A possible explanation as to why Knight retaliated as he did.

That photo shows selwood on the ground on his back and an Adelaide player attacking him.

It also shows selwood's hand near Knight's face - but in no way shape or form is it conclusive proof of eye gouging. In fact it works against knight in a big way unless you're arguing that selwood likes to launch vicious unprovoked eye gouge attacks at innocent bystanders while lying on his back.

I hate selwood as much as the next guy but this is ridiculous

Riley Knight....he is the serial pest who is there to get under an opponent skin ala Haydn Ballantyne.

He does it very well, he managed to suck Ryder in earlier in the year with an elbow to the back and ran off crying when he got his comeuppance.

Will be an asset in the finals for sure.

Not concerned about SPS nor his rep, plays the game hard and plays it fair.
He embellished the contact, but the contact was there.

I'd prefer the league targeted the issue of players deliberately feigning high tackles.
