If you're referring to Sam Reid, he's played less than 100 games and I think that's a crucial point

He's been on the scene for ages, retired and then they got him back. He is a very very average footballer and hes playing in a GF. Jason Castagna has a premiership medal and will likely add another..... most Richmond people think hes garbage.

Again, if we are sitting here and weve wasted more than 3 or 4 injury affected games on him then yep but I dont think he will.

Don’t forget that he can mentor others on how to be a failure. That’s a key cog.

If he plays 3 games because we have been severely hit with injury or someone needs a rest then I dont have an issue. If he plays because we think he deserves it then I do

But Jason Castagna and Sam Reid are limited game role players. They plug holes for a few years until you upgrade them. Reid has only ever played two full seasons and Castagna three seasons.

Mackay has averaged 19 games a season each season except for 2011. That's eleven full seasons give or take a few injuries

I would have absolutely no problems whatsoever with Mackay if he only ever played two full seasons of football for us and was otherwise cheap depth

No I dont, like I said in the event of these kids getting hurt or needing a spell he can plug a hole for a week or 2. No issues with that whatsoever

Do all clubs have players that have got 100-200+ games despite being sub-standard? If you go far back in the history books, maybe you'll find examples for but they always coincide with a club being middle of the road to s**t at that time.

All clubs have the type each year, but they don't have long careers. They fill a niche for a year or three, then are replaced by someone that can live up to a higher talent. We're going for year twelve with our spud.

Nick Suban from Freo is the only half-similar case that comes to mind, but he was delisted at ~27 years old a few years ago and played under 150 games.

I think he's been delisted twice and re-rookied once or twice as well. Mackay got a 4 year deal.

I don’t even hate the guy, look at his body & look how hard he goes at the ball, it’s not his fault he keeps getting picked. He’s busted his ass of for us week in week out and when it’s his turn to go he always goes, no one can deny that
I’m a MacKay basher but it’s honestly not his fault, just gotta support him for another year, it’ll be minimum wage.

what I don’t wanna see is him playing 22 games, we need to develop the scholl’s hamill’s, mcpherson’s back there.

Most concerning thing about this revamp is that we are getting rid of “depth” players like Greenwood/CEY etc and keeping your Atkins, Knights, Mackay etc.

It’s going to be a very soft mid tier group

I don't think they are keeping Knight, and Chris KNIGHTS retired years ago.
