Im curious, those supporters of Sheldon..what position do you envision him playing at AFL level?

Half Forward flank if anything; I was impressed with a few of his moves in the semi-final but has done zilch this year - interesting to see what'll happen post season.

Last year I would have said in the middle. This year he's regressed significantly IMO so I can't say. I would like for him to be given one more year to see if it's just a temporary thing (think McGrath a couple of years ago) but I can understand why he may be in line for a delisting.

It's all well and good to want a team of very good - elite players, but it just doesn't happen. I think you'll find the majority of the great teams and just that, great teams. Even our premiership teams were all elite. We have a very talented group of very good players, but there were supported well by some good players. They weren't a team of Bartel's and Ablett's, and the Cats now are no different. They play well as a TEAM. They have a great core group of players, and the rest are just good. They fullfil their role in the team and it works.

Also, not every player hits their potential by year 3. Some take a while sometimes

No point cutting 20-22 year olds who have had 4 or less seasons in the system, we need these blokes to come good or else we are screwed for the next couple of seasons.

Do you still say that when you realise that you've got the next T.Selwood in the making even though a player has been on the list for four or less years?

I don't see what choice we have Stocka, the quality of this draft is diminished due to the GC's ability to grab 17 year olds and then all their draft picks. Vossy has turned over the list alot already, there are some more senior players who are going to alleviate salary cap problems by moving them on. I can't see any other choice. Collier, Sheldon and Austin have all at times showed that they can contribute. I guess Vossy just needs to judge whether they have sufficient development left in them to contribute regularly.

Personally there are about 10 of them including Raines, Buchanan and Fevola who I would put a line through right now but that isn't going to happen.

I agree. I think he is a smart footballer, just not sure how or where he will make it at the top level

There is an eerie resemblence to 2004/2005 at the Lions right now.....by the end of 2012 (only 2 seasons away) the following regular best 18 players are unlikely to be at the Lions:

Brown
Black
Power
Fevola
Brennan
Rischitelli

This is a massive chunk of salary cap space

The club is in a good position if we can keep the below youngsters and grab a few more over the next couple drafts/trade periods:

Clark
Leuenberger
Rich
Rockliff
Redden
Banfield
Conrnelius
Harwood
Hanley
Bartlett

That's 10 players - another 3 or 4 and we have a very good team once the "older" players in Merrett, Adcock, McGrath, Drummond etc are added :thumbsu:

The next couple of years we're basically screwed, but after that we should be on the up.

:thumbsu: but would take a round 7 draft pick from Collingwood, Essendon or Carlton only. Have too much respect for the rest of the competition.

Nah I'm thinking like a Seinfeldesque trade like when George got traded to Tyler Chicken for some additional chicken products at the Snack Bar.

Bowers lost me when they got rid of free sauce at the Gabba. It's just been one disgrace after the next from then on.

Note: Yes I am aware that it's the catering company's fault.

Assuming we don't go nuts in trade week again.

Look, my views are quite cut throat, most people know this > I would name a dozen players that are untouchable (all under 23) and the rest are on the table to be traded to gain a first round draft pick.

One problem: we don't have many gun players :(

For example, trade Brennan to whoever for a first round pick > Drummond too (probably a late 1st rounder). Melbourne will over the next few seasons develop into a monster team full of 1st & 2nd rounders. Our kids are good - another 3 1st rounders this year and we could be set up for the post Brown era :thumbsu:

If the draft is really ordinary than 3 1st rounders may not be worth a pinch of shit this year. You may be throwing away good currency. I personally don't know jack about the depth of the draft compared to previous years but it needs to be considered.

Generally 1st rounders go alright in every draft.

The top... maybe 30, seem pretty solid. I'm not sure of the depth drop off after that. I wouldn't call it "really ordinary", it just might not be a "superdraft".

I'm just wondering when Brisbane will announce its delistings, most of the other clubs already have.

End of tall forward setup...........where does that leave the lions?.....
Nope, actually reinforced. Check the forward line of Collingwood. Cloke, Brown, Dawes aren't exactly short people.

Sainters only had one forward........poor setup. Roo was being double and triple teamed. We know first hand that this can't work.
