The cull has started today with Mr Troy Selwood who will be next??

I still love you Trav.

There are a few candidates but judging by Voss being on "On the Couch" all of guys we picked up last year are safe. Probably fair enough.

I don't know how much Trapper is on but I am assuming it is a fair bit of coin. If he does get another contract it will be heavily discounted.

I wouldn't be opposed to the club offering him a lo-salary contract plus some incentives and play him strictly as a depth player. Of course, he would have to agree to this, which is unlikely.

Matt Austin, in the games he played this year I thought he showed no improvement on last year.

Missed the second half of the year with a broken leg... he may yet have another year on his contract IIRC.

From my original list in May, I would like to remove Hanley[/I] & add:

Buchanan
Charman
Hawksley
Sherman
Sheldon

Very magnanimous of you .....removing Hanley, that is.

Now Panthera, let's get serious....after your "re-adding" of Pearce back to the "keepers", you still have twelve (12!) delistings in your hit list.

There is no way, absolutely, zero, zilch, nadir, nil chance that there is going to be anything like this level of bloodletting, even allowing for the horror season we've had to endure....it would be just too destabilizing.....especially when there is a serious chance we could lose Riska, Brennan....or both!

We don't need to re-invent the wheel (again) this trade period.

Do people really think the club will delist Raines and Buchanan with 2 years left on their contracts?

You and I (and anyone with any sense) know that it just won't happen.

Nevertheless, you know the old saying about not letting reality get in the way of a good story;)

Am I crazy for thinking that Johnstone could be a valuable player to a club with average skills (e.g. my club)?
Well if he left us he'd need to shave the mane its copyrighted.

With the crazy contract lengths offered to numerous players it is a bad time to be a fringe player coming out of contract. I only hope our List management is based on ability and not who has a contract and who hasn't.

I'm well aware that we wont delist nearly a third of our list, but in my mind they are already marked with a cross next to their name; be it this year or next :thumbsu:

Destabilising huh? no, we wouldn't want that at the Lions

But it points to poor recruiting in the past, no real plan or strategy is apparent. Too many players who are possible delistings isn't a good sign for a club.

Austin - Maybe
Collier - Will be a given another year
Johnstone - Agree
McCulloch - Will get at least another year
Proud - Will be a given another year
Selwood - Agree (No prizes for that one)
Stiller - Agree
Buchanan - No
Charman - No (unless traded which is unlikely)
Hawksley - Will be a given another year
Sherman - Trade
Sheldon -Maybe
Even the above list may see five players leave plus the anticpated departures of Brennan and Rischa, a list turnover of seven is still dramatic.

This also does not take into considertion any retirements from senior players or what may happen with Fevola.

I dont understand the desire to rip the middle out of our list, players take time to develop, and the above players that people want to cull represent experiences depth which is vital throughout a season.

A few weeks ago I would have said Stiller should go because he can't break into the team and he has a lot to make up for with that set shot he had against Freo that he screwed up but I doubt he is costing us much and over the last few years he keeps working his way back into the side so on that note I think he is a good back up player.

I would say 5-7 players will be delisted/traded/stolen

Selwood gone and it doesn't sound like Johnstone will be offered a new contract. Rischitelli and Brennan so that's four gone and Sheldon, Austin and Collier would be 3 that are at risk of being delisted but Collier could be offered as part of a trade.

Hopefully out of Rischitelli and Brennan we can get a middle to late first round pick or an early second.:thumbsu:

I would be trying to build continuity in the current group and so would keep delistings to a minimum this year. Its not a hugely deep draft and the guys we pick up are not likely to be much of an improvement on the guys we already have.

It is looking like Power will go around for another year. Brennan and Rischa look like they are gone. The wildcard I think will be if Fevola returns to Melb. If that happens it radically alters our position and what I would do.

If I were in charge of list management I would do the following:

Rischitelli - GC/Melb club
Brennan - GC/Melb club
Selwood - Delist
Johnstone - Delist
Fevola - Trade
Austin - Rookie

Beams - Promote. He has done everything he could this year and deserves it
McCauley - Promote. When fit he looked very good. If Fevola goes then Clark likely to move to forward line and Charman to second ruck. Another ruck on the main list would be needed.

That would leave us with four picks. I would want to use our first three round picks so if we got a pick for Fevola and for Brennan / Rischitelli I might look to make another move or hold off promoting McCauley.

Going this route quickly clears up any salary cap issues. Suddenly we have a lot of room under the cap to be a player next year when GWS is poaching players and player managers are looking for a payday like this year.

Quigs, I like a lot of what you write on here, but not this

Our team will finish 13th and despite the injuries and 2nd year coaching blues, there is no reason whatsoever to want cohesion and continuity in a bunch of underperforming players who can't kick, can't handball, can't tackle, can't pressure the opposition and can't follow instructions :thumbsd:

Accepting mediocrity is not what I want from my football club, nor it's supporters - I want the axe to fall on whoever cannot help deliver us back to the top 4 and I want to recruit new players, no matter what number draft pick with 2 key attributes: great kick & willingness to learn > this is what Collingwood has recruited over the past 6 seasons and they are doing well for it. Kicking is the single most important skill in our great game and the Lions are deplorable in kicking efficiency

Stiller, Collier, Selwood, Hawksley, Sheldon etc etc are not good enough, simple as that; why do you want to prolong their careers and increase the time they are holding us back - there is no reason to at all.

Stiller, Collier, Selwood, Hawksley, Sheldon etc etc are not good enough, simple as that

I'm not Quigley, but I think your post can be boiled down to this. The net result is that they are not good enough IN YOUR OPINION. I hold differing ones. By the looks of Quigley's post he holds different ones. I'm willing to bet that the club holds different ones, given I bet they don't delist everyone on your list(s) at the end of the year.

Collier I can see becoming a good enough player, and would offer him an extra year to see if he can step up. Hawksley has shown more than enough, and if he could remove the brain fades that seem to invariably lead to opposition goals (or played further away from our defense) would be a useful player. Selwood I agree with. Stiller I'm 50/50 on, as he's looked relatively solid in the last month but I'm not hugely sold on keeping him anyway. Sheldon I'm also 50/50 on. I'd like to see an extra year of him, but he seems to have regressed over the last year. Austin would go because he doesn't seem to put any pressure on to be selected.

Not to mention some of your delistings are crazy because you seem to want to throw out any key position player that hasn't made an impact within two years when they generally take longer to develop.

Fevola - Trade

Dont mean to be rude, but you all have to see the funny side in that comment.....
You will never trade Fev, he is on huge $ and a long contract....
No other club in their right mind would pick that up.....
