The game is run by a fanatical gambling country ....quickly being followed by Australia ...20 over game was brought in to aid gambling in India ....more games, more gambling opportunities

Decisions being made at an International Level that is not in the interest of the future of Cricket IMHO

Read somewhere that Satchin whats his name, has only played something like 7 tests in 5 years ......India hate Test Cricket
Tendulkar retired years ago & rarely missed a test. ;)

But yes the Indians & their bookmakers money are controlling world cricket & I have no doubt the IPL is rife with fixing. I have my doubts that the Ashes is being fixed though.

cant imagine Australian and English cricketers would want to ruin their careers, they would get paid well and would have no need to throw matches, you would hope so anyway

Exactly ......that's how many Tests India are playing .....SFA, they don't want too

And if the games most Influential Power Broker hates Test Cricket .......where does that leave the sport ?

Yes the Ash's draws crowd and viewers .....but i remember a time when every ball of every Ash's series in England, was televised "live" by Nine .....now it's on SBS and coverage of other tests will reduce, due to lack of interest ..leading to reduced revenue from TV

Agree .....more likely the poorer countries where Cricketers are not paid as handsomely

Not sure if you're taking the piss or live in a different location

SBS are not showing it and 9 are showing it all

India are playing nearly more Test matches than any other nation. Under the current ICC Test championship, which I believe is over 3 years, only England (34 tests) have played more than India (32). NZ (32) & Australia on 31 with Pakistan & Sri Lanka. South Africa & Windies well back on 26 tests.

More likely to be T20 or ODI specialists not playing tests.

However, we can never assume as Cronje & Azzharudin were well thought of & wealthy test captains... until they got greedy.

There are a few issues I want to add:
- Smith doesn't bowl much these days, because there's a risk of muscle fatigue/injuries, which in turn might affect his batting standards. I think he's setting his sights on becoming the best Test batsman rather than a good batsman who can bowl well.
- following on from the above, due to the physical wear from bowling (during a match or long-term), it's very hard for a bowler to perform well with the bat.
- Starc and Cummins, and even Mitchell Johnson (retired) are/were all capable with the bat, but their bowling had an impact on their batting for sure.
- from all the above, this is why we rarely see a "true allrounder" ie. elite batsman with elite bowling standards. Our expectations of a "true allrounder" should be more "B bowling with B batting" or "B+ batting with B- bowling"
For mine though, it is just the piss ant amount of bowling an allrounder contributes, that Smith could easily cover. What did Mitch Marsh bowl today? 7 or 8 overs? Surely Smith could take that on and we play an extra pure batsmen.

Marsh's bowling isn't good enough for us to trust him with anymore than 15 overs in a day, and thus I think he is surplus to needs, while not offering much in the batting.

The whole all rounder thing is just a waste of time IMO. We should just bowl a batsmen/part timer if need be

That is obviously is accurate .....but given Tendulcar (whatever his name is ) retired in 2013 ....how many Tests did India play 2008 - 2013?

I've acknowledged my knowledge has dissipated .....but hasn't most of the match fixing culprits / incidences been in Test Cricket?

Tendulkar loved playing test matches - played a record 200 (over 24 years) & leading runs scorer of all time, so think you have him confused with someone else.

Have this on my bedside table. Not bad. The Indian bookies are terrible. The point made in the book is that it starts off innocent. In India it can be hard to tell if its genuine fan appreciation or a lure for future favours and culturally at times it can be impolite to refuse too many invites

Those incidents I mentioned were before T20 existed.

T20 IPL is effectively funded by dodgy money. Some may argue it's more scripted entertainment than sport.

Spin bowling and wicket keeping roles would be the best opportunity for a woman to legitimately play at a high level in a men's team. Both involve skill more than strength

Twelve man, er, non gender specific person.

This would be fine when the team fields...but then they have to face 150km/hr when the team bats! We might be seeing plenty more concussions!
