Food & Drink The drinking thread

You won't find it in the Guinness Book of World Records, but Andre the Giant holds the world record for the largest number of beers consumed in a single sitting. These were standard 12-ounce bottles of beer, nothing fancy, but during a six-hour period Andre drank 119 of them.

;)

A bit of a specialised catch-all thread - I know inamedthegiants was talking up Pirate Life to me, so I'll throw Riverside Brewery out there if anyone's looking for something local to the Giants while also being a great drop.

Feel free to throw anything and everything in this thread, as long as it's beverage (not Luke!) related.

(Mainly because I'm really enjoying Riverside's Under the Milky Way and want somewhere to shout its praises.)
Might have to try some of this Riversides you speak of. All I have tonight is Pure Blond in the fridge. Still, I might go and get one now that you brought up the topic of beer. Love a good quality single malt scotch whiskey myself.

Im a cider man myself, much to the ridicule of my wife, although we do find it hilarious when we order a beer and a cider and the bartender give me the beer and her the cider.and it will happen every time

I prefer cider over lager, though I love a good ale or stout :)
Tooheys 5 seeds is a good cheap option, I prefer Bulmers though.

Fav beer by far is Saltram's Pepperjack Ale but unfortunately they either no longer make it or I just can't find it.
Others are Endeavour Reserve Amber Ale, Coopers Best Extra Stout, Little's Creature's Rogers & Fat Yak Pale Ale..

Though my favourite beverage is Monkey's Shoulder, neat with a splash of ice ;)

Ichabod Noodle and I enjoyed the pubs of Edinburgh where they sold single malts. Quite enjoy a Laphroig

(I'll let him tell the story though...)

Bit too peaty for my liking. Bit of sweet tooth, so love things like Auchentoshan three wood...mmmmm!

I'm the same re: peat. We went around Scotland on our honeymoon and visited Talisker and Glen Ord. The former really opened my eyes... and made me realise what I didn't like. Absolutely amazing location though. Dalwhinnie or Glenfiddich isn't too bad, but I'm not much of a scotch drinker. My dad is though, so I've tried a bunch of exxy ones on his account.

Mrs General is a Cider lady to and loves Rekordling and James Squires Crushed Apple Cider.

Same with mine. She's gone off Rekordlig after daughter #2 as too sweet, but Hillbilly and James Squire and Monteith's and Small Acres are all great bets.

Cider is probably my safe #1 drop, but beers are just so varied I enjoy exploring the wild and wonderful world of them.

Other than that, fortified wines, liqueurs, sweeter wines and then various spirits are all eminently drinkable. I have a sweet tooth so there's a bit of bias towards those at times.

Southwark premium my all time favourite. Sadly defunct but loved by many. Hopefully will make a comeback. Typical South Australians, no business sense. Thank god for Coopers when I visit these days, as draught at least.
Enjoy Boags, and James squire options. Fat Yak best option at my local. Drink Rum in winter.

I like the sweet ciders, the rekorderling strawberry and lime is a fav, Bulmers pear & 5 seeds sweet are also popular

The Laphroaig story Ellie Aquitaine wanted me to tell...

I need to preface it with the information that if given the choice I would choose Irish Whiskey ahead of Scotch - cleaner, crisper, triple distilled - and I drink it on ice.

Person we were with: You should try Laphraoig, it's it's really good.

Me: OK
Goes to the bar.

Me: A Laphraoig on ice please

Barman: No.

Me: What do you mean, it's sitting there on the shelf. I can see it.

Barman: I'll give you a Laphraoig, but you're not getting ice.

Me: But I like drinking whisky on ice.

Barman: I don't care. It's Laphraoig. You're not getting ice.

Me: ooookay

Barman: Look, you're foreign, I'll let you put a couple of drops of water in it. Just a couple mind you, but I'm not happy about it.

Me: ooookay

So I got a Laphraoig with about three drops of water in it - but the barman really wasn't happy with me.

And I would agree with GWS_Tragic and dlanod that while it was nice, it was a bit peaty for mine, but as I said, I'm an Irish Whiskey drinker (and a Bundy Rum aficionado) but the Irish whiskey doesn't have a peat flavour.

So just be careful how you order Scotch in Scotland. You may just cause offence and the customer, apparently, is not always right.

There is a place in Alrxandria call Archie Rose distillary. Its the only distillary in Sydney Metro.

Make theor own Whiskey, Vodka and Gin.

Also have a really smart bar with a massive selection of Whiskeys to try

Single malt, and i love to try loads of different ones.

But i always seem to come back to glendfidich 12yr
I once many years ago shared a house with a starving artist who wouldn't paint without a drink. Never forget the morning I found him drinking Glenfiddich with Fanta, that was my queue to grow up and start getting serious about life, so it never happened to me.

Im partial to Vodka as well, any old stuff with Orange (yes I know its so 80s) Russian standard is usually in my cupboard but when drinking neat Grey Goose or Belvedere (kept in the freezer)

It was cheap bunderburg spiced rum, but surprisingly nice

I've already got them saved as somewhere to check out. There's a gin distillery on the Central Coast too that I'm yet to visit.
