You've been watching a different off-season than I have.

While some of the delistings are personally disappointing, on the whole this off-season has been a hell of a lot more positive than I had expected.

Agree absolutely. Changes needed to be made. Got to cut the club a bit of slack on this one.

Re: Broc McCauley (2010)

Very surprising to see both the tall players cut. We have Retzlaff, Acorn and Charmo as our 'tall timber' left on our list pretty much. Considering we also lost Brennan who could play tall, that's really dangerous. Definately taking a KPP or 2 in the draft.

McCauley and Proud have both stopped me in my tracks. Though Proud showed a bit in those last few games, showed improvement. We suddenly now need some talls, and probably ones that can play right away, not ones that will take 3 years to 'maybe' develope.

Are you referring to this?

Yep. Thanks.

"Attitude problems" may be a stretch...but the comment struck me at the time as something one didn't want to hear of a new draftee.

I can accept basically all the delists, apart from McCauley. If we have a problem with Leuenberger [who says now that he played a fair bit of the season with an ankle injury, etc], and/or Charman gets injured [now that's not likely is it?] where are we? We only have to go back to last season when Maguire was put into the ruck because of a lack of resources. Perhaps the reasoning is that Clark will be thrown straight in.

But retaining McCauley would have been straightforward commonsense to my tiny mind. I note he has been invited to continue training, perhaps awaiting the outcome of the draft etc

I can also accept Austin being retained for another season as maybe, maybe he will mature as a footballer, but Sheldon??? He is one very lucky player.

Well, at least now we have some clarity on who are going to be the BF scapegoats for the year.

Sheldon is in for a tough year it seems.

It was a very uninspiring affair watching Sheldon battling as a small defender in the reserves all year.

In the brief moments he was played on ball he slowed glimpses, but then in a microsecond he'd be thrown down back again.

The club obviously sees something in him, but I really wonder what the plan is. Like Hawksley, he is no defender, and I have no idea why the club is trying to force the issue.

Pro tip: If you are a new player at a club, ask for the number of the club's biggest legend. It will instantly guarantee you an extra 2 years, regardless of performance.
Harsh TBD – I can only assume he has played the role asked of him?? – Every club in memory has had a player that the public in general have questioned why they are on the list.

I can see 2011 being a big year for SOKS… in one way or another. :o

These players should not be at the Lions in 2011:

Austin
Collier
Hanley
Johnstone
McCulloch
Proud
Selwood
Stiller

The OP for this thread. Cripes - it was controversial at the time huh?

Freakin nailed nearly all of them... :o

EDIT - ah I give up...

I don't really have a problem with keeping Sheldon and lets be honest, Albie would probably have been delisted at a lot of clubs after the career he's had so far but at Brisbane, in the situation we are in, delisting Albie over Sheldon or Austin (or Hawksley for that matter) seems an amazing decision.

You have to wonder if there is something else going on here with Albie but with the off-season training with the CEO of all people, I was really looking optimistic about his improvement this year.

Guess you've got to back Kerr though. If they have a long term plan that fits Sheldon but not Proud then I guess at least it's better than no plan at all. Maybe that same game plan saw 2 ready-made back up rucks surplus to needs (ok really clutching at straws here though:o). Very disappointed about Proud though.

Maybe Austin and Sheldon are being given a last chance or they are our sacrifices to the great GWS footy gods (saving Clark)

We can't choose who GWS take unfortunately. It's not like 1986 with every club sending their rejects to the Brisbane Bears.

McCauley not getting another year on the rookie list. You have to be ****ing kidding me. What more does he have to do.

McCulloch and McCauley both gone... who is the nitwit in the football department with the short memory? Let's go back to having **** all ruck stocks, especially with Leuenberger battling an injury at the moment.

How are Sheldon and Austin still on the list ahead of Proud and McCulloch.

My feelings exactly

The term 'sacrifice' suggests the decision is in our hands.

I can't see GWS being interested in lowly players such as Sheldon and Austin.

If we have a youth policy why weren't power and Charman shown the door they are both old past their prime list cloggers....

Power isn't what he used to be, but calling him a list clogger is ridiculous and disrespectful to a great Lion.

Charman is contracted. Nothing we could do there.

I actually feel rather pissed off about you guys dumping Johnstone, especially when far less talented players remain. This is not meant to be a troll, it's just highlighting the fact that TJ is a very talented player and has been horrible mismanaged by Voss. Yes, we all know he's unaccountable, so why not play him in defence? Turn it up Voss. He came to you in his late 20s, he was hardly going to become a defensive marvel overnight. Your midfield has been reasonable over the last couple of years but not to the extent where Johnstone shouldn't find a spot in there.

What a waste of talent. I sincerely hope he finds another home in 2011. Heck, he'd be welcome back at Melbourne.
