It absolutely worked and swung the momentum in their favour. More teams should flop

Absolutely. If you can suck the umpires in, then you may as well.

^^ Fabio Grosso apologist over here. ;)

haha far from it.

I just think the incident has been blowup to make it look way overboard just because its Dangerfield.

Can't wait for a thread to start next week over something bigfooty thinks he exaggerates.

Soooo......like #FreeKickHawthorn?

The Crows are on top, but the top four doesn't mean as much anymore, looking at those last four games, they may not be on top for very long!

Salty much? Pretty sure we had about 4-5 different personnel from when we played you at the Cattery. And we were better balanced for it.

Yeh, lots of wishing there.

Well by all means tell me at this point who is likely to replace us at the top? (Understand we might have a form slump but given we are 6-2 against top 8 sides I doubt it).

"The toughest player in the competition"

Hmn... Yes it really is time that the AFL reined this in. Its pathetic and a blight on the game. Selwood falls over more often than a toddler learning to walk. Are there other clips available of similar instances?

"The toughest player in the competition"

Really interesting when you look really closely at these clips and the reactions of players around them - they can tell you a lot about what truly went on. Watch the Geelong player (sorry can't identify - maybe someone can help) who comes in and bumps Reilly Knight after the 'fall' - its a very half-hearted bump - possibly in response to a 'staged dive'?

It is an horrific look at the game. But Geelong seem to have developed a way to play that draws umpires into a net , its like they train to gain frees. I saw Selwood twice last night , after the whistle blew, either calling for the ball or holding it and looking at the umpire as if it was his free, well both occasions I remember , because my son was having a violent outburst of fury at our TV set, he said look at him he thinks its his every time a whistle blows , on these two occasions it was going (amazingly???) to Adelaide, but he plays with the expectation that he'll be free kicked, and on most occasions he is given frees.
It is how ever low a level, it's a level of cheating, yes.
That he has perfected and he is a blight on the game for that.
Paddy just gets looked after.
Remember I am not saying these guys are not great champions , but they are not respected either Selwood for antics,
Paddy for being looked after, and he is don't argue!
Their courage was never in question, but no one should play to get frees, and Selwood does every week.

Selwood thought it was his free because he was being held, like he is at every stoppage. The umpires chose to ignore those ones, however they did pay some dubious ones elsewhere.

yes he exaggerated the contact so what? The Adelaide player didn't need to Go through his path.

In this case it was a non event but it does highlight the mindset of players these days. The mindset first is to stage for a free.

Be it Gray, Wingard, Selwood, Danger or other.............staging, diving and cheating is now the first thing in players minds. Do we really want that to be the case?

have to agree, watching both Selwood's flick their heads back and fall to ground only to get up and yell at the umpires if a free kick isn't awarded is a blight on the game.
When Chappy, Corey, Bartel and Ablett played the game, there was none of this shit. They won the hard ball fair and square and they played it fair (albeit roughly).
Hawkins is another embarrassment. He throws his arms in the air as if to say "I was held, give me a damn free kick ump". What's worse, he actually stops playing and does that which allows the defender to easily run away under no pressure at all.

Kids see the 'brave' acts of players like Selwood and then try to replicate it themselves. See an oncoming player? Lower the head and draw the free. Get brushed in a contest? Scream to the umpire and act like you are entitled to a free. Get light touch in back? Jump forward like you have been hit by a truck. It's terrible sportsmanship and bad for the game.

no we don't but as i've said it hardly works and it makes the player look like a massive noob.
