Mainwaring's ordinary too; give him the flick...but keep Dennis - he's a legend!

Bruce McAvaney and Anthony Hudson are the two best callers at 7. Please keep them; do what you please with the rest, especially Robbo!

Dermott is quite a good special comments person at the moment. His only problem comes when paired with Dunstall and Dipper on the boundary. It becomes the Hawthorn Appreciation Society which makes we want to puke!

I have a theory on Special Comments people. The closer they are to the action the better they are. For instance, Malcolm Blight after coaching Geelong took up a position as a special comments person. His comments were always incisive and pertinent (as opposed to his match calling). This seemed to begin waning after a few years which was interrupted by his coaching stint at Adelaide. Upon returning to commentary he was again back to his previous best. I look forward to when he returns to commentary after his time at St Kilda.

I believe it is in the best interests of the football broadcaster to continually turn over there special comments people every few years with people fresh out of playing / coaching.

I get bored listening to someone like Sam Newman because although he is reasonably articulate his detailed view of the game dates back some 20 years or so. This would probably be why 7 got rid of Don Scott and Peter McKenna.

Mags,

Peter Landy didn't even commentate on the football this season, so I'm not sure of his status.

On a side note he has found a job commentating on the rowing, albiet every four years.

Without a doubt the best comintator is commetti.

Hey is the clearest and does get so excitied that he screams.

He is the best that is why he was comomintating for australia's most popular event in the olympics, the swimming.

Plus he has a biased for the dockers over the eagles

Denis Cometti gets my vote for the best voice and informed commentary without going hysterical. McAvaney is the pits.

It states in today's Age that both John Longmire and Todd Viney have been given the axe as well from the Gameday show. Apparently they were told months in advance so that they could "plan their lives". Very considerate!

That's hardley surprising - I used to cringe with embarassment everytime GameDay was on with those two jokers.

Longmire and Viney both came across as wooden and stilted in their delivery, and anyone could see they were as embarrassed as presenters as we were in watching it.

Both these truly great players deserved better.

I can't believe some people want to get rid of Dennis Cometti.

"The cork in the ocean" has a great voice and, unlike some, knows a bit about the game.

He can get a little parochial during West Coast games, but nothing like that prat Ian Robertson during Carlton games.

I remember hearing Ian Robertson saying during a Carlton call: "I love Peter Dean!". Are you f@cking right Robbo???

Could Channel Rex ditch the mountains of special comments people......how big is that comentary box anyway!!

As a Roos supporter the worst thing about the whole Sydney experiment has been the commentary team of Roos, Lockett and Bruce. Even when we're not playing against the Swans they go on for the whole game about when they played for the Swans & what they would've done. If only I could get the Tobin Bros on a plane to Sydney!!!!

Hands up who remembers this Robbo at the Park gem: "STEPHEN SILVAGNI, WOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!"

I can't understand how someone who played hundreds of games like Robbo just doesn't know the rules of the game. He argues every second decision of the umpires even when he is blatantly wrong.

Dermie is v.knowledgable of the game and very insightful, but Dermie don't comment on absolutley every passage of play - shut up every now and then. Not surpised with Drew - full of cliches and not insightful enough.

Keep Bruce though cos he's special and leave Kerls alone. Matty Campbell in Brissy is too one eyed.

Good move 7. Morphett was an out and out co*khead. So melodramatic at the most inappropriate times. Always thought his comments were uninformed and flippant. Perhaps that's why he always got the less significant games on the fixture.

Would've retained McKenna before Morphett.

The rest of the cast are fine. Although Sandy is a little over the top at times.
