The 1997 GF was just replayed on Seven. God there were some spuds in the side. Yet we won back to back. Thanks mainly to a champion in Darren Jarman, two 20 year olds in Andrew McLeod and Simon Goodwin who at the time were just kids. As were Johnson and Edwards. And a coaching genius in Blighty who plucks Ellen out of no where to start him at Full Forward with Mods out.

I don’t have an issue with retaining MacKay but I do have an issue with it being tied up before a new coach is appointed, before trade week (as anything can happen, have we really explored all options?) and then released on Grand Final eve. If we were proud of it we wouldn’t of buried it!

It sends the wrong message on so many fronts.

Anthony Rocca was commonly regarded as the worst to play 200 games - which should give you an easy answer on where Mackay sits.

Really pathetic and sad when no one can defend him in here and justify this decision. Usually a supporter or two will outline what he brings in detail to the team and back that up with stats.

The only stat I can think of at the top of my head is that he has the same number of Brownlow Votes as Fogarty.

Normally you will get a pocket of supporters that will support the Clubs decision, but this feels almost unanimous in our feelings about his 1 year contract extension.

More so because he is a lock for Round 1.
