What's the story with Hawthorn?

Only 21,000 to an MCG home game.

Sell 4 of their games interstate already.

All this on the back of a flag only a few years ago.

Questions need to be asked about what is happening at Mulgrave.

We've already seen senior players and the coach coming to blows.

IMO the AFL needs to seize the moment and get them down to Tassie full time.

The game will be better for it.

Re: What's the story with Hawthorn?

Making some very valid points OP.. They play 4 games interstate and hardly play at the G you would expect a supporter base of 54,000 members to at least support there team in a game to get back in the 8.
21,000 and 5 thousand of them Port fans..

Re: What's the story with Hawthorn?

It was ****ing freeeeeezing at the game today. It wouldn't have taken much for me to stay home and watch the TV while nursing my health.

I guess it would be a problem if we had 20,000ish for EVERY game (regardless of weather) like the poor orphans at North Melbourne.

Anyway this is SLF's weekly baited hook at another superior team to his own. There's only 14 to go mate!

Okay I will bite!

Terrible conditions (at least before the game) and 21k is a fair crowd. Just checking back, the pies (absolute most dominate draws of crowds in the league) drew 34k against Port at the G.

I can honestly say I thought that we would be lucky to get 15k. 21k is okay, especially if you think that only 5k more went to see the Dees play the Roos in a stadium that was always going to have perfect conditions!

And could you link me to the photographic (still or video) of the "senior players and the coach coming to blow" as its the first I have heard about it!

Re: What's the story with Hawthorn?

There is already a thread on this.

It was concluded that it's all the Angry Dwarf's fault because he is a sniper.

Re: 21K at the MCG today??

Oh the irony. Hahaha.

North fans are using this as a deflection for their poor crowds.

Others supporters need to understand bad crowds occur every now and then to all teams.

But hey, North supporters, who you trying to kid.

Re: What's the story with Hawthorn?

It was a cold, wet Sunday... and, against Port. With my limited membership this is a game i'd chose not to go to simply for the fact i'd rather watch another upcoming game that would be a little more 'exciting'.

Beat you a few weeks back mate.

At least this week you doubled the 10k you got to a game against Port at the G, what ... five years ago?

Slippery slopes mate.

Re: What's the story with Hawthorn?

Pretty weak troll, SLF. You've dropped the ball lately. Your work over on LU was particularly pants. Lift your game, son.

Re: What's the story with Hawthorn?

In 2003 Hawks hosted Port at the G whilst 10th on the ladder and drew 21,000. Now they host them when 11th and draw the same. Almost the same ladder position, almost the same attendance. Par for the course.

It is not actually a bad attendance for a mid ladder mid sized club like Hawthorn. The 2008/09 attendances are gone unless or until they get back near the top of the ladder.

Re: 21K at the MCG today??

Abortion of a crowd today.

Anybody that attempts to justify that many people missing today is talking out of their arse. It didn't rain a single drop all day, and if rain is enough to keep you away then you're the literal definition of a fair-weather supporter.

The attendance was what would be expected of a mid ladder Hawthorn at the MCG against Port. In 2003 the last time Hawthorn hosted Port whilst in mid ladder the attendance was almost exactly identical. Nothing unexpected at all. The memory of the flag is fading after 18 months and attendances are slipping back to natural levels and won't bounce back unless you bounce back to the top.
