off my head, for me its:

cut or try trade:
collier
austin
buchanan
selwood
raines
sheldon
johnstone
hawksley
stiller
mccullough

1 more year:
retzlaff
x.clarke
staker
proud
polkinghorne
black
hanley

upgrade to senior list:
mccauley
golby
beams

keep on rookie list:
yoshiura
mckeever

cut from rookie list:
dyson

Draft best available over team needs and maybe trade a few of the above guys to gc and get some of their impressive draft picks or already signed 18yos.

Thoughts?

Thoughts? Completely unrealistic. We'd be on the bottom for the next five years if we delisted a quarter of our list this year and another sixth the following year, given all our picks are pushed out by about 10 by GC and GWS. Especially with stuff like upgrading Golby (has been injured almost all year?).

Personally I think we should start at the top. That way we clear out our salary cap and can grab some top quality players this year.

Brown - no goals last week. GONE.
Black - hasn't been performing. GONE.
Power - hasn't been performing. GONE.
Johnstone - too hairy. GONE.
Adcock - injured. GONE.
Brennan - injured. GONE.
Selwood - no one rates him. GONE.
Stiller - no one rates him. GONE.
Clark - too tall, injury risk. GONE.
Sherman - too fast for the unexpected. GONE.

A lot more realistic than some of the scenarios people have outlined I must say.

In my opinion.
Travis GONE. He did not want to continue playing midway through last year. GONE.
Stiller GONE

Its seems that we lack basic skill and speed. Surely we have a few young lads who can step up and give our mid field a bit of speed. IE. Callum Bartlett.

Rich looks very very lazy this year. I can't recall seeing him run much at all this year. Sure he is being tagged but run for f*%ks sake.

If the players we have run hard and show some passion for the club and the game, they may just surprise us all and win a few games.

:thumbsu: Great to see you wanting to hang on to Charman!

Does that mean your failure to list:
Leuenberger - big gumby who can't kick. GONE
was an oversight?

Go Lions

Go Lions

Nah I figure we need two ruckmen. That way when they both go down with injuries they can keep each other company.

Hilarious!

Great work blynd freddie

Sorry Lions Underground, but over the last few seasons I have consistently seen Lambert during Melbourne games talking to the midfield group at 1/4 and 3/4 time, obviously he was asking about their welfare and seeing if there had been any developments.

As knowing someone who works there Lambert is in charge of the first year kids coming through the club organising accomodation, uni classes and transport etc. He also works with players if they have personal issues, on going injuries issues and just players welfare in general (jeez who would have guessed) Seeing though he played footy im sure he would input any knowledge on the team when he flies away with them but he is not in charge on the midfield or how the clearance's are setup etc

Sack him anyway! I never liked the cut of his jib.

 Uni students!

That's our bloody problem! We have obviously got too many Uni students in our side. That's why we get smashed in the clearances each week. We've got midfielders who are more worried about getting their essays on Jean-Paul Satre in on time than they are about getting the flipping ball.

Tell me ... Leuenberger ... is he a Uni Student? That would explain his kicking! Just when he's about to kick the ball his mind wanders and rather than thinking about what he's supposed to be doing it's all,

That time of year thou mayst in me behold,
When Yellow leaves,or none, or few do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold...

and there goes another shanked kick, turn over and goal to the opposition.

We are in deep trouble!

Time to trade Rich too. Hasn't shown enough this year.

Brown should go as well. Injury prone and too slow.

Yeah, I agree. Get rid of Voss too. Obviously shows no sign of passion.

Banfield's hair is too red. It is distracting his team mates. He needs to go.

1 more year:
retzlaff

Thoughts?

We only drafted him in at the start of this year and he's a KPP prospect. Thoughts.. You're insane if you think 2011 is make or break for Bryce.

That's the only issue you had with his list?

i think harwood and golby will be good players for us in the future as well. dont see the ressies play being from melbourne but what about players like mcauley, a-corn, barry, yoshi & retzlaff?

i can tell you a little about these guys as i watch them almost every week.
HARWOOD - TUFF , in and under, has to work on fittness but is a real keeper if he can stay out of the nite clubs. GOLBY -shows plenty of will and should develope into a good hard ball winner, Mc CAULEY - going well , trys to do too much at times, but is a good effort player, A CORN -should be the next full fwd for the lions, but a little lazy at times, BARRY - very raw with fantastic dash. will develope into a great ball winner in the middle and up fwd when he lerns the game more. constantly kicks 3-4 goals every game. YOSHI - not too bad, needs a little more grunt in his game. RETZ - had stress fractures over pre season so has only played 5 ( limited time ) games. has been in best for 4 of them at C.H.F. he has one of the best second efforts ive ever seen and for a big fella, 195cm is very good at ground level. has the potential to kick 5-6 goals a game if the delivery is better than it has been. he also travells up to 14.5 klms a game which is almost midd field clicks. another half a dozen games in the ressies and he might be ready for the next step if a spot is avail.

thanks, appreciate it :thumbsu:

thats a great workrate from retzlaff. very impressive for a big man.

how long untill bartlett will play based on what youve seen of him this year? hopefully he'll get a game in the next few weeks.

B: Darren Milburn (Patfull), Matthew Scarlett, Corey Enright

HB: Tom Harley, Harry Taylor (Maguire), Andrew Mackie

C: Joel Corey (Power), Cameron Ling, James Kelly (Brennan)

HF: Jimmy Bartel, Cameron Mooney (Brown), Steve Johnson

F: Travis Varcoe (Banfield), Tom Hawkins (Fev), Paul Chapman

Foll: Mark Blake (Clark), Joel Selwood (Black), Gary Ablett

Int: Brad Ottens, Shannon Byrnes (Sherman), Max Rooke, David Wojcinski (McGrath)

Rather than consider who to cull, thought I might look at who were definite keepers. These are the players whom I thought were better or equal to the 2009 Premiership side.

We are still a fair few short.

Rich is developing and could fit into the team maybe Rich for Harley.
Luey needs a few more years but I think he will be able to slot into the team.
Can Rockliff raise the bar to S.Johnson capabilities
Can Hawsley raise the bar to A.Mackie level
Merrett defensively is good but attacking wise Scarlett has him covered.
Redden I think will take some time for it all to come together

Have I missed any? It would appear we need more time for our younger players to develop plus go on the hunt for a classy mid or two and small to mid half forward flanker that is not scared to kick a goal or two.

I think we are getting a little bit carried away. It is no doubt no fun watching the boys lose 5 weeks straight, however I think that there are a number of factors which contribute to this.

The first is the injury list. Drummond has shown how important he is, aswell as Merett, two massive outs who are crucial members of the side. Add to this Brennan who has been playing the best footy of his career, and the injury Browny is carrying and no wonder we are under the pump.

The second factor I believe is that our players who are not in the best 22 but need to step up are playing in a competition which is so far below AFL standard it isn't funny. Why the Lions worry about trying to pick Irish recruits is beyond me, how can they expect someone who has never played the game to play in Australia's elite competition learning the craft in the QAFL it is ridiculous!

Thirdly, The Gabba must be hard at the moment even thought everyone is trying to deny it, the reserves are playing at a different ground on Saturday, the number of injuries we have must be associated with this ground.

In terms of players to cut, I am sure most of the boys would be contracted until the end of 2011, espically after vossy cleaned out 12 players last season, so stiller and selwood etc would still have another season left at least.

Our elite players are all struggling with either injury or form, and the players we ask to step up, are playing in a 2nd rate competition week in week out. That's why it's pointless to give players 1 game and then drop them (Hanley) as we will never know what he has to offer.

We have a good side. Injuries are ruining the season. But we only need to have about 10 wins to make the finals and I still believe we will be in the top 8.

Keep the faith! Support your team!

No offence, but enough with the excuses...I thought Coach Voss recruited to enhance our depth so we wouldn't be rolling out these typical excuses...you sure it is not a case that we are just not good enough.

Yup. Far too early to make such lists. More than half a season left, lets give the guys who have started the year poorly through mischance or form slump a chance to turn their seasons around before sinking the boot in.
Not too many complaints after Round 4.

Excessive negativity is bad for the health I'm told.

I Agree. Short term thinking at the end of 2009 may well deliver long term pain as we move into the next decade.

Recalling number 4 this week and giving Sam Sheldon a game just shows how desperate we are and how, despite all the colour and movement of the trading period, how little Voss actually achieved with his trading.

On what basis is number 4 getting another game? Has he been ripping it up in the twos? Ditto Sheldon, he was ordinary for much of last year in the seniors, has he suddenly lifted his game to a new level? Rather than naming him as an emergency, Voss should have given Bartlett a run. He has got massive raps on him from my Geelong mates who reakon he was an absolute a gun at the Falcons and that Geelong would have snapped him up if they had the opportunity. It's not like either number 4 or Sheldon is going to add anything to our horridly out of touch midfield, where Bartlett just might.

On another matter, if Drummond can't get fit and stay fit we should flick him. He is no value to us off the park and his history of soft tissue injuries, combined with his current condition, does not bode well for the future.
