I think Heffernan is better. In my opinion, Heffernan provides better disposal, better run and better endurance, allowing him to run with fittest of midfielders. On top of this, Heffernan gets more of the ball than Slattery. Heffernan's lack of possessions was probably one of the prime catalysts for his ommision but looking at Slattery's stats over the past two weeks, a mere 13 combined, Heff seems to have the wood over him there as well.
He's not that great down back though is he? I can remember that game when he was tagging Bucks and doing a mighty job until Bucks went forward, Heff didn't know what was going on. Besides that, Slattery is alot younger and I would like to see him hold his spot so he can improve.

So do you want Slattery to be a tagger or defender?? If you want him to be a tagger, then Heffernan is far better than him. If it is a small defender you are after, then NLM and Welsh are far ahead of Slattery.

As donsman4eva said, for the role of tagger, Heffernan is better, it's irrelevant to this argument as to who the better defender is. Essendon seem to have ample small defenders any way with Mark Johnson, Welsh, McVeigh and Lovett-Murray all capable of filing the role.

Slattery may be younger but that alone shouldn't be what holds his spot. Slatts could certainly improve at Bendigo as well as his offensive game needs the most work. Bendigo is the ideal place to work on that.

Both, why can't he be both? I'd want him to be in the team as a utility, and his role could vary from week to week depending on the match ups. He doesn't just have to stay in the one position his whole career you know.

O Donnell started the same way in the back pocket, playing blanketing roles before progressing to midfield tagging roles and then productive midfield roles, I see him in the same mould and just hope he turns out the same.

This thread is meant to be about dyson and how bolton-like he is becoming :D

LOL, well he did have a shocker. Although I noticed after his performance last week everyone else was very quiet about him. He deserves to get droppead after tonight though. Cole and Slattery also had shockers, so he might retain his place. Doubt it though.

He had 44 mins on the ground - how can he prove himself at all - he doesnt deserve to be dropped he deserves a chance thats all - donsman4eva u obviously like dyson but ur wrong on this occasion - play him a whole game and see what he can do - all these people gettin on his case - typical supporters baggin players let sheeds run the show and what happens happens - for **** sake

Mate, you must be kidding if you are preaching to ME about Dyson. But he did have a bad week. He might be saved by Houli, Campo and Cole also having bad weeks, but he does deserve to be dropped. When he was on the ground, he played poorly. He got 2 of his 6 in the last 5 important minutes, including his goal. He was there at the end with fresh legs, but he was missing for the rest of the game.

Yeah lets give him more time and games to prove himself. He's only had 6 shockers this year.

Maybe we should bring back Bullen, Haynes, Mcallister and Cupido for next year and put them on the ball with Dyson and give em 22 games to come good.

I'm sure they will.

kelvin you must be a gun. all you do is bag him. cant do much more then 6 possies and a goal from 44% game time.
plus 2/3 of that time in the back pocket.
your a wan ker that shouldnt be allowed on a computer.

You are another Dyson lover.

What is it with you guys? Whats the attraction?

Why can't you realise that he is not going to make it and is not part of our future.

44% for 6 possies. The reason he wasn't on for the other 50% is that he was giving us nothing like all his career to date.

Going by the above stats he would have got 13 possies for the whole game. Wow.... great return for a midfielder against the worst side in the comp at the moment.

You Dyson lovers are just plain clueless.

What has that got to do with Dyson and his ability or inabilityto win the football. Maybe Grant Thomas you could venture back to the St Kilda board if you have nothing to add here, he never said he was better just that Dyson is not up to AFL standard.

Just trying to work out if he was one of those 40+ men who still wear a football jumper to the game, which I believe he would be.

Bye for now

Keep talking Grant, the more you say the more we all realise you are separated from reality, now go back to school before you get caught wagging.......

So you judge a player by how many stats he gets in a game footy. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, he played in the back pocket for a portion of his 44% of game time. To me a back pocket player is to stop his opponent 1st, then worry about getting a touch.

I think you should be looking elsewhere to get rid of players before Dyson. Camporeale is to old, Jason Johnson is past his best as is Mark Johnson. Dyson is still only 21, so I would be keeping him in before those particular players.
