Sydney will attempt to secure Joe Daniher’s full medical files before signing off on a bid to recruit the injury-marred forward.

Daniher, 26, has only more game to go before he must decide on his future after his trade request to the Swans fell through last year. While the Swans, Geelong and Brisbane are still interested in Daniher, his scan results and the specifics of his groin rehabilitation program is prized information.

Sydney won’t make a long-term investment in Daniher unless it is confident he is over the worst of the groin problems, which limited him to 14 games in the past three years.

It is a sensible approach from the Swans as they look to add some key pieces to an exciting young list that has remained competitive this season and upset Melbourne one week ago. But it remains unclear whether Essendon’s medical staff will speak with Sydney’s doctors about Daniher’s condition and any specific concerns ahead of the exchange period. Essendon is understood to be reluctant to part with any of the intellectual property surrounding Daniher’s groins as it strives to keep the star goal kicker.

It is customary for club doctors to speak about players’ injuries around trade time, but the Daniher issue is extremely sensitive as Essendon tries to re-contract the free agent.

In particular, the Bombers were able to glean important information when it sent Daniher to see a world-leading specialist in Ireland following surgery last year. It means the Swans and Lions will want to put Daniher through a full medical assessment to check his groins at season’s end before proceeding with the free agency move. That could happen as early as next week if Daniher expresses his desire to explore his free agency options.

Do we have insight into what our best offer was last year?

Imagine Dodo knocking back a top-10 pick for a couple of games in a lost season...

Gut feel is that he still wants to come and we want him provided He passes
If he is fit there would not be a list manager in the league not interested.

All that remains to sort out is the price.

He will pass and be a swan

Cant see him back flipping on what would have been agreed last year after not getting here

Simply put if he wasn’t planning on leaving there wouldn’t have been odd coach comments, he would have made statements by now unequivocally stating his intention to remain at the Bombers and there would be talk about him re-signing imminently.

The silence is deafening. I’d be gobsmacked if he didn’t leave the club.

Lions biggest worry imo

If he’s serious about getting here, he should announce it in the days after bombers last game

In the post match interview he removes his guernsey to reveal a singlet underneath with the words "F*** YOU DODO" written on it, and he announces his intention to go to the PSD to any club in NSW or QLD so that the Bombers get nothing

But that might just be me being petty about Dodo.........

As far as the medical information goes, Daniher can demand copies of all his medical records from the Bombers and give them to us. There is no "intellectual property" in his medical records.

That is very good to know. Thanks

EFA He peels off his shirt with a massive swans logo tattooed across his chest

This is my belief also. Papley made it pretty clear he wanted to be a Swan right at beginning of Pre-Season, his body language says the same and his manager has told other clubs to move on. JD's manager is open to conversations from the likes of Lions, Cats and Swans, says it all really. I reckon he can't wait to get out of there.

14 games in 3 seasons. Be careful Swans.

We were no where near giving them 1 first round pick.

Harley is on record saying that we offered them 9 from the Papley trade and a future first.
We also offered them Papley or Zak Jones and a future first
Or Jones and 9/Jones and a future first.
Basically any workable of combo of 9, 2020 1st, Papley, and Jones was on the table for Daniher last year. Obviously 9 and Papley would have been impossible, but other permutations were available to the Bombers.
