"AFL match review panel member Jimmy Bartel says Melbourne’s post-match medical report indicated there was sufficient force in West Coast defender Will Schofield’s strike on Clayton Oliver’s to warrant a suspension.

Honestly, they should go Jobe on his ass and strip his Brownlow for that.

1) He wouldn't be suspended for diving

2) Guarantee club doctors aren't risking their jobs by making stuff up in official medical reports.

Doctors don't have to make anything up, there won't be any structural damage or probably any visible damage.

So the medical report will be based on what Oliver said to the doctors at HT.
Doctors aren't magicians, they rely a lot on the patient to assess the damage (pain rating 1-10, can he move his jaw etc.)

Will be a fascinating hearing but I can't see it being reduced with a medical report and what Oliver has already said.
Do they use precedence and get Schofield off as there has been similar acts getting only fines recently?

Different set of eyes/brains on this one will probably make a difference.

Not sure what tact they take but probably should start with 'REALLY?!'

They look at the vision and make the obvious call.

Who cares what Oliver says?? Shouldn't have any bearing on the result.

I agree that bullying is an issue on the internet and hope that most people aren't going over the top in their slandering of the player.
My issue has been with the MRP more than the player.

Although he could probably make it easier by not antagonising people on his social media (D. Martyn, a few profile pics that draw the spotlight).

And I don't understand his age being an issue, if 19 is too young for a person to cop some spotlight maybe we should raise the minimum age that a player can play, or ban young players from being on social media to protect them? (not a serious suggestion, but you have to grow up fast when in the public eye like he is)
Interesting post. You start out by agreeing bullying on the internet is a problem then spend the rest of your post defending it.

He is loving the attention. If it was really affecting him he could quite easily not make it his profile picture and slag off famous people himself.
He probably made it his profile pic because of all the people claiming he wasn't even hit and if you're referencing the Damien Martyn thing he was responding to a direct tweet from Martyn. He didn't go looking for it. Someone has since told me that apparently Martyn was responding to someone else that had tweeted directly to Oliver and his reply inadvertently included Oliver's tag as well so maybe he didn't mean to and to his credit he didn't go on with it after Oliver replied. Maybe 'famous people' should learn how to use social media.

Have been defending him from the start. I don't think Schofield deserved a suspension as it was clearly an accident but the pillorying of a 19 year old across social media for daring to fall over after copping an elbow to the chin he wasn't expecting has been nothing short of disgusting.
I think if he wasn't hamming it up so much on social media he probably wouldn't be copping so much.

Every footy follower knows that doesn't deserve a week but the fact the rules are what they are does not mean this is all Olivers fault.
Schofield did it.
Oliver is a 19 year old kid ffs - how mature were you when you were 19?
I knew enough not to cheat when I was playing under-8's

It was hardly a direct tweet. It was a reply all to a video of the incident in which he was tagged. I don't get what you're going for here. Oliver has a right to slag off anyone, but nobody can slag off him as he's young?

So we fine Oliver for staging?
A few things here.
He gets nothing and Oliver gets done for staging instead.
He gets a fine and the whole 'hits to the head' being a suspension goes out the window. I'll be annoyed as Hawkins got done for less.
He remains guilty and gets 2.

I don't see anything other than my last point happening.

Imo Schofield gets a week, so should have Parker as neck is high (not that I agree but those are the rules now) AND Oliver should get fined aswell.
He hit him high intentionally but not hard enough to go down like that. Both should be in trouble.
However that won't happen obviously

Bullying is an issue, but there are easy ways to not give someone an excuse.

Home robbery is an issue, but if you leave your door wide open and and make it obvious you're not home, don't complain about being robbed.

What are you referring to?
I guess you have missed it all. He:
- attacked Damien Martyn about an out he got 3 years before Oliver was even born
- changed his profile pic to a still of the incident
- changed his profile pic to one of him all wrapped up in bandages with the sick symbols from snapchat

Reply all/direct tweet. Call it what you like. Oliver was tagged in. I don't get what you're going for here. Oliver isn't allowed to respond to people slagging him off because eagle supporters have 5kg of sand in their panties because their man has been hard done by for throwing his elbows about?

Nice straw man. I think we're done here.

I've already addressed the first two. Didn't know about the last one but maybe he's trying to have a sense of humour about it. I don't know the guy and neither do you. You seem pretty emotionally invested in the whole thing though.

And how many opponents stand there for a second or 2 then drop like they were hit by a car?

Well just this weekend you have Tuohy after minimal contact from Ballas.

Times have changed fellahs. Football is not a game where off the ball contact is tolerated. There is zero reason for Schofield to have hit out. There is zero reason for ballas to have engaged with Tuohy.

Er, I am not saying he can't respond. I am saying you can't get your knickers in a knot about Oliver getting attacked, when he is going on the attack himself to some pretty innocuous comments.

All I said was he was hamming it up on social media, which is why he copped more grief, I don't need to know the guy to make that call. So, I am emotionally invested, when you have 5 times the posts on the subject I do and it involved me team, not yours? Interesting conclusion of yours.

My nickers are most certainly unknotted. You have 5 posts. I have 7 (now 8). Nah you're not emotionally invested/hysterical about this at all.

I remember why I unsubbed this thread now. Just full of eagle supporters chucking tanties at the humanity of it all. It's pretty simple. Don't throw your elbows around. Hopefully Schofield doesn't get 2 now.

And I'm out. Again.

Considering one of our own players got suspended, I'd say the emotional investment is understandable. It will all blow over in a week but in the meantime I don't see why Eagles fans can't whine about it.
