WHERE TO NOW FOR AUSTRALIAN CRICKET?
Triple M

The Australian Government has today fired all people involved in the Australian national cricket scene, leaving us with a serious issue - who will lead our side (if we have anyone to lead) in the future?

Well it seems today we have found our answer - sort of... Listen in to the call or read this transcript of the conversation which lead to the appointment of Australia’s newest national coach.

Welcome back to Triple M... We have Rob from Stawell on the line. How you doing Rob?

Yeah I’m alright mate.

That’s great Rob, what do you have to say about the recent cricket saga?

Well, the way I see it, no one seems to want to touch this side with a 10 foot pole. So I’m here to throw my hat in the ring for the coaching gig that just opened up...

Haha, well Rob they might need you the way we’re going... Hold on Rob, I’ve just received news that a coach has been appointed. The new coach of the Australian cricket team is... Rob from Stawell?

ROB FROM STAWELL STATES PLAN HEADING FORWARD FOR AUSTRALIAN CRICKET

“I’m going to keep this brief.”

“Our first major test is heading over to Jamaica in a couple of weeks to face the West Indies in the first of a two-Test series. We plan to use this series as a sort of preparation for the Ashes which are fast approaching. Basically, due to circumstances there will be many different types of players getting their chance. If they take this chance, anything could happen. Mark Cosgrove may finally fulfill his potential and become the next great...”

“I’d like to announce the 18-man squad which will be heading out West.”

Australian squad: Adam Voges, Mark Cosgrove, Callum Ferguson, Peter Handscomb, Nic Maddinson, Aaron Finch, Peter Nevill, Cameron Bancroft, Marcus Stoinis, Dan Christian, Adam Zampa, Fawad Ahmed, Steve Magoffin, Simon Mackin, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jason Behrendorff, Andrew Fekete, Nathan Rimmington.

WHO WILL PLAY FOR AUSTRALIA? IT’S ANYONES GUESS...

The Australian cricket side is in dire straits. In just a few days, Australia will field a test side completely filled with debutants. Coach, Rob from Stawell (he hasn’t given us his last name yet) has been tirelessly preparing his squad for the unknown. Will an Australia C side be able to beat the West Indies? While many would say yes, the series certainly becomes a lot more interesting without Australia’s superstars, and simply the fact that all their guys go in without Test match experience. We at ESPN Cricinfo took our best guess at what side Rob from Stawell would choose to go with.

Adam Voges - One of, if not the most experienced player in the squad, Voges has found a purple patch of form and will finally get his opportunity to wear the baggy green. This is one of the few uncontroversial selections, as many saw Voges as knocking on the door of the Test side well before the allegations were leaked.

Peter Nevill - The only full-time keeper in the squad, Peter Nevill seems to be another lock in the side, for at least the first Test.

Jason Behrendorff - Oozes potential and class, one of the few remaining Australian bowlers who we believe can be threatening at Test level right now.

Nathan Coulter-Nile - While extremely injury prone, Coulter-Nile is currently fit and if there was ever a time to live up to his potential, then now is the moment.

Nic Maddinson - Coming of a solid but not spectacular Shield season, Maddinson is a player who has to be picked on potential. If anyone is capable of breaking out as a superstar player in this side, it’s Maddinson.

Aaron Finch - While many believe Finch to be a short form batsmen who lacks patience, his experience on the international scene (remember only TEST players were banned) could prove invaluable to the side.

Steve Magoffin - The 35-year-old bowler is coming off a stellar season of county cricket, and must be considered a big chance to play in Jamaica.

Cameron Bancroft - The young batsman is the only player in the squad who is currently opening for his state side, and because of this is likely selected due to the team needing a quality opener. While Bancroft may not be quite ready to make the jump, he’ll likely be granted an opportunity.

Marcus Stoinis - With multiple injury prone bowlers already being selected, it seems necessary to bring in a player who is capable of chipping in with a few overs with the ball. Stoinis has also been in stellar form with the bat, making him a good choice for the all-rounder position.

Andrew Fekete - The best of the rest in terms of bowling, Fekete more highlights a sudden lack of depth in Australia’s bowling more than anything else, a part of this team’s game which could be their downfall.

Callum Ferguson - A batsman who has long waited for his chance, Ferguson should finally get his shot at the big time.

Our XI - Cameron Bancroft, Aaron Finch, Nic Maddinson, Marcus Stoinis, Peter Nevill, Callum Ferguson, Adam Voges, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Steve Magoffin, Jason Behrendorff, Andrew Fekete.

AUSTRALIA PULL OFF THRILLING VICTORY IN FIRST TEST UNDER ROB FROM STAWELL

7349E7DD-2A49-4D6A-80EB-95816CD0FF23.jpeg
Cameron Bancroft lead the Aussies to a nail biting victory in Jamaica.

While many were unsure how Rob from Stawell’s Australia “C” side would go against the West Indies, Australia managed to grind out a gritty and exciting win, restoring faith in Australian cricket around the nation.

Man of the match Cameron Bancroft took over for the Aussies, posting two massive scores for the Aussies with 126 in the first innings and 77 in the second. Peter Handscomb was also impressive with the bat in his first dig scoring a maiden century (116) before being cheaply dismissed in the second innings for just 11 runs.

While the rest of Australia’s batting lineup was largely underwhelming (Voges the possible exception, falling just short of a half-century), it would not matter as it would be the bowlers who would win it for Australia on the last day, pulling off an incredible all round effort to dismiss the West Indies for just 117.

Darren Bravo was clearly the West Indies best in a losing effort, posting an incredible unbeaten double century in the first innings, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Aussies would steal victory in Jamaica to take a 1-0 series lead.

AUSTRALIA WILL GO IN UNCHANGED AHEAD OF SECOND TEST IN THE CARRIBEAN

Australian coach Rob from Stawell has today confirmed that he will take an unchanged lineup into the second Test against the West Indies, following an impressive victory in the first Test.

“We won, and because of that I’d like to give all these guys a second chance,” Rob stated, “while the likes of Maddinson, Ferguson and Cosgrove all struggled, I think that they all showed just enough to warrant another Test before a call on their place in the side should be made.”

The West Indies will make two changes, dropping Blackwood and Taylor for Deonarine and Cottrell.

Australia require any result that isn’t a loss to take this series and retain the trophy, before heading into preparation for the Ashes.
