MCG today??

Abortion of a crowd today.

Anybody that attempts to justify that many people missing today is talking out of their arse. It didn't rain a single drop all day, and if rain is enough to keep you away then you're the literal definition of a fair-weather supporter.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

You quoted him saying playing deep into September right.

Deep as far in the month, so that is actually possible if we manage to make the 8 and win finals games. We will continue to aim to do so I imagine.

As others have said, what's wrong with trying to make the finals?

Can't believe this has to be explained.

Every game you have played a contender, YOU HAVE BEEN SMASHED.

Too play DEEP in the finals, you need to beat at least one contender.

To play DEEP in the finals you need to actually make the finals, which you won't.

If Scotts pre season aim was top 4, if his aim is still to play DEEP into the finals and you don't achieve that, what sort of a year has he had as a coach?

Re: 21K at the MCG today??

North would only get 12K if they played Port today.

We should get about 20k at MCG, there are 100k MCC members and a fair few AFL members who have access to MCG games. That usually pumps the crowd up by at least a few thousand even for really bad games.

Re: So... what's wrong at Arden Street?

Don't Essendon have to win a final this year according to their own Board? I mean the Board of the football club, not the collection of tossers on here.

At the MCG you can probably get 40k under cover pretty easy unless the rain is coming down sideways in those monsoon like conditions. It is usually the cold that is more of an issue than the rain. Today wasn't too bad I would have thought, yesterday was much worse.

You ask a broad question yet want a precise answer. They would range from:

If we get knocked out of the finals first week with a list that is showing real signs of development and structure, then hes had a fantastic year, and exceeded expectations.

If we win the spoon with a rabble of a list full of of has-beens, then he has had a disasterous year and would be on notice.

Did you really need to ask that question once, let alone over and over again?

I am sorry, I didn't know teams had to give up and stop aiming to win games.

I'll send an email to Brad Scott in the morning, informing him that the season is over. I'll include that even though it is still possible for us to make the finals, according to Bloodstained Bomber you HAVE TO give up after a few bad losses to top 4 contenders.

I'll also tell him to tell the media that we will not be trying to win games and that we won't be aiming to make the finals at all.

Stuff being positive, let's all be negative. That apparently will do us good.

It absolulely wee-weed down in the northern suburbs all morning. Having young kids means I have to choose which games I can attend. Given the choice of attending Hawthorn-Port or Hawthorn-Essendon in two weeks, guess which one I chose to attend?

There's plenty of people like myself who take out memberships knowing full well they can't attend every game. Having gone through the 1996 fiasco, I never want my club to be in the same situation.

Point taken and well made Zebra. What the AFL has to understand is that the non-Victorian clubs have little appeal here. Expect more crowds like today when the two new clubs are brought in.

Would you say that would account for 15-20 thousand people? Bollocks.

Re: 21K at the MCG today??

I agree totally with the OP.

Digraceful crowd, too many bandwagoner Hawks fans.

No noise when the team needed it. Most fans bag the players more than they support them.

Just not good enough Hawks fans!

& what does this realisation mean you rusted on fan type Brookes?

How bout the rules for the favoured AFL clubs, Essendon & Collingwood are applied to WA where they play in front of 30k+ week in, week out, where the Eagles games are sell outs (Crows too) ...

Take the games out of Melbourne where they are not wanted: e.g a Melbourne fan who wont travel to Etihad, a Hawks fan who needs to stay home to look after a fellow fan, the family dog, etc

Its 20 years plus that many games in Melbourne need two (2) local clubs to draw a crowd ... that'd be news to you Rustbucket ..:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:
