Just a thought.

Okay, we keep hearing that every team sport in the world has signed up to WADA, except for the big US sports, because they're private leagues - NBA, NFL, MLB

So... if for instance MLB isn't part of the code, why was there such a big kerfuffle about players using performance-enhancing drugs? Did they have their own code that was being broken, or was it considered "America's Pastime" and so people were shocked / abhorred to think it was happening? Wasn't their testifying to Congress and everything?
Now to be fair--the Cleveland Indians enjoyed a renaissance during that time frame. It was widely suspected that many players on the Indians were heavily involved in steroids. I mean Jim Thome hit 8th in our lineup and he was a .300 hitter with 30 plus homers. In fact, I learned after the fact through people I deem reliable that those teams were way ahead of the curve in regards to having had an "unofficial" program ala Essendon.

I can tell you...back in those days we didn't care...we just wanted the team to win. Not saying that was right, just being brutally honest. Now if I had been a good enough player to have been drafted and knew the ticket to the majors was doing the same---I honestly have no idea what I would have personally done.

It really was a very dark period of time when you look back---the game was not better for it in hindsight. Professional players in any sport should be good enough to not have to resort to those things---I do understand the attraction and there will always be those that do it---but I think all these games can be entertaining without having to cheat like that.

Didn't belong in the BCrouch thread. So I'll put it here.

As I said, IMO losing quality players has cost us a premiership. If you don't think that is too a high cost to pay than you probably shouldn't be posting on a football forum. Stick to sipping Latte's in the stands and chatting about the next episode of The Kardashians i.e. become a Port Power supporter.
I think if we had retained those players it would have increased the probability of a flag no doubt.

Maybe just pedantic but I think it's almost too easy to escape goat to glory 'if only x'

We aren't very good at being accurate with our thinking.
Since not winning flags stirs primal emotions, almost a bitter yearning for what's owed to us you get all kinds of think-shortcuts happening. It's possible latte guy who is heavily into AFL but only a half rate crows supporter would know better than the hardcore crows fan who's also heavily into footy.

I think our brains try to make it simpler than it is?

We're the mighty crows - the mighty crows certainly would have ten flags if not for those meddling recruiters with bags of cash.

Or if not for the lack of moral fibre in young people these days who must be with their families.

Or if not for those treacherous Victorians.

Or that conniving Ben Cousins and his team mates gathering around for an ice smoking session.

It's like saying -
IMO your inability to gather the most succulent Apples without having them stolen by clowns that leave smaller apples in their place cost you the most succulent Apple cider prize.

No one here, looking at it logically would agree it's a positive to lose those guys. We all want them - since we can't have them some of us may do brain tricks to make the loss more palatable. None of us are above this.

Note to all - never get a Border x Cocker Spaniel. Never had a dog so unpredictable and mentally unstable.

And it looks like the new scorecube at TSA is a lemon - doesn't do live player stats and it malfunctioned in the last 30 seconds of the game. Doesn't seem to like teams scoring 100+ points
What was with that? As soon as we hit 100 points they went from 87 to 187. They couldn't fix it for the rest of the game. I have just got home, has anyone heard the extent of Randles injury?

From what I could see, as soon as a team scores 100 points, it puts 100 next to each team (as Illawarra's score corrected itself whenever they put Adelaide score back below 100). It was isolated to the scorecube as the old score board in the north stand had the correct score. Given they spent $500,000 on the score cube you'd expect these issues to not happen.

Oh man the keyboardist at my church this morning is giving me the absolute shits!

Background: most weekends I look after the song words for my church (I joke that I control what people sing).

This morning we're singing a new song, and not only is the song not in our system, there's no lyric sheet for the song either. So I Google it and put it up. I have it set based on how they're rehearsing it.

Cue keyboardist (who looks like Janey from Not Another Teen Movie - and yes she's worn glasses, a ponytail and overalls, albeit not paint covered, some mornings) who insists the chorus is worded differently, so I correct it with her guidance.

Band sings it differently. I adapt it to how they're singing it. Cue Janey who corrects me on how it's done. Band sing it the way they rehearse it during the service. I pretty much follow their lead.

Preaching starts, and cue Janey to remind me how the chorus needs to be done correctly. Love I'm only following what you guys are doing on stage.

If I didn't want to turn it into a public spectacle in the middle of the sermon, I would've so done a Naomi Robson-style outburst on her!

Great win by Angelique Kerber last night. I neither follow nor fully understand tennis, but that was the best tennis match I've ever watched. It's heartwarming to see someone fulfil their dream by upsetting a champion.
I can't believe serena is allowed to wear an outfit the same colour as the ball.

I have a question that doesn't require a thread.

What happened with D Glass? Just read the eagles feed that he is back on board with West Coast. Any reason why he didn't work out at Adelaide?
His "part time" work for us consisted of about a week of work in the pre-season. He's studying full time with a family, he was never gonna jump over to us full-time and working for WC is much easier for him to manage.

It was basic steroids being abused. Thats how cocky they were against the system, they truly thought they could get away with the easiest drug to detect probably because they were arrogant enough and probably even told by some they were too big a star to suspend. In the end were they suspended because the league wants to maintain a clean image or were they suspended as part of a PR campaign to appease public outrage? I tip the latter.

On the plus side it appears as though we've finally had a coach leave us to what appears to be a promotion.
