The Bombers wanting Caldwell and Dunkley means they have officially put a line through Daniher and Saad. They will use the draft picks/compo to deal with GWS and Western Bulldogs and will try to keep a strong hand in the draft.

Dodoro will posture like always but in the end he is trying to get two players into his club therefore he can't be too stubborn on players leaving. The fact that two want to go to Bomber is good for us.

They will need good picks to trade for them tho. Maybe he will be extra stubborn to get a good deal for Saad and Danniher so that he can grab Dunkley/Caldwell and retain a strong hand in draft as u say

If he is extra stubborn he faces the issue of Lions potentially walking away and then he has two players who he has promised to get to Essendon. He would have been working on Caldwell and Dunkley on the assumption that a few blokes will be leaving and they will get draft picks for them..

I can't see Daniher being at Essendon at 2021.

Pretty sure i saw something about the Bombers not being allowed to trade their first round draft pick unless they bring one in as well. Whilst that shouldn't really matter too much, it would be just an extra hurdle they need to work around. If for instance, they literally can't trade it out until they trade one in first, they will need to completely at least 1 out going trade before getting any incoming trades probably done. Will be a bit of pressure not letting them just hold their breathe all trade period this year.

Zero chance. Losing a player (who wants out) for nothing is one thing. Actually giving up a high pick to force him to stay on your list is a level of self-ownage that even Dodoro wouldn’t stoop to.

It wouldn't be solely giving up a high pick in 2020, it would be the difference between that high pick in 2020 and whatever you might be able to trade him for as a contracted player at the end of 2021.
Not saying it is likely to happen, but that is what the cost would be.

Big risk if he decides to sit out the year.
Just to say * you!

No. In the event we did redraft him he might well sit out the year. He would still be our contracted player (with 4yrs left) to trade at the end of 2021. I wouldn't think we would be interested in picking him to play.
Absolute stupidity!

If so, that speaks volumes of your culture. Quote of the year: “I wouldn’t think we would be interested in picking him to play.”
Seriously... Say that out loud to yourself again. What a ridiculous idea to redraft him, not expecting him to play for the year. Absolute. Madness.

I didn't say it's likely to happen or that it's a good thing. just that if you're weighing up the costs of different actions, us using pick 6 to redraft him isn't the actual cost. He would still remain as a contracted player who could be traded in 12mths time.
It's all a game of weighing up the "what if" options. Just like it's a really bad option for Brisbane to hope to walk him to the draft. It's not a good idea, but it's an option that could, in a worst case scenario, come about, and has to be considered in the to and fro of negotiating a trade. And if we get to that option, one of the "what if's" is Essendon re-drafting him.
If we're worried about his mental health, Brisbane making him a big contract offer but then not being prepared to back that up with an offer greater than a pick in the 20's wouldn't do him the world of good either.

And if Joe gets another injury or no teams are interested in 21 thinking it's more trouble than it's worth Bombers have thrown away pick 6 and pick 20. Fans would burn the place to the ground

No doubt they wouldn't be happy. Essendon supporters not happy. Brisbane not happy. Joe not happy. Not a good outcome to be sure.
By the way, it's not going to be pick 20. A compo pick at the end of round 1 is going to pushed back by compo picks for Williams, Crouch, and possibly Cameron, and NGAs Ugle-Hagen, Campbell, Jones, McInnes, and possibly Gulden - so possibly pick 27.
The more you look at how this draft is compromised, the more lame it looks that Brisbane would not offer at least picks 15 & 16 (likely to become around 23 & 24), or even better, participate in some arrangement where they offer Daniher enough to get Band 1 compo (eg salary dump of a player like Adams (if he were agreeable))

Don't know why NGA players are brought up when it comes to pick number. Does it matter if you have pick 20 or 25 when either way you're picking the 20th best available player.
It does to Essendon supporters. They start running out of fingers and toes.

It's saying the same thing a different way. The 20th pick in 2020 will get you the 27th best player. And they adjust the pick nos. as bids are made and matched to reflect that. If we got Band 1 compo, our compo pick 7 would become either 8 or 9 (Ugle-Hagen and possibly Campbell)

Yes... we somehow look bad because it is a compromised draft...
