Bermuda 🇧🇲 with their first ever gold only their 2nd ever medal

Great swimming again this morning for another gold.

Jess Fox coming on nicely.
Know nothing about the sport but that difference between her and the second fastest is ridiculous

Maybe I'm a wet blanket but I'm a little over the Titmus memes/jokes. She's an incredible talent and deserve more respect than what essentially boils down to "hehehe she has Tit in her name."

I think I’ve only seen one of those… Facebook? Didn’t realise it was widespread

I've seen a few, it's just childish really isn't it?

Dunno. Maybe I'm losing my sense of humor.

Jess Fox bronze was a phenomenal effort. I've always thought in races like that they should take the best time over the course instead of resetting for finals.

Similar to how F1 qualifying is done. I think they change the course from heats to semis but don't from semis to finals.

I don’t really like it either, but my sense of humour differs too 🤷‍♀️

I haven’t really seen it much though. I also haven’t spent a lot of time in either the olympics board or on facebook/reddit though, which is probably where that’s being shared.

Commentators calling her Arnie is bugging me. Bit like the discussion about commentators not calling Atu Bosenavulagi by his correct name, a different name like Ariarne is too hard to pronounce (or they are pushing the stupid Arnie terminates rival angle 🙄 when it doesn’t even fit her personality)

Yeah I think Arnie comes from the Terminator thing. Which I think I read it on the ABC website and they acknowledged, whilst pushing it mind you, it didn't suit her.

It’s a tough sport, need to be physically fit and technically perfect when you are dealing with water going everywhere.

Her Dad did another great job commentating that event and knows from personal experience the difference between 3rd and 4th. The poor lady who was 3rd but had to move off the podium at the end looked gutted.

Wiki sorta tells me he was a little be screwed in that his peak years were the years it wasnt an Olympic event.

Bosenavalugi being called Atu by BT is a bit cringe, it's just his first name it's not a nickname. Possibly laziness, and a lack of standards from the producers. Weird too, because he'll happily say "McDonald-Tipungwuti" when the situation calls for it, which is far longer than "Anthony".

As far as Ariarne Titmus, her parents, her coach and her teammates called her that too when they were interviewed afterwards. There might also be an element of 'haha Terminator' but I think ultimately it's just a short form of her first name.

We also have Ashleigh "Ash" Barty, Kathleen "Katie" Ledecky, Lance "Buddy" Franklin, Patrick "Danger" Dangerfield, Robert "Dipper" DiPierdomenico, Brian "BT" Taylor. There are a lot of nicknames in sport generally, especially for those who are familiar or notable to the audience, either by talent or appearance.

Why women get first name nicknames and men tend to get last name nicknames (not exclusively, but a general trend) seems to be a cultural thing 🤷‍♀️

We should get a medal. I'm wary about expecting anything though, we have been burned before.
Porte not riding the Giro or Tour this year, no Ganna competing when he's pretty much the only one who rivals him, WVA being tired after the road race. He should get it
