That perfectly sums up my partner. One of the things I love most about him is just that, well-balanced and incredibly respectful of everyone he encounters. And the fact that he has absolutely no ego at all. He has certainly been responsible for bringing me back down to earth over the last few years.

Ironically enough, I know someone else (and I adore him) who comes across as very feminine (but straight), however has an extremely masculine way of processing things, takes everything on face value. He thinks exactly like macho guys pretend to think.

One could say that women are just as egotistical, but that their drive typically tends to be channelled in different directions to men. Despite the breakdown of gender roles, men and women are still valued in very different ways in society.

Correct, but when channeled in similar pathways, the female ego is by far more vicious and unforgiving when compared to males.

Never a truer phrase uttered. If you have an event planned and a girl says, "we need to talk about x" you can guarantee bad shit is about to happen. If a guy says it to you it's more likely to be "my car is getting fixed, can you give me a lift" or something similar.

Nicky, I'm sure your a great girl and there are many others out there like you but my god, you are the exception. Just like the stereotype that a person is born with 10 fingers and 10 toes, not fair to those that are different, but good enough for purposes of discussion.

They did an episode of How I Met Your Mother based on a similar sort of situation.

Robin was annoyed by her co-worker, Becky, who would act like a little girl to attract guys' attention. Barney set himself the challenge of landing a woman by acting like a little boy. This was a dismal failure until Barney amazingly met a young woman who liked this. Unfortunately, she was something of a psycho and refused to leave, and Robin had to come to Barney's assistance by pretending to be his outraged wife.

The three that I can never understand are:

1. Why do girls go to the bathroom in pairs, trios or larger groups? I can understand if they are just fixing their hair or make-up, but surely girls who go in there to use the toilet would prefer have privacy.

2. The toilet seat conundrum - What is the problem with putting the toilet seat down?

3. Depressing movies, TV shows and books - Why do women like such depressing reading and viewing material? For example, I would prefer to be staked out in a lion or crocodile enclosure than read or watch My Sister's Keeper, but many women of various ages love this book and movie.

We often claim we can't understand the other sex. So, what are the things that divide us gender-wise?
An example from last night. I do most of the cooking and last evening the scenario went as such:
I had laid out the ingredients on the kitchen bench for a frittata. SWMBO for the last 39 years, surveyed the spread.
She: Have you worked out what you're doing for dinner?
He: Yep.
She: What are you cooking then?
He: Frittata. Sorta seafood-ish.
She: (still looking around at the ingredients) What are you going to put in it?
He: (Pointing in turn to each) Eggs, cheese, onion, shrimp, tuna, cream, silverbeet...
She: Are you putting the silverbeet in it?
He: (Eyes to ceiling) UM. I did mention 'silverbeet', Dear.
She: Oh....
He: ....ah, (sensing yet another well-laid trap) Why do you ask?
She: No reason.
He: (Feeling of revelation..... and dread. Mostly dread!) There just HAS to be a reason.
She: How are you going to cook the silverbeet?
He: (Lightbulb moment) You want it cooked a special way, eh?
She: No.
Pause
She: Just steam it first because I like my silverbeet well-cooked!
He: Der?
Why the tip-toeing around the issue? Why not just "Darling, could you just make sure that my silverbeet is cooked through this time?", but women don't attack a problem directly like men do. They scout around it, weighing up a series of alternatives and propositions concurrently. This infuriates 'bloke' who just wants to solve the problem. That's what blokes do. We are fixers.
We don't understand 'womenspeak' any more than they really understand 'blokespeak'.
There are a million differences ranging from map-reading and gift-giving to driving style and finance matters.
