Bottom line is that when riding I don't assume anything and ride with caution...I have 8 strobe rear and front lights and seems to have kept me out of trouble the past two years.

Just don't ride in front of me in the middle of the road at 30 km/h and we're fine.

There is a bike path that I use most days in Coburg that is actually on the footpath as the actual road is a very narrow road - While that keeps bikes away from traffic coming behind them, it means that cars coming up from side streets are supposed to give way to the bikes as they come up their T section. Ofcourse many don't and drive straight over the path up to the road without looking - I anticipate this for the most part, but even then sometimes it gets hairy.

Just the other night some big 4WD comes flying up the to path which results in both of us slamming the brakes to avoid hitting each other. After I stopped I gave a sarcastic clap to him to let him know what a great job he did reading the Give Way signs and the like.

Turns out that was a mistake as the nut job flew off his handle then preceded to follow me along the road shouting all kinds of abuse at me before he finally turned off after maybe 500 metres or so.... I didn't respond to him and tried to ignore lest I inflame it anymore, but it shit me off because in reality the guy nearly killed (or seriously injured me) yet he was the guy going off his handle...

also these dashcam videos just make me think how much other crazy shit happens on the roads that isn't caught on tape... .

A mate of mine's son is sitting in remand at the moment for nicking a car, trolling the rozzers, usual boy racer stuff, but his case was all over the news because the car he stole had a dashcam, and there was footage of it all. The news programs must love them, cheap, sensational footage.

I have been thinking of getting one for a while tbh, have been in a couple of minor accidents before (not at fault) and did have one of them do a runner....
There are some absolute nut jobs and horrific drivers out there.

I don't get why people care so much about cyclists. It's just not worth getting angry over just relax slowing down for 30 seconds because you are behind is not a big deal

If everyone was more patient the roads would be a lot safer.

There is some absolutely horrific driving at the moment with Christmas.
