Rumours of intrigue and espionage abound.

Essendon has done a deal with the devil, the AFL, hence the abundance of protection for girls the ilk of Hird, Lloyd, Wallis *& Co who seem to contravene any number of rules in matches yet still are protected.

What sort of deal have the Bombers done with the AFL??????

They are goddam cheats, it is the only explananation for some of the advantageous factors that worked in Essendon;s favour throughout the season and during the course of games.

Goddm blessed and it won't continue - you'll have to earn your flag this year.

Any opinions?

So who's afraid of the Big Bad Bombers ?

doh !

Far from afraid.

A juggernaut built on substance rather than favour would be a concern, but watch Essendon footy, watch the politics of the AFL.

The Dons get away with murder - all the time.

Watch the Grand Final and the string of unexplainable decisions that went in its favour.

The Essendon Football Club has had its run.

No injuries, no problems, no suspension even though there were at least five examples of favourable treatment meted out in its favour.

It wont happen again.

2000 presented no challengers.

2001 will see Carlton, Brisbane, Melbourne, Kangaroos all improve markedly, and the luck will not run with the Bombers in such excessive proportion.

Roll on 2001.

Surely players who dont even run at the foty such as Hird and Lloyd will lose the treatment they receive that make them look such significant contributors to the side and overwhlem the efforts of the real champions, the Barnards, the Bewicks, the Wallis - they represent real class.

The deal where North get $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ from the AFL just to play in front of their family and friends in Sydney would be better ($250,000 per game)

North - hands out one year
- crap the next

BLADE - you dill.

North were paid because the AFL wanted a club to play in Sydney - simple.

Paid to promote the game, but it was merely a grant, we still had to make money from the games held there, and in one case didn't - didnt see the AFL cough up any more cash.

So it was a case of a simple business transaction - nothing more, nothing less, nothing untoward.

And the word innovation wouldn't come to mind when you support a club with a silver sppon in its mouth.

It is hard to believe that anyone could exceed Carlton's reputation but by gee the Dons have surpassed them well and truly.

Commissioners who cheat with Essendon backgrounds and a Board that is a wonderful puppet for the AFL - it all seems to make sense.

PESSIMISTIC

The alternative response, one that wreaks of intelligence and some understanding of the real world.

A reasoned response, the Colonial deal against logic does make sense - hence favourable treatment given the investment the AFL has made in Colonial.

MMMMMM - the plot thickens.

firstly, i cant believe anyone using the mighty kym hodgeman name (the assistant at the mighty bays) could talk such crap ! The afl is all for evening up the comp so why would they help essendon dominate further ? You idiot !

------------------
Essendon - The greatest club with the greatest coach in the league ! Carlton- absolute hypocrites who accuse others of being cheats only for it to be found later that carlton are the "serial salary cap breachers" as quoted by our president, haha

As a business deal - what a waste of money
Innovation? - Can't get anyone to support you in Melbourne, let's invade Sydney(and what a success that was) Canberra here we come (f**k you few loyal Victorian supporters- sad really)

You are correct that the others have to improve markedly to reach the level of Essendon though.

Not for us .. and it is typical of a close minded individual with a distinct lack of vision.

Fitzrroy said f&*^ you by going down in a weak, whimpering mess, and the merger with North would have been best case outcome for both clubs.

I am proud of our club and its attempts to establish new markets - you probably laughed at night footy too you dill but now your tema plays almost as uch of it as we do.

So have a little think - sometimes you need to think outside the square to survive.

I want to see that and so too does our Board, which does a magnificent job.

Give us your resources and I tell you, you wouldn't be within a bull's roar.

Greg Miller - sought after by the AFL - stayed.

Why - loyalty, strength and innovation the fabric our club is built upon.

Politicking, grandstanding and pure volume of support - what you have in abundance.

The USA of the AFL - geez I hate septics, almost as much as Essendon.

HUH???????????????

I'm South Australian, and a Port supporter, so I have no feelings for Essendon, but I do not believe the AFL "want" one team or another to dominate.

Injuries just seem to be cyclical thing, one year you're lucky, the next you're not, but I never wish injury on any player.

I believe you'd be better off to concentrate on your own team, try your best to stir opposition supporters, and leave the conspiracy theories to the UFO experts.

Unless this thread is just one big stir????

Kym Baby cries "give us your resourses"
boo bloody hoo mate You think it was given to us? The club worked hard for what we have idiot.
The last ten years you have been sucessful for North and what have you to show for it? hands out and struggling to get any support.
I don't want to see any club go BUT don't come the jealous "look at Essendon" then.
You blame the AFL, Luck and God knows what else for Essendons success.
If your Board is so good Where is the $$$$
Where is the support?
How does that song go ? oh yaeh "I'm Jealous"

You realy are a dimwit.

I have never once said that I am looking for a handout, merely congratulating our Board for being innovative because, my dearest genius, we do not have the supporter base, the resources or the facilites you have.

I am not asking for them, not whinging about our plight buit instead commending positive action from our Board to survive a tough environment.

As for your club working hard, well so it should with the base it has, and full credit to it.

But as for the concessions the Essendon Football Club received from the AFL, not to mention the perplexing number of decisions in favour of your club during 2000 including some puzzling tribunal outcomes, I am merely suggsting the AFL commission and therefore the AFL itself is overweight with Essendon personalities.

I woudln't expect you to see it that way, but dont accuse me of crying poor cousin.

I am merely proud of where our football club is given its relative uncertainty and admire the pluck of a wonderful organisation of loyal people who pour their heart and soul into the Kangaroos Football Club.

The fact that there is nothing to like about the Essendon Football Club is secondary.

Soft players who get the plaudits, dumb players who think their tough, the most eccentric coach in the history of the game, an administration that takes rules as being there to be altered due to some "friends in high places" - god why would I want to talk up your dispicable, capitalistic not to mention god awful nunch of supporters Football Club???????????

Of course this is shit stir! This is basically what khm says in the MUTUAL ADMIRATION SOCIETY thread.

Enough pissing in each others pockets and start having a crack (all in fun of course) at each other as opposition supporters are meant to do.

Argy Bargy I think is the term?

So much for the afterglow

while everybody admires the way north have gone about their buisness on and off the field im afraid to say time will run out for them with this following observation.
hawthorn were the power side of 80,s yet like nth their supporter base was thin.now 10-15yrs on hawthorn have a strong supporter base due to them being succesful in the 80,s the kids of the 80,s are now adults which in turn the support base has grown.
north is the undeniable side of the 90,s and it wont be until around 2010 before they can reap the rewards of their present day sucess.
10yrs down the track is way to far for a side like north i hope im wrong but we all know the afl,s views towards how many clubs in melb is needed.
as for essendon all vic clubs would be envy of the way they have spread there support base all over oz.
cheers!

Genius.

And I agree entirely - but one thing about our football club, and the bloke at the helm, is he has NEVER missed a finals series in all the time he has coached in the AFL.

How did Pagan manage to continually find great Under 19 players - was it the zone that previously had provided none - did he nurture many players who were repsonsible for Essendon's 93 flag in the 92 twos flag.

The man is a genius and dont expect, regardless of when Carey goes, Pagan not to be successful.

He is a survivor, as is our club, and the club will ride until then, even if there is some signifcant exodus with regard to playing football elsewhere.

I do believe we will survive - we may merge, we may relocate, but we will survive and the concept of being an Australian club is unique, sound and over time, with fair success since 1975 if you lok at it overall, I do believe we will find a way.

Optimism perhaps, but innovators we are and if there is a way, it will be found.

Dont expect a long drawn out death like Fitzroy's.

We will go down fighting, but we wont go down.

ok fair enough. We shall compare notes in 2010
Woops North won't be here except as the East Timor Kangas maybe??

You have had decades to improve your Base (as you put it) and what have we got not much.
A supporter base as big as the number of your brain cells and can't pay the players (mind you after seeing them in the finals you can't blame North for that one)
Good to see you admire mediocrity.

Perhaps you should look at the facts dill - you really dont like doing that.

2100 members in 1992.

25,500 in 2000.

Two premierships, seven preliminary finals.

One year's loss - profit every other year.

Increase in sponsorship comparitive to any woth club in the comp.

The most members per supporter ratio in the competition.

I would say that is far from mediocrity, and East Timor - if I thought you were intelligent enough to use sarcasm effectively I would have thought that were the case, but I am willing to bet all of North;s assets they wont be playing there.

It is just a gut feel I have.

Admiring your sheer idiocy, lack of vision and comfortableness with your own lifestyle and lack of application to change.

I noted you have not responded to the night football dig, with many saying that was the death knell of our club.

HUH

Cheers

"Kick the goal Kerry Good"

Maybe the post is just a stir, but if you want to claim that Fitzroy died as a weak, quivering mess, then you'll get a freakin' bite, my word.

The Roys have now transcended AFL football and now perform on a new level, within hearts and minds, more dangerous than ever before. There'd be some sore necks in the AFL, no doubt. On top of that, they are inherent in amateur (Fitzroy Reds) and various youth sides, where the crummy commercialism of AFL fails to settle.

They had a stint in the VFA/VFL, making Fitzroy currently the longest serving VFL team (1897-1989 and 1999-2000). It was almost a pleasure to see them resign from that league, now that the AFL malady is beginning slowly but methodically to taint it.

Perhaps, Fitzroy would have been better off merging with North than with Brisbane, but how flamin' moot is that? Same result for the Roys either way. Despite the end result, the Lions claws are spreading without falter.

Night football, bah. It may be successful, and I didn't hear it being wagered as a death-knell for its penultimate proponents (North - and YOU have the audacity to pooh-pooh Americanisation).

Oh yeah, that's another thing. My cheese and kisses is a seppo, which nationality you apparently bagged. And I'll let her fight that one with you. Lemme see, what's the score.
1) This North bloke hates the missus,
2) The missus doesn't even know, or care, who you are.

Tou-bloody-che.

Fact is that North supporters always seem to pretend that anything pre 90's didn't happen
(can't blame you there)
Memberships not bad (another 3 years you catch up to us.
Members per support base isn't so hard when you have bugger all supporters.
Profits....

Stuff it! everthing you admire in North you hate Essendon for the same?
Notice I don't bag players or coaches as I think if I don't play I am not good enough to bag them. Doesn't stop you though does it.

Night footy.great idea..bet you hate Anzac day though? Our idea.

Pagan..genius I agree (lucky Carey is there though)

East Timor.. OK ..maybe Southport Kangas is more realistic.

Blade,
Who is to say that KHM didn't play?
I have it on good authority that he may have - obviously under a different name though - and not necessarily for the club he so passionately supports today! There is some food for thought for you.
I guess that's the beauty of this site, you never really know who you are talking to. One things for sure, pays not to make outlandish statements just in case.

If KHM played I bet he was soft. Bit like his namesake.
After 2 premierships 7 PF blah blah blah what have we? A LOSS. Thank God for the AFL $$$'s though it would have been $850,000 worse. (and he bags the AFL hahahaha)
