Thats the end game for the afl and free agency...theyre heading that way as it is. Free agency has and always will benefit power houses regardless of the sport

I don't think the AFL is particularly fond of free agency, but the AFLPA will keep pushing it given the strong legal position they're in regarding restraint of trade

As it stands right now - we did the right thing.
Barrett can GAGF.
Dodoro did his usual 'hard to deal with' crap and as usual he undid himself. Barrett has this all wrong.
We would have been nuts to give Essendon what they were asking for. We offered them more than enough.

I just hope we get a chance to see him play at his best again, no one wants to see a players career finished due to injury
Great player.

I am not being negative against Joe.

I am just saying we offered a very fair price for a bloke who hasnt played in 2 years. Pick 9 + next years first (which will be top 10 for sure).

Dodoro said he wanted more which was just ridiculous. We did not panic. Barrett has the whole thing 180 degrees ass backwards.

Still don’t know why it was considered a debacle. That implies that we were at fault, or we made some great stuff up or something. In reality we made the decision and didn’t lose anything from it, but did gain Dylan Stephens. It’s as close to a win as a club can possibly get without actually landing the player.

Not landing the player WAS the win. The fact he’s flying to Ireland is evidence of that.

I think we were very harshly maligned in the media and even by some supporters on here! for not doing what it takes to get the deal over the line.

As its come to known what we offered was more than reasonable with Daniher circumstances, imo we called Dodo bluff who probably thought we were all in and not prepared to walk away.

All going to plan than.....should be back around rd 16 when gws host ess in Sydney....drop in on the swans the next day to finalise the contract with the remainder of the season to prove he can play and quick as a needle jab ......in 2021 playing at the scg full time....
must be a real toxic environment at Tullamarine to go from leadership to fleeing in a short space of time.....?

"With the rest of the playing group at Coffs Harbour for our pre-season training camp next week, it presented a good opportunity for Joe to return to Ireland to check in with his specialist," Bombers' head of football Dan Richardson said.

"Joe has been progressing well over recent weeks and we hope that this momentum will continue as we enter the next stages of our pre-season campaign."

So he is just going back to get a check up from the specialist he was already seeing?

Not news.

Agree. But the more he’s in the news, the better it is for us. What was often overlooked in the trade period is that Daniher’s issue wasn’t with his club, it was with living in Melbourne. Playing under a cloud of injury and speculation over the next season is not going to make him enamoured with living in the footy bubble. The media are already putting him under the microscope and his pre-season hasn’t even got off the ground yet... imagine what it will be like when he returns to playing!

We’ll get our second look at him in October.

Barrett hasn't written a single piece since ! I thought he might be on holidays, but its turning into a very looooong holiday?
hopefully it stays like that

Probably only contracted to specific season events aka draft, main season & preseason games if you're referring to AFL website.

That way their not paying him in the 'off' season

Correct! Bet Dodo is very pleased JD is off to Ireland again, the FA compo won't be as good as we were sensibly offering last trade period.

Welcome Dylan Stephens and glad you stayed Papps :)
