Apologies if this has been mentioned earlier, but they highlighted it tonight on Bounce. Steve Johnson did the big flop to try and win a soft free kick, Greene has seen him hit the ground so he runs in to "fly the flag", delivering a jumper punch. So, as reward for Johnson's pathetic effort, he's got his team mate a suspension for a jumper punch. :)

When I saw this thread got bumped I assumed it was about Mathieson and not some Melbourne supporter having a cry over Oliver's treatment. Mathieson was absolutely disgusting today, no talent, just a cheat. He is a blight on the game.

Rhys Mathieson is a germ. He was doing it from the very first game he played and has continued it ever since. His first thought when he gets the footy is trying to win a free kick. He's worse than Joel Selwood

TBF that would have hurt and he didn't stay down for long

Bull that would have hurt. It was a slap across the chest and he threw his head back. Just call a dive a dive. Guarantee you wouldn't be forgiving if Oliver went down from that contact

If I don't get all misty when players whom play the game like Mathieson get knocked over and that makes me a shit bloke, then shit bloke I am.
And champ, I'm not trying to defend shit.

Lol you'll definitely need to defend that use of 'whom'

Any excuse for Toby Greene is bullshit. There aren't many more selfish things in footy then a bloke who continually costs his team free kicks and suspensions because he's too childish to control his temper.

Pretty simple solution:

After each game, any obvious dives are shown on a screen with the player there to see it, and everyone present is allowed to call them out for being a pussy.

Couple of public emasculations and players will go 4 rounds with Tyson before they go down.

Even though he got straight back up while Oliver kept holding his mouth and stayed down on the ground for ages? Righto.
Oliver then brushed a tag for the second half over in Perth and won his side the game.
How'd Sam fair?

Every club will defend their own. In my opinion Matheison is the worst by the length of the Flemington straight, but I doubt many Brisbane fans will pot him.

the game is ****ed. i saw powell-pepper stop on the weekend because he accidentally threw the ball - but the umpire didn't call it. so play continued on. but he's a 19 year old growing up with this new, ****ed AFL where kids think you get done for throwing even though it's just one of a thousand wildly inconsistent 'rules'. instead of playing to the whistle they play to what's been hot in the media this year. it reminds me of how diving has become normal for these kids, they have only grown up with diving, accentuating contact so the umpire plays in your favour. i think i just hate AFL

I find it amusing that Carlton supporters are up in arms about Mathieson exploiting the rules and interpretations. If he continually does it, is it not in your best interest to figure out how to get around it at training leading up to the game?

Learn to tackle and it's not a problem. Looks like the Blues didn't turn up till half time to play.

This thread is exclusively for divers and SPS took an almighty 9.5 on the Olympics board for that effort. Everything from the head flopping backwards to the body falling gracefully, it's a wonder that he was able to keep playing footy after that hit.

Yeah to be fair Mathieson plays for high free kicks but he hasnt been a diver so he doesnt deserve mention in this thread.

Yeah absolutely agree. He always does it and sometimes it irks a few of my fellow Lions mates that he has to resort to it as he's a god damn good footballer without having to do it. And now he's developed a reputation that will forever shadow his career. Hopefully he can reduce some of it as he gets older.

We are seeing the same issues with Oliver. Hes antics have taken away from how good a player he is which sucks.

Oliver whacked Schofield and then went down like shot after receiving one back. SPS received a backhand strike out of nowhere to the throat and chin and was stunned.

To compare the two is laughable

Not laughable at all. SPS is a disgrace and his actions we pathetic. He's a diver, simple as that.
