As long as you ignore the fact that Danyle Pearce did.

Unique Name, I'm doing it now.

Or the fugged up voting system!

So what is so bad about the voting system?
Apart from the fact that you are unhappy with the result?
Come on Clem - we all have a fairly good idea who our best were. Hardly a person on this site that wouldn't have had Tendai and probably Lachie in their top ten. So, yes I do question a system that puts a warrior like Tendai outside our top votegetters.... especially when he was behind the likes of Pearce, Sutty and MJ. There have been quite a few strange tallies over recent years. IMO this one is an example where they just plainly got it wrong for whatever reason. Personality clash? Too high expectations? It's not the end of the world or anything. Dunno what the reasoning was - but it was a ridiculous outcome.
Would be extremely interested to know where he sat in the players award voting that Fyfe also won. Prepared to bet he wasn't down the list on that one.

I prefer Occam's razor in this case.

Five coaches are each victimising Mzungu and Neale, so that they don't get the votes they deserve, but unfairly favour Pearce, Sutcliffe and Johnson.
Despite heaps of evidence to the contrary, our players and coaches have personality clashes or issues of favouritism, raising concerns for the future of the club.
This suggests that the five coaches are not doing their job;

Or

You, and a few other Bigfooty posters either have a warped view of what players do in a game of football, or have very short memories that don't last the course of a season.

Neither of those are correct. Neale and Mzungu both had very good seasons and deserved to finish higher up in the Doig. But you can't fit everyone in. Neale more so deserved more recognition. He was one of our best performers in both finals.

I agree that Mzungu had a very good season, but think Neale's season could be more consistent, and this is probably what he will strive for.

But the votes are made by five coaches after each game. If they don't get it right, then there is a problem.

The first choice I presented was the suggestion made by BullDocker that the outcome was "ridiculous" together with theories they suggested to explain it. The second choice explained why they differed so much that BullDocker termed it ridiculous.

Neale's young and can improve sure. But he was third at the club for contested possessions and 2nd for overall disposals. He also had 30 + touches in both finals and particularly dominated the game against Port.

Maybe because he's young they didn't focus on him so much.

Or maybe his role involved more than getting lots of possessions. You can bet that the coaches will examine his game more than anyone. I just don't believe that a group led by Ross Lyon would be unprofessional in how they allocate votes.

Sumich probably writes his votes on a bread wrapper in crayon. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I get what you're saying C.K.
But for the most part, a player such as Dawson plays his "role" well every week. So my question is: is the medal awarded for playing the role or is it awarded to a large degree on actual brilliance? The players that filled the first 5 or 6 spots seemed to fit into the latter category. So then I find it hard to see how Tendai or Lachie were not assessed there and about too?

MY OPINION (and quite a few others) - for whatever reason, the match committee assessed those two way too hard and got it wrong.
Don't know if the result has a bearing on contract bonuses. But if so, Tendai may have some reason to be disappointed.

Tendai and Lachie were probably 11th and 12th. I personally thought they had better seasons than Danyle Pearce and Spurr but oh well that's how its played out. I'm sure we will see them in the top 10 next year, in particular Lachie who has so much more improvement in him.

It is strange that Lachie and Gu didn't finish top 10, but i would imagine they would have been sitting in 11th and 12th as mentioned above.

I think this voting system is perfect as it grades every player on their performance and doesn't just favour the top players for the day like the Brownlow or AFLCA award does.

I would love to know the decision making on giving votes though and the criteria they are assessed on from all coaches.

Hypothetical:
If Pav kicked 1.5, Neale got 22 touches playing on ball, Spurr kept his opponent to 1 goal and Danyle had 6 i50's...

Assuming the votes are given on a scale from 1-5 from the 4 coaches, this game could be:
Lyon: Pav 2, Neale 3, Spurr 4, Danyle 3
Sumich: Pav 3, Neale 2, Spurr 3, Danyle 4
Stone: Pav 2, Neale 4, Spurr 3, Danyle 3
Kirky: Pav 2, Neale 3, Spurr 4, Danyle 4

Totals
Spurr 14
Danyle 14
Neale 12
Pav 9

If this is how the voting was judged was all season, you can see how a crap game from a player can affect their total.

What isn't really covered is how and when the votes are given. Is it straight after the game or once they have done their analysis or looked through stats.

Every coach wouldn't get a good look at all 22 players out there.

To those who attended, what was the deal with Sylvia?

The local rag is reporting he was violently ill and had to be carried out at around 9:30pm before the winner was even awarded? Food poisoning or grog related? Sounds like food/gastro related at this stage.

Was on the 6PR rumour file yesterday morning as well. Didn't name him though thanks to Baz who stepped in and said they shouldn't name the player.

Probably around the time Danyle Pearce was named at #9. I would have had the same reaction.

There is a nasty strain of gastro going around Perth. A couple of people from my work have had it in the last month. It may have just been that.

I gather he became a bit clammy and pale when Ross started talking about a brutal preseason
