Most successful club at a national level

Obviously Essendon*, Carlton, and Collingwood have won the most VFL/AFL premierships of any team, but most of these were at a suburban level.

The greatest teams in the country have only clashed for silverware at the old Championship of Australia, and the Australian Football League since 1990.

So while this unfortunately rules out most of Essendon's and Carlton's combined 30 VFL premierships (not to mention Port Adelaide's 36 SANFL premierships), it allows us to examine which clubs have officially achieved "the best team in the country" status most frequently. These national titles allow us to compare clubs objectively without the "Who would win out of 1988 Hawthorn and 1988 Port Adelaide?" pure speculation.

So without further ado, I give to you:
