She looks terrified
That was her routine from her first jump. Writing down a scorecard of the competition the whole way through. She was eccentric but a classic.
Eleanor Patterson (5th)was unlucky, no misses up to 198cm sitting in first then just lightly clipped 2 attempts. The girl who won looked gone at 196cm then hardly missed after that.

Botswana just won only their 2nd ever medal in the men’s 4x400.

Yep. They were saying she is pretty religious too, leader of her youth group.

I think she was starting the clapping, what looked like saying a prayer with her palms up and looking to the sky and then yelling “come on” before taking nine big steps and over the bar. She’s very consistent.

Same thing in between runs, she’d be scribbling in the notebook, writing on the back of a uniform shirt with the scorecard, and then lying on the ground with her eyes closed or staring at the sky and talking, apparently to no one (praying?). She looked so joyous and so focused at the same time. Didn’t consult the coaches or talk to other athletes or anything.

Also has a bit of scripture written on her arm, John I think they said? I can’t find what it was now but something about a “courageous heart born in pure love” or something? Whatever they quoted in the coverage sounded prettier than what I can remember now.

Obviously a very powerful experience for her.

Truly interesting sort of person.

Now that the Olympics draw to a close...we turn our interest to the Paralympics. Keep an eye out for our cousins boy, Jaryd Clifford (he is in the Nike ad) who is running for Australia in a few long distance events. 1500, 5000 and the marathon (I think). Visual impairment.

He was a regular as a young lad on SEN OX's show about 10 years ago. He ran in Rio as a 17 year old and finished 7th in a few events (I think his time in one event would have him right up there in the able bodied race). Since then he has set a heap of Australian records and world records. He ran a marathon 6 months ago for the first time (wasn't in his plans) and broke the world record by 2.5 minutes.

I also have have a soft spot for our table tennis players (both Olympic and Paralympic) as I have had a bit to do with a fair few of them over the years...especially in previous games. Keep an eye out for Millie Tapper who was the first person to ever represent us in both the Para and Able bodied competitions. She should do well.

Got Silver. I don't know much about him but it appears he was a dominant Paralympian for China before representing us. It would have been a very tricky match for both actually. A left hander coming up against another lefty. Left handers power shot (mainly forehand goes into the right handers backhand) which the right hander will have less reach, gets a bit cramped, can't open up on as much and does not get as much practice against. It is normally a great advantage for a left hander. But coming up against another top lefty would be a bit uncommon.

Since I watched a bit of the Olympic dressage, thought I’d give the Paralympic dressage a go.

First one out of the gate is riding side saddle due to cancer paralysing her left leg (the horse responds to a stick tapping the flank on that side and a foot on the other).

Thought it was a really neat solution and it’s nice to see it at this level given how niche of a skill that is for both rider and horse, would be a darned sight more difficult than riding astride.

Similar for boxers - southpaw advantage is lost against another southpaw.
