Wouldn't say they dive 'constantly' but that flop from Danger was absolutely pathetic.

It was, you're right, but if you asked Don Pyke I bet he would rather Greenwood have not even bothered going near danger in the first place, not worth risking it.

Dumb by greenwood also

I agree, though i suspect he didn't know Dangerfield was that much of a staging, flopping soft**** to flop about so badly after an innocuous hit.

I realised the Crows were not good enough six weeks ago, i still haven't changed my mind. Neither team will play off in this year's Grand Final on that form tonight.

Sit comfortable first and have beaten every other team in the top 4. If Crows aren't good enough to be in the hunt, who the hell is??

At least we have high schools here. Geelong is not a place I correlate with literacy.

Even last night Sloane, danger and selwood won 17 free kicks between them and were 2nd, 3rd and 4th for contested possessions.

Free kicks count as contested possessions. So 6 of Dangerfield's were from free kicks. 6 of Sloane's were from free kicks. 5 of Selwood's were from free kicks.

Their numbers dont looks so great when they arent constantly being kissed downstairs by the umpires.

Same reason Oliver, Vince, Viney and Lewis do it.

Or any other player at any club
Oliver, Vince and Lewis are guilty of diving for sure. I've got to call you out on Viney though. Never seen him take a dive in his career to date.

He reacted less to a broken jaw in the VFL while in high school than most players do to a standard bump. Doesn't deserve to be named in this thread.

watch Dangerfield's knees go before he's hit

He's just getting up and unexpectng contact so bracing for it once he notices it's coming, how would you react? Probably didn't warrant a reversals but take that up with the ump not Dangerfield.

Classic thread.

What concerns me is 9 pages in and no mention of Hawkins? A bloke his size constantly flaying his arms about.

Dangerfield is ok. His dive against Greenwood was a bad look no doubt, but umpires should just pay 50m for diving. Not get sucked in. Very clear Danger is starting to lean back and exaggerate it. 'Bull dozed'? Well that comment made me choke on my fruit loops!

Selwood? Yeah terrible. Just goes into full dive mode when touched and looks to the umpires in a way that suggests 'are you kidding me' obviously do that 10 times a game you'll get 5 frees.

seriously suspend coaches? Have you thought this through

A coach's job is to select players and coach players.

In the case of Joel Selwood, the coach has failed Joel by failing to rectify his poor technique where he buckles at the knees, leads with his head and even draws head high contact with his own arm.

The coach should have rectified his technique or ceased to select him as it places an employee under his care in a dangerous OH&S situation.

I think people still see this issue as some attack on the cats or attack on Joel when it is truly a serious issue. Guys like Diesel Williams and Johnny Platten attest to the serious nature of head high contact.

It will be an interesting test for Industrial Manslaughter laws to assess in the future.

The afl seriously need to look at this tactic used by Selwood he isn't alone but definetly the main culprit

It's becoming quite a blight on the game

There is no rule change required we have a ducking rule in place it's just an umpire interpretation more so than anything else

After all the fuss this week about Sloan's concussion I was surprised that the umpire paid him a free for ducking into the Harry Taylor tackle. Marked the ball, looked behind him to see Taylor about to tackle, dropped the knees. You can understand why Sloane does it as it led to an Adelaide goal.

hmm...........this is a non event but Danger turned into the contact rather than bracing side on. Danger drops the knees rather than cementing the foot.

It's a non event but he was staging for it

I get really frustrated watching the cats, especially against my team. (Last week sucked pretty hard).

But here we go:
- dangerfield gets so much attention because he's a great player. Opposition players think harassing him (bumps and taps and niggles) will stop him. It doesn't. The less it works the harder they try. After a while he sucks them in, will lull them into taking their niggle up a gear to 'dumb' level like greenwood did last night.

Don't blame dangerfield - greenwood did something he didn't need to do. He wouldn't have done it to any other player. He got sucked into dangers star power. Dumb thing to do. It didn't have to happen, his team already had the footy.

Last week danger got cleaned up (fairly) by Roughead and cannoned into (fairly) by hodge. No other player would be the same after that but this guy kicked 6.5. So what did greenwood think he was going to achieve? Dumb footy, really dumb.

Selwood gives me the shits. He pleads to the umpires constantly and creates infringements against himself. It works. Himbeing hard at the footy does not eliminate the fact he also deliberately plays to get the umpires flavour. But it works. And when players from my team do it and win a free kick in front of goal a lot of fans cheer pretty damn hard.

Geelong are better than any other team at plying the umpires. Sure - it's not the most respectable way to win a game of footy but it's damn effective. It was true of the dogs last year and their exploitation of htb rules.

Other clubs shouldn't whinge about it - they should get better at dealing with it.

The Crows are way off the mark also. Both games this year were wins for the home teams Cats by 22 at SS and the Crows tonight by 21 at AO. If they meet at the G in a final the Cats will slaughter them...

Adelaides MCG form is good whilst you've lost to Collingwood and Essendon there and YOU'RE the ones who will slaughter them? Please.

(Imo it'd be a true 50/50 game)

Diving originated interstate, more so out of WEST and SOUTH A. Was never a problem in the good old VFL days.
The only diving back then was done in privacy.

yes he exaggerated the contact so what? The Adelaide player didn't need to Go through his path.

Why are Geelong supporters always so defensive over this issue. Yes other teams do it, but none as bad as Geelong. They're just used to getting their own way playing at Kardinia Park and fail to adapt to more 'neutral' umpiring away from there.
R18 buddy. We've played 4 games this year at KP. But who am I to disagree with such logical, informed posts?
