The priority selection breakdown allows Carlton, Collingwood, Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle to pre-sign one player who has an association with the club. Adelaide and the Brisbane Lions can each pre-sign two players, while Greater Western Sydney has the option of four.

The eight clubs also can each list two rookies (players new to the code or who have not been registered in organised football competition over the past three seasons).

The rest of the clubs' player lists will be completed at the AFL women’s draft in mid-October.

Lethlean confirmed the Giants and Dockers would each be granted an additional priority selection to compensate for long-term knee injuries to their respective marquee players, Renee Forth and Kiara Bowers.

Canberra Capitals club legend Jessica Bibby is throwing her hat in the ring to join the GWS GIANTS for the National Women's League foundation season.

Bibby had been one of the more prolific basketballers in WNBL history. The games record holder's career has included five league championships, national representation, and even a stint in the WNBA.

But the creation of the NWL has the now retired star basketballer aiming to play the sport she truly loves by taking part in one of a series of athlete search programs hosted by the GIANTS.

"I've grown up playing footy, it's probably been my first love my whole life having grown up in Melbourne and being a mad Carlton supporter.

"My earliest memory is running around kicking a footy with friends, I've never completely forgotten about it."

On Saturday, Bibby tested her football skills in Sydney at the GIANTS' come and try day for women active in alternative sports

The_Wookie - The draft is opening today, with the AFL soon to post the rule and nomination forms online.

Latest details here - http://www.[NB: girlsplayfooty doma.../womens-draft-nomination-window-open-all.html

Draft day will now be October 12.

Thanks for the link.
I didn't realise that players could only nominate in one state draft. If a woman was prepared to move state, they would have to make a choice as to whether they would get selected in their home state or another. You wouldn't want to be the 22nd best player in WA for example.

Edit: that's what the free agency period is for after the draft, so that players who miss out in the state they nominated can be picked up by another club. But that's still a risk, because the lists are quite likely to be full by then.

Is Kirby Bentley still playing? I know she did her knee a year ago, but she was such an impressive player.

CARLTON is considering lodging a complaint with Victoria Police after the “theft” of sensitive recruiting plans for its women’s team.

The Blues were rocked over the weekend by the discovery of a list of their recruiting targets posted on an online fan forum and then Facebook.

The Herald Sun understands a picture was taken of a list of prospective recruits written on a whiteboard inside the club’s administration base.

Carlton Football Club is currently conducting an investigation with a view to lodging a complaint with Victoria Police to ensure those responsible for the theft of the Club's IP with respect to recruiting and its women's team are prosecuted.

Those who subsequently promulgate this sensitive information may also be subject to action.

Crows board posting that they think there will be an announcement today that they have picked up Erin Phillips. She wanted to be a Port player, but I do not see them getting a team until after Erin is to old to play. Huge pickup as I suspect she will be there best player if her body holds up, she is getting on a bit now and has had a few injuries along the way.

Confirmed... Erin Phillips is a rookie signing for the Crows. She'll return to playing basketball after the national season.

I believe GWS have another 2-3 priority picks up their sleeve.

IIRC they were given 4 priority picks (the most of all teams) plus an extra as a replacement for Renee Forth.
