We've built the depth to field a competitive AFL side and handle a usual amount of injuries. That's step one. The big step is building quality depth which we don't have. You would hope that in 4 or 5 years time, Murphy and Gibbs will still be playing really good football but be more around the middle or bottom half of our best players and not core midfielders as much. We're a good bottom side.

Anyone else peeved that the VFL kicks off 2 weeks after the AFL? When we are talking depth, it's pretty hard to assess fringe players when they ain't playing - at any level. I guess there must be a reason. I'll certainly be at Whitten Oval to see the NBs on Sunday 10th despite the bizarre start time.

Rd 3 in the WAFL this week.

Rd1 gave both the eagles and dockers a chance to havea look at heap of players before rd1 in the AFL

Someone tell me where Preston City Oval is please and thankyou.

And don't just say "Preston", I need an address.

Cramer St.

Used to have a helluva nightclub just near the station, back in the day.

Can't believe I saw Uncanny X-Men, with Bwian at the front.

"My Man" Matt Dick in the best 2 weeks in a row. Whiley & him are going ok & showing some form.

The club is better for having players not in the 22, putting pressure on those that are.

Not much good comes from a club promoting guys to senior level because there is no one else available, instead of because they earned it. Hoping we have left those days behind. I am liking the discussions and passion around the selection of the teams as we have people able to make a genuine case for those left out. It is a refreshing change.

Lachie Plowman's return game is inspiring. Hopefully he's getting the run in his legs and makes his Carlton debut soon.

Sumner, whose game relies more on running, might be on a similiar trajectory.

Hopeful signs

Our issue in previous years when we should have been pushing for finals is that we had very little depth, when key players went missing so did we. I.e Gibbs and Kreuzer out of that Perth Semi-Final (or Elim, can't remember) (don't remind me of that game, i still remember crying in the stands)

I think we're building a quality list here that is flying under even some of our own radars.

From those not in the best 22 this week;
Plowman, Jaksch, Sumner, Rowe, Buckley, Byrne and Whiley I all expect to be pushing for best 22 this season.

We're starting to build some key position depth which is quite surprising, but still lacking midfield depth. I hope we hit midfielders hard in the draft this year.

We need one more Key Forward and then quality quality mids.
