After another look, it looks like the fist missed, but the elbow might have glanced him. That said, I still don't think it deserved the carry on from Oliver. The fact that the elbow connected even as a glancing blow instead of missing may simply ensure Schoey gets 1 week instead of a fine. Oliver still went down rather meekly though, and that should be looked at, perhaps a warning.

People must realise this. If you are keen to criticise others or their teams for player behaviour, you must be equally if not more content to receive comments and banter.

For decades we as an Aussie Rules (not AFL) community have bagged soccer for staging, simulation and diving. Certain scribes and publications like to sink the boot into soccer, so it is good to see them publicise Olivers actions. *code war!!!

I do not believe "toughness" of a player has bearing on whether supporters defend or not. Generally I feel supporters/members who see the fault in the player (in this case staging) will cheekily admit "oh yeah, he wouldn't be happy with that, he'd be the first person to put up his hand and apologise. but ya know, did you see *insert other teams player here*?". Like in politics, someone who only sees the Right will defend their partys policies to the hilt and blame the Left. But if the Right has stuffed up, they shrug their shoulders, dust it off and attack the Left" (and vice versa)

Yeah I am. He got him with the point of his elbow. I'm sure he didn't mean to but he did. Oliver wasn't acting anything. He was genuinely pissed off but what's he going to do without getting reported himself? Can't even jumper punch anymore.

Except you can black out and have absolutely zero symptoms of concussion because you weren't actually concussed. Like I said, once the brain hits the skull, it only needs to be a soft tap. He's not unique here. It's the same for everyone.

That doesn't make sense. The brain shuts down because it suffers trauma, no matter for a second or longer.

Of course. I am not arguing otherwise. I am saying you can black out and still not have symptoms of concussion. A clip to the jaw does that. Players have been knocked out and still passed concussion tests to get back on the ground. That's not to say they weren't concussion but it's all to do with the severity of the trauma. Like I said, I've been clipped and blacked out for a second and had zero symptoms there after. That's nothing to do with toughness or whatever. Once the brain hits the skull, it shuts down. As I also mentioned, he may have dived, but I'm just trying to highlight that falling down, blacking out, doesn't necessarily mean a significant concussion. People seem to understate the significance of a clip like that. It doesn't take much for the brain to move around, especially bevause the jaw is separate from the skull and the reaction from the head is delayed so the jaw skull and brain are all moving in different directions. It's easy to criticise him for staging and overreacting, he may have been, but I do genuinely believe it's more likely the clip caused a half second black out. It really is such an insignificant amount of time that you don't realise it's happened.

People seem intent on convincing themselves that he dives. The jaw is the worst place to be hit for the reason I mentioned above. A direct hit like that to the head isn't as bad because your skull is the hardest part of the body so your head moves with the force. When your brain realises the hit to the jaw, the head moves and the brain follows. It doesn't take much force.
